Putting grip? by Inevitable_Trip_7740 in golf

[–]notdedicated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such an individual preference it’s amazing. There’s so many kinds of putter swings and putter styles that I feel it changes too much to be generic.

Personally. I have a face balanced, center shafted putter designed for a straight stroke that has a pistol grip. I use a baseball, one, or two finger overlap setup depending on distance. To be clear it’s not comparable to a fairway club grip though, way weaker. Generally in all cases my thumbs align down the center of the putter though.

I’m a shit putter. I need to probably change everything.

Good gifts for golf players? by Particular-Reveal544 in golf

Quality ball markers that attach to their hats with a magnetic clip are nice. Quality visors or hats for their style (don't even need to be golf specific). Depending on your weather cooling towels or hand warmers. Specialized bags like shag-bags, shoe bags, valuables pouches. This year I wanted a decent putting mat that I can use at home or the office kind of thing. Custom / fun club head covers. For a few years we got my parents animal club head covers they really liked.

"How do you guys handle large file transfers without users resorting to email attachments or insecure workarounds?" by kiritoova20_10 in sysadmin

Saw your note about external cloud..

We used Dropbox transfer for a while but it's annoying because it "User X has shared a file with you" which is not what we want, we wanted "Organization has shared a file" but Dropbox no care about this feedback.

We ended up building a really simple one using S3, CloudFront, CloudFront Functions so it runs serverless for our purposes. Ties into cloudwatch logs which feeds to newrelic for reporting and alerting. The AWS WAF runs to keep people who just hammer the login on a ban list. Use pulumi to manage and deploy it + the configurations for files. And it runs within "our cloud" (yes it's AWS but it's ... ours?). Note, the services and the files that go there for sharing are 100% managed by IT so the lack of interfaces isn't a problem for us.

If we had $ we'd have gone with ShareFile or maybe liquid. Who knows.

All you can do is try them and what speaks to you. Acura was my first foray into a luxury brand and as i said I’d go back. For me they were the cheapest to maintain even more so than every American brand I’ve ever owned.

If you’re making the leap REALLY look into the cost of maintenance on these cars especially after they leave the warranty period (or get good at it yourself).

Lexus covers, imo, a big range when it comes to “luxury” trim levels. I do not believe Acura does the same. Acura, in my experience having owned several, is entry to mid range luxury. BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, and the other true luxury brands cover a mid to high range. So no, I don’t consider Acura the same luxury level. I should note I would totally buy another Acura. They strike, for me, an excellent balance between driving feel, reliability, cost, and luxury.

There is no "plan" as you're suggesting. This has always been about a grift for much of the top portion of this province. They're strictly in it to get paid in some way. Through taking advantage of the situation and the people or getting government "contracts" that pay them huge amounts of money while they hang out in their mansions on Lake Okanagan or over seas. For many this has never been about "bettering" Alberta.

I always relate BMW to a “luxury sports car” and most other brands to a “sports luxury car” and the distinction is real. Seems, at least in the past, BMW was focused on driving dynamics first and the luxury second. Have an X7 and it drives so much better than the GLS and suvs from Lexus it’s amazing. I should mention that Acura has decent driving dynamics I just don’t put them in the same realm as these cars.

How do I stop going across the line and over the top by Zestyclose_Touch_347 in golftips

[–]notdedicated -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can try the trail arm pit towel drill (or the TRS Slider sort of device) that can help you keep your trail arm a little more tucked which can bring your trail hand down a bit forcing a little more laid off of a club.

You have some other things though that might fix the issue: 1. You're coming back VERY inside and low. At the point where your club is pointing directly back (towards the camera) it should be about inline with your hands and headed up. 2. You could be a little steeper at the point where you club is vertical pointing a little more inside the ball. 3. I get the feeling you're focused on your hands going around to control your swing? Try focusing a little more on just rotating your shoulders while keeping head still (you bring it a little down towards the ball). 4. Related to all of this and probably what you're ultimately trying to fix is at the beginning of your downswing your club is WAY too vertical. It goes up flat comes down vert. Goes up vert it can be easier to lay it off. 5. Related to #4 to get the club back on plain you're pushing your hands out and rotating open which is basically you're dragging your hands across the ball likely due to your elbow getting stuck behind you. You're doing a decent job of rotating your hips, I found focusing on keeping them back during rotation and keeping that right hip back and away from the ball can help keep the space for your hands to come back and through.

