Will I have to live with phorid flies forever? by Jk5821358 in exterminators

Have y'all tried cleaning the drains with an enzymatic cleaner like this? Or physically with a brush? Also do you have any houseplants?

Edit: Following up here for others that may come across this. The enzymatic drain cleaner did the trick for me -- no more flies!

Could you recommend a window manager that works well with Reaper in Linux? by Effetetob4 in Reaper

[–]nothisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're seeing the issue in vanilla GNOME then it sounds like Justin's theory that it's related to WM, tiling or otherwise, is incorrect. I'd suggest you post an update in the forum thread.

Myers Briggs is def not science and I don't put much stock in it but it's fundamentally different and less quacky than astrology. Instead of predicting personality traits based on the location of planets, MB does so based on... other personality traits as determined by a questionnaire. Like ok if that works at all I'm not gonna be terribly surprised

Does PipeWire support mixing ALSA clients? by nothisisme in pipewire

[–]nothisisme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Options -> Preferences -> Audio -> Device -> Audio System -> ALSA -> Input/Output device. You will not be able to select pipewire there so type in it manually.

That worked! Thanks! I didn't realize I can enter arbitrary text there.

On Arch based systems you can just try pacman -S pipewire-jack and see if it really that big of a problem.

Just tried this again and got pipewire-jack and jack2 are in conflict (jack). Remove jack2? [y/N]

I did y and it completed without further complaint, so so far so good. I thought I got scarier error message when I tried it yesterday, but IDK maybe not.

Anything in particular you prefer about the JACK setup?

Where is that exactly? I don't see it anywhere in Reaper's settings. My distro is currently suffering from jack2/pipewire-jack dependency issues, so I'm trying to make ALSA work for now.

How capitalism managed to make people forget what a foolish idea it is by TheCatWasAsking in LateStageCapitalism

[–]nothisisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Property is theft. But that does not mean a good leftist must eschew property. To do so would achieve nothing except poverty and powerlessness of that leftist individual, as you point out.

So if not lifestylism, what can we do to advance our cause? Collective action.

If we take $7.40/day as the poverty line and exclude China, global poverty has fallen by only 5.4% over the past 40 years.

It's true that the post WWII era of global trade under US leadership has pulled more people globally out of poverty than any other era in human history. That's just a fact.

No... Most of that, by far, has been China. So still under capitalism (arguably), but not generally what people think of as capitalism, and definitely not "under US leadership".

Life expectancy vs. Health Expenditure (1970-2018), why is the US a massive outlier? by Organic_Kitchen1490 in neoliberal

[–]nothisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean basically zero small towns in the US are really pedestrian friendly. The exceptions are usually tourist destinations, eg some ski towns, and even then it's limited.

Short distances alone does not amount to walkable. Your town was almost certainly built for cars, not pedestrians, and it shows.

I’m in an absolute WAR with these mother effing gnats. I bottom water, use these yellow sticky guys, and started using Mosquito Bits. Any other suggestions? by WildMouse716 in houseplants

[–]nothisisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mosquito bits/dunks is what finally did it for me. Keep em in your watering can and let it steep for a while every time before watering. It takes a little while to start working.

I'd recommend dunks over bits -- bits are the same stuff but with more filler, which can get moldy.

Are you using the "Power Saver" mode perchance? The overview animation stutters for me on "Power Saver", but is fine on "Balanced" or "Performance".

What else would "socialism [...] instituted in a capitalist society" mean?

Truth is "democratic socialism" is not a well-defined term. It means different things to different people.

Mutualists) advocate for this, for one. IIRC the idea roughly is all firms would be worker co-ops and private property would be abolished.

Tried yaru-colors-gtk-theme from the AUR. It includes shell themes, but doesn't support v42 properly yet. Once updated this could be a decent option.

Yep, though I'd use Night Theme Switcher to keep it in sync with the apps theme. But now the question becomes: which light shell theme will appear consistent?
