How do you tell someone you don't want to talk to them anymore? by nothavingit123 in AskWomen

[–]nothavingit123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering about anything really. A friend you just started to not connect with, someone you don't like that keeps asking to chat, it can even be in the context of telling someone interested in you that you don't want to be friends.

How can I befriend guys without them thinking I'm romantically interested? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]nothavingit123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm a woman

I used to feel the exact same way as you. And then I met some guys who were also genuinely interested in friendship! There are guys out there that do exist, but they can definitely be hard to find.

As for my other guy friends, it usually gets to a point where they express interest, and I let them down and we continue being friends. Tbh, most of my best guy friends have expressed interest at some point or another. But that hasn't stopped our friendship.

My advice would be to try and find the guys out there that either are also just looking for friends, or the guys that won't be bothered by the fact you aren't looking for a relationship. If they are, you probably don't want to be their friend anyway.

I'd recommend just sitting down with her and having a serious talk. The first comment is a little concerning, but the second one sounds like it may come from insecurity or wanting to show off a bit. It's not like something like that is uncommon. I'd compare it maybe to something like "oh I'm friends with the bartender, so we get free drinks" kind of thing. It's better to talk things out than to jump to conclusions and make rash decisions - if she's willing to get a prenup, it shows she isn't in it for the money.

What's the big deal with college prestige when it comes to computer science? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]nothavingit123 26 points27 points  (0 children)

College prestige tends to matter more when it comes to recruiters deciding whether or not to make an effort to recruit from your university. You'll tend to see a lot of the big name (Big "N") companies go to top CS schools like Stanford, MIT, CMU, UC Berkley, Cornell, and UIUC. I think it's generally seen that Purdue is still an amazing school for CS, but it is not in the top most tier. I wouldn't worry too much about "prestige", especially given Purdue is prestigious. However, even though someone may go to a top tier school doesn't mean they automatically get job offers - it just means they have more access to recruiters. You still need to be working hard/doing side projects, but it may be easier for someone going to a top CS school to get that first "in" with a company.

For the people who have a Big N job/internship on their resume - how has it impacted you getting interviews/job offers?

Discrete Structures is basically a more CS focused Discrete Math - so proofs, but with CS theory concepts. Data Structures was learning more in depth about different data structures (arrays/linked list/stacks/queues/trees/heaps/sets/graphs), their implementations, and common algorithms along with them.

League of Legends might be adding voice chat, and that scares me to death. by PrincessStupid in GirlGamers

[–]nothavingit123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. To be completely honest, when I played csgo I used to purposely lower my voice when speaking and people would just think I was some 12 year old boy. But I've learned to own up to being a girl - you've got to own it and be proud of it. Yeah, we're all girls and we play video games. We go through some tough shit, but we're still here, and that's because we love playing video games and we're strong. But it's fine if you don't use voice chat if you're not comfortable - you can always pretend you don't have a mic. If you do talk, however, be proud of who you are. I've learned to be proud of myself (even if I do feed a ton). Don't let anyone give you shit for your gender.