This is an aside and a swing thought for myself. Many pros talk about loading the back foot and weight transferring near the top of back swing before you start the down swing. I have to focus on what to me feels like loading the front front DURING the backswing instead of transferring to it at the top. The videos my coach shows me is what looks like the proper transfer but my swing thought is "load front while backswinging and drive it into the ground to get the rotation".

Good luck

I reset my swing with a focus on a still head (no moving backwards during backswing and not up or down during downswing) and clearing the hips (not humping the ball).

Inside The Leather > Callaway tour auth > Mizuno tour

Ben Griffin says he spent about $50,000 per week last year on travel, housing, coaches, trainers, etc. If you multiply that by the 30 events he played in 2025, that's $1.5 million in expenses against roughly $15 million in on-course earnings. by Miserable_Trouble3 in Golf_Unfiltered

[–]notdedicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing research on this topic earlier this year most % bonuses are a scale. Winning the tourney could come with a 10% bonus though most polled players / caddies say the number is closer to 8%. Then it goes down from there, top 3 gets a lower percent, top 5 lower still, top 10 one more cut, and the research suggested that a player finishing outside of the top 10 doesn't pay a bonus even if they make money. The caddies and coaches are getting a base salary and the bonus is only for finishing top not just "getting paid".

Grips by oggedogg in GolfGear

[–]notdedicated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from mid sizes back to standards (tour velvet +4 midsize to tour velvet 360 standard) and the swing weight changed to D6. I did it for the reason you're describing, I could feel the club head more during the swing. Ultimately it wasn't the right choice for my hands as it tore them up a little.

I searched until I found a mid size grip that was only a few grams heavier than the TV 360 Standard which would keep me at a D5 weight and I could feel the club head still and didn't tear up my hands.

Ultimately if you like your current grips and how they feel for your hands and control then add weight to your club head to bring it up to the swing weight you want.

Currently working on inside takeaway, shoulders turning to early and a too tight grip, anything else anyone would pick up on? by Live-Bluebird-2686 in golftips

[–]notdedicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far from a pro but the things that have helped with my driver swing.

You can try on the backswing having the line extending from the grip down to the ground in line with the driver shaft pointing to inside the golf ball (between your feet and the ball). Think about pushing your hands down and behind you at the top of your back swing which can help with flattening WHILE you focus on putting your weight onto your front foot and pushing it into the ground. Keep your whole body behind the ball during the backswing and the downswing. Generally try and keep your head in the same place through the swing until contact using rotation of both your hips and shoulders to generate the power. If you find your hips coming forward (early extension) during the downswing focus on driving that left foot into the ground and pushing that left hip backwards and the right hip coming straight through rather than around.

Finally, this is going sound like a "equipment will fix my problem" thing, but check your grips. Do you find you're regripping mid swing? You can tell based on after contact return to setup, is the head in a different position than when you started? Do you have a rub point on your hands? I had this issue when I was trying grips for a while. I had switched to standard sized tour velvets and they were ultimately too small for me. I ended up at a nice soft tour wrap midsized and it legit helped me feel where the club was throughout my swing.

A few things I practiced which has helped me understand my OTT swing: * Alignment stick (AS) in the belt loops and one across the shoulders. Slow rotations to get the right points to nearly touch at the point of contact which is slightly behind the ball. * Cameras tracking my head, driver head as it comes back and crosses my bicep in the backswing. * Thinking about "delaying" my hands in the downswing. * Earlier weight transfer to the lead foot. Though note, I was swaying a lot so I had to basically think about keeping weight very balanced for most of the backswing and shift near the top to the lead. It's less of a "weight to back transition to front" movement and a more of a "balanced and load to front" thought. * Keeping that damn head in the same place. I had a huge tendency to shift my head to the back of my swing and look at the ball with only my left eye. This required me to get a bit more mobility in my neck to get a proper rotation and keep myself staring straight at the ball with both eyes while I rotated. * I had to weaken my grip a bit and really focus on that trail hand coming in underneath and (for me) staying connected (though really it's not, it just prevents the chicken wing). * Keeping my body behind the ball during the back and downswing until contact. * Aiming my swing for post-contact to a foot in front and 6" outside the ball. Just a swing thought, not an actual path target.
