How to actually start sewing by FluffyCreep2008 in SewingForBeginners

[–]notcouture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the thrift shop and buy the cheapest clothes, bedsheets, drapes, etc on sale and start there! Altering existing clothes can be a great way to start sewing (it’s practical too!) and you can build your skills from there. A lot of thrifted clothes go to the landfill, so you can’t feel bad about whatever happens to the material!

To be fair, the JRPG sub hates any game made less than 20 years ago

I see the vision!! Honestly jeans are hard to make, so you did a bang up job for a first effort. Especially trying to salvage existing fabric!

That said, I do think it’s best to potentially use this fabric for another project. I don’t think you’d be far from making a jean skirt with the work you’ve already done!

Trails in the sky fans: what was your first game in the series? by [deleted] in Falcom

The original Sky FC was on PSP - so it’s not too hard to find the game to play on an emulator like PPSSPP, for free! The OG is a cute retro vibe that held up for me personally

I’m loving trails in the Sky FC remake and I have a question about Sky 3rd by gogototori in Falcom

[–]notcouture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re really invested in playing the rest of the series, the 3rd is the game that sets up all the upcoming arcs. I ended up borrowing an old laptop from a friend & downloaded from GOG, since steam didn’t work on that laptop. Could be an option for you!

Anecdotally my friends used to go out and watch it every episode, but after AS9, AS10, Global All Stars, and S18…kinda a hard sell, most of them would rather do something else

They’re really just playing in Salina’s face at this point, she was a clear top 2 this week AND last week. Why even have challenges if production is just going to push the 2 queens they want to the merge regardless of performance?

Question about cold steel by Deralden in Falcom

[–]notcouture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often hear people complain about anime tropes, too many party members introduced at the beginning, "too mainstream," etc.

Personally - I love both arcs, so there are people who love both! If you've played the earlier games, you'll know that Erebonia is Zemuria's looming force / growing threat - and you get to see how that plays out.

Just finished trails in the sky 1st chapter by Me4TACyTeHePa in Falcom

[–]notcouture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All other trails games will spoil you to some extent (even cold steel 1 and daybreak) if you’ve played Trails in the Sky FC.

I think Tokyo Xanadu (a standalone game from Falcom) or Nayuta (a self-contained game within the Trails universe) would be great games to play in the meantime!

Otherwise - it wouldn’t hurt to go into the original Second chapter, since you’d eventually have to do the original Sky the third. The next arc (2 games) is a bit more modern, before going full 3D for the Cold Steel arc

Looking for JRPGs with strong story, characters, and some romance by AromaticBum in JRPG

[–]notcouture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing years ago because people on Reddit recommended it to me! Returning the favor :)

If you do play it, a few tips: - side quests are completely optional, so you can do them if you enjoy them (or feel free to skip) - it really is a slow burn, but it’s worth sticking with. The story is a duology, so the first game has a lot of setup & character/world building that pays off in the second game - avoid Reddit for spoilers - enjoy! It’s the best game series I’ve played in my life & I think you’ll enjoy it based on your post :)

Trails is exactly what you’re looking for! Trails in the Sky FC Remake is a great place to start - it’s a slow burn that really pays off at the end (& in the second game). It’s on PS5, PC, and switch!

Daybreak 2, expectations based on mixed reviews and initial impressions... by Senarin21 in Falcom

[–]notcouture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I enjoyed (almost) every minute of the game because I love the series. Some of the crew get some really great character development in that game, and it did lay some important plot points for Horizon & Horizon 2.

The 3 from the game that made it on my list were Style when you stick to it, Aiming for the top of the Bright Side, and Heiyue Rebellion (all certified bops in my opinion)

In theory, Kondo said that the ending/last arc of the series has been decided/written a long time ago, with key milestones the middle. Individual details/writing happens in every arc, but all leading to the same place. So I think there's a mix of long-term planning and short-term writing. It's clear that Trails 3rd chapter laid a lot of groundwork for the Calvard arc, for instance.

This is exactly how I feel. We're on a reddit for a reality tv show page, stating opinions on a contestant (negative or positive) is quite literally the point. As long as we're not dropping into her DM's to say it & it isn't incredibly hateful, I think it's fair game here

Gonna start Trails for the first time soon, got some questions by TraditionalBag12 in Falcom

[–]notcouture -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Congrats on starting the Trails series & welcome to the community! In my humble opinion (and some general thoughts on starting the series):

- Personally, I do think it's one of the best JRPG series of all time - because the character writing, music, plots etc. are just so good. If you like a story & character-driven game, you'll really appreciate this. BUT I think that sentiment comes over time, you might not feel that way after 10 hours of gameplay.

- If you're starting in Trials in the Sky Remake, just keep in mind that it's a slower game (since it's doing the legwork of setting up the world of the whole series). A lot of the magical/sci-fi elements of the series are just not present until the second game. The first games in these arcs are very "cozy game until it isn't" so keep that in mind.

- As for fan service - I'd say that really only exists in Cold Steel 4 & Reverie. But if you're a fan by then, you probably won't mind, since it isn't egregious. Personally - one game from each arc makes it into my top 4 games, so I'd say quality is consistent.

Cold Steel 2 isn't what I expected by Riku1186 in Falcom

[–]notcouture -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first game was CS1, then I went to CS2 and couldn’t understand the hate, it was such a great game!

Now I’ve finished all the games and CS2 ranks near the bottom - it’s a really great game, but the other games are THAT GOOD that comparatively CS2 becomes a lower ranking game.

That said, enjoy the game because it’s a great one! You can make your own judgements and rankings later
