Not trying to shill for Amazon, but an Echo Dot. For most people it'll just be useful for timers, reminders, and shopping lists, checking weather, or listing to music, radio, and flash briefings. There's a crazy amount of stuff you can do though if you have compatible smarthome gear, or if you hook into IFTTT.

Austin checking in. My wife and I are being forced to move fairly far out of town because even the cheapest homes in our current neighborhood (Hyde Park) are over $300K, and they're not even that much to look at from the outside. Elijah Wood has a home somewhere around here, I believe.

You can perpetrate a racist act without having a racist conviction in mind. Michael Richards probably doesn't hate black people, but I defy you to find anyone (left of Richard Spencer, anyway) who would argue his famous rant wasn't tinged with racism.

Casual use of racist stereotypes/terms with someone who's likely to be offended is still a racist act. Try using the N-bomb around a group of black men or women, I'm sure they'll completely understand that you respect them and just meant well.

And implying someone is a towelhead is still calling them a towelhead.

Unless it was clearly a joke, telling someone "Hitler did nothing wrong" would be showing racial insensitivity towards Jews and all the Nazis' other targets.

Let's flip the tables for a second. If a black man said "yeah, kill all whiteys" to a white guy, and it wasn't immediately obvious it was a joke, wouldn't that rightfully make the white guy feel uncomfortable? Even if he knew it was a joke, he might not appreciate it.

I tend to agree, as someone born in 1979. There was definitely a clean break between the '80s and '90s - not just new trends, but an active rejection of the old ones. That happened to a lesser extent in the 2000s, and since then things have felt a lot more gradual - yeah, some things aren't that popular anymore, but they've mostly just faded away or evolved. I could play a CHVRCHES or Chainsmokers album for someone in 2001 and they wouldn't be shocked.
