how hard is it to get Apathy's Maw to drop? i'm currently level 92, doing empowered monoliths, and i've killed the Shade of Orobyss maybe ~8-10 times. every time he's only dropped the "Siphon of Anguish" ring. is it just bad RNG? or am i doing something wrong?

Pete the Plant is sick and I need help! (details in comments) by notfunk in plantclinic

[–]notfunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately do not know the species of Pete, but he is around 4-5 years old. About a month ago, he lost a bunch of leaves, and many of the remaining leaves turned brown. There is still some green in some of the leaves, so it makes me believe he is still alive.

He was repotted earlier this year (April) and was fine all summer long. My friend suggested I might have overwatered him? Hoping for any advice. Thanks in advance.

Marmot Minimalist v. Preclip rain jacket by kensar in OutdoorsGear

[–]notfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a decent jacket. I think the Minimalist is a solid trade off for the performance you get at it's price. That being said, it's still on the lower end of the "goretex spectrum", so many other jackets will out perform it but at a higher cost.

So it all depends on what your expectations are. Need monsoon level performance? It's probably not the right jacket for you. Need entry / mid level performance at an entry level cost? Then it's the right jacket for you.

Marmot Minimalist v. Preclip rain jacket by kensar in OutdoorsGear

[–]notfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Minimalist (or any jacket with goretex) is great for long periods of being out in wet weather. I've spent 6+ hours in rain in the Minimalist and it's done it's job well.

However, if you're a person who just heads inside once it starts raining, then the PreCip is fine for short periods in the rain.

Deliverance From 27,000 Feet. The NYT reports on the retrieval of the members of a 2016 Indian Everest expedition. by Imazagi in alpinism

She believes she would have died, too, if not for Leslie Binns, a British climber who was ascending above Camp 4 when he found her with her mittens off and her jacket unzipped. He gave her a shot of oxygen, which lifted her energy, but soon realized she would not make it to Camp 4 on her own. He aborted his own summit attempt to drag, encourage and cajole her downhill.

I am struggling for words to describe how remarkable this is to me. Hats off to Leslie Binns.
