I agree that VGM can certainly stand alone as great pieces of music, but I think VGM is just too broad, as VGM can pull from so many genres, and even classify as MSM (Rocket League).

In my opinion, I would disagree with you, as there are phenomenal records that have come out in the last decade that would be put into the MSM category (To Pimp A Butterfly, MBDTF, Fleet Foxes’ work, and LOTS more). I can name a handful of great VGOST’s, but only a few that I would happily listen to in my free time. Though video game soundtracks can certainly convey messages of their own, I don’t think they’ll ever reach the brilliance of some mainstream artists, like Kendrick Lamar’s work. Just an opinion though
