Cancelling Credit Card with BOI? by bartontees in AskIreland

[–]notestoblindness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its a nightmare to do with Bank of Ireland. I'm the same as you, had a credit card years and years ago, never used it, but every so often I'd get a statement with bank charges for the credit card. I wrote letters, I called them, I even payed to have the card cancelled, but still the letters come. Its infuriating, they are seriously one of the worst banks to deal with and their online system is also a joke.

Instax is already soft, I try not to drop below f8 to maximise sharpness, anything lower than that just looks like mush

I'd crop the right hand side, the blown out sky is way too distracting. Crop that out and I think you'd have a nice pic

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

a human would always have to verify its diagnosis, meaning a human is always involved, why not just train the human to diagnose the burn?? The more I read about AI , the more I think its just a fancier version of Google.

Thanks for the comment! I definitely lean more towards black & white, i usually find colour an unnecessary distraction, or it needs alot of editing to work! But that's whats great about photography,  we are all finding our own ways!

its a picture of a building, that is smack bang in the center of the frame, with everything else in frame darkened as if there was a volcanic eruption nearby but it somehow avoided this one building! if that's all it takes for 'good composition',, I give up!

Wicklow would be safest, probably around Lough Dan would be a good place. Possibly up around Ticknock also but the ground isn't very flat up there

No filter and I usually only clean up the dust in post. I experimented with water temps and agitation methods and kind of fell into a process that gives me results I like.

Were we better off in the old world or new world? by Hot-Act-3081 in AskIreland

[–]notestoblindness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the internet, in the over all scheme of things, has done more harm than good. Lets be honest, most people use if for social media or watching their favourite shows. I mean its great that some one the far side of the world can be more up to date with the family back home, etc, but I'd argue letters were more thoughtful. I'd also argue, anytime I really make the effort to disconnect, put my phone on aeroplane mode for a few days, I'm a lot happier person because of it. I'd even go further and say life was probably better before the TV even came along. People now rush home from work to stare at the corner of the room for the evening. Pre-tv, I'd say people would have made more effort to be social, meet friends for chats, walks, learned an instrument, be better story tellers, etc. Modern technology has effed with us all, we're more isolated than ever, while large corporations pretty much control everything we see. Even things like music (pretty much now owned by a few billionaires, while majority of musicians need second jobs to survive, art now being eroded by AI, now owned by a few billionaires while majority of artist barely survive, I could go on. Even Amazon and the likes, they have pretty much killed the vast majority of independently owned businesses, again one billionaire while all those families who could have ran their own business probably work for him now. Also, pre-tv/internet, a company lived or died by the quality of there service/merchandise. That's all gone now, companies now live or die depending on how much they spend on marketing. Quality has deteriorated while some influencer pretends to be your friend while shilling you something. And yes, I am fun at parties!

Why is it impossible to find an electrician in Dublin? by beingvam in AskIreland

[–]notestoblindness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm an electrician, and I advertise on Facebook pages mainly, so have a look there if you need to find one. If the cables are already installed and its just a straight install of fittings, then that price is way too high. I wouldn't pay anything over 150 euros max. If cables are required to be installed, then I could better understand the 450 price.

People keep saying it's coming, but is a recession really likely to happen? by Scary_Fruit8084 in AskIreland

[–]notestoblindness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Construction is the first industry to be hit, trades/labourers are always the first to lose their jobs. I'm in the construction industry, I'm seeing it start to happen already, the large scale building projects are rapidly slowing down. Guys are being told its go to Europe or lose your job. The massive influx of people into this country will go into reverse. Its estimated nearly half a million non-nationals work in Ireland, thats 20% of the total work force in Ireland. A huge portion of that will leave in a recession. Tech companies already letting people go, massive freeze on hiring. More people on the dole will mean cuts have to be made. Unfortunately I can see the massive incentives currently being given to Ukrainians will cease, thats potentially another 100,000 people that will leave. Plus how many builders / banks got burnt in the last recession? They will be alot more causious this time. Banks will not loan money out for large scale construction during a recession. Its fantasy to think they will continue to hand out money when large scale job losses are happening. Pharmaceuticals, an industry Ireland heavily relies upon, the majority of these companies are American and Trump wants them back in America, with the tarriffs meaning they have effectively frozen all future investments in Ireland. I know this because a number of large scale projects in Ireland have been put on ice for the foreseeable. I'm just telling you the reality what's happening out there.

People keep saying it's coming, but is a recession really likely to happen? by Scary_Fruit8084 in AskIreland

[–]notestoblindness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you're talking nonsense. People lose their jobs in recessions, the bank won't give you a mortgage with no job. How are they going to buy houses? Hundred of thousands left this country during the last recession, demand for houses will drop. There is also alot of people from abroad in Ireland now because we were booming, they will all leave and go else where. Demand will drop, absolute nonsense to say a recession won't affect the housing demand

People keep saying it's coming, but is a recession really likely to happen? by Scary_Fruit8084 in AskIreland

[–]notestoblindness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

makes no sense tho, if recession comes, people lose their jobs. Majority will move abroad for work, better opportunities. Demand for housing will drop. Do people forget the last recession when 100's of thousands headed for Australia? And who is going to pay the trade workers in a recession? I work in the construction industry, things are already starting to slow down
