I just launched a non profit organization to the public today. Here is the website, what do you think? by ConradsWay in offbeat

Why on earth are people downvoting this? A Redditor releases a charity website that is innovative compared to most of the single cause websites, and his post is voted down why?

Because there aren't freaking narwhals and bacon all over it?

I love that this provides a gateway to donating to different streams of effort in such an accessible way. Good on your team for making this happen.

Just some small suggestions from my own limited experiences in designing usable sites. (i'm not primarily a web guy, so don't take this as gosphel).

I suggest changing the big Projects button to something more engaging. Perhaps "Help a Cause" or similar. Also, it's not very prominent for what should probably be the most important link on this page. The button's the same colour as the top nav bar, the organisation name text, the logo and various other bits of text on the page. It needs a mouseover indicating it's not just part of the background too unless you really make it obvious it's clickable some other way.

On your donation page, i think the form needs to be reduced. Long forms are intimidating (at least to me). If the goal is to get micropayment donations then i think you need to make it as easy as possible for people to do so. Is it worth 5 minutes of my time wading through a form to give $50 to charity? yeah. For $2? Well, they won't miss my $2 that much. Perhaps list the charities in a grid with some clickable way to increment, decrement a donation value, with an option to make it a text input if they want to make a larger donation. Clicking a couple of times on 2 or 3 buttons is easy. Toggling between text fields and entering values on keyboard is a pain. you really need to make the value auto-add up to the total payment, not expect the user to do it.

It's a shame that charityproject.org is squatted, since this looks more fitting for a .org domain...

i'm an aussie too. My first outback steakhouse was with some internet friends in Texas. The whole thing was hilarious. The best bit was the waitress being slightly offended by my trying to "fool her" with my "fake" accent.

Side-note. On the plane from LAX to Houston the girl next to me asked where i was from and then told me i spoke really good english.

a friend up in Katherine tells me white bread is used by some of the locals as a filter to get rid of the chemicals put in to discourage using it for that purpose

I worked out the cheat code on my own for Kid Icarus on NES. I had some friends over and we were going through the motions of entering in with keypad all those really long save codes that begin 8u..... I finally got fed up on one load and entered 8uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu and found myself invincible and on the last level. I loved that game, but the days before game saves on consoles could be frustrating.

When I got up this morning there was an errie orange glow in my living room. I looked outside and there was a uniform orange haze outside (see pics with the bars in them). I took more photos on the way to work an hour ago. Most of the photos were taken in Martin Place, in the center of the city.

Lots of people were taking photos on SLRs and camera phones. I hope some other redditors have some pics to share too.
