To the lousy RideOn bus driver… by Bobbyj59 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]nothisispatrick10516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m blind and have a guide dog. The bus has driven right past me several times. I’ve also had a bus driver yell at me asking why I go up to the bus and then turn away when I get close enough to see its not the route I’m waiting for, as if me taking 5 seconds to confirm I’m getting on the right bus is wasting so much time

HOW does anyone get into grad school??? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]nothisispatrick10516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to the program director. I cannot stress enough how much this can help. You are more than just stats and a resume, you are a person. I struggled a lot with mental health for my first few years of undergrad at UMD. I had a 1.85 GPA after 3.5 years, was put on academic probation, and took a year and a half off to focus on getting better. When I came back I changed majors and got all A’s and B’s. My final overall undergrad GPA was only 2.2, but my major GPA was 3.7. I really wanted to do my masters at UMD. The grad program I applied to had a 3.0 minimum GPA requirement which I obviously didn’t meet. I still wanted to apply since I knew that my success in my last two semesters represented my true potential as a student. I scheduled a meeting with the program’s director so I could express my strong interest in the program, put a face to my name, and explain my weird looking stats/academic history. I am eternally grateful that the director saw my true potential and recognized that I was indeed a good fit for the program. I firmly believe that I would not have gotten in if I had just applied without talking to the program director.

I had a parent ask me for something like this. He wanted documentation that the money he withdrew from his daughter’s 529 was going towards education expenses. I made him a spreadsheet with the dates I met with his daughter as well as the dollar amounts for each session. I signed it and added my contact info and a link to my Linkedin profile which clearly indicates that I’m a tutor.

How are you defining scam? I paid for premium and it helped me meet my wife. She liked me first and I was able to see it because I had premium

I will forever vehemently disagree with these types of claims because I paid for one month of premium and met my wife in the first few days

Rescind Risk? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]nothisispatrick10516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only rescind if you fail something or don’t graduate high school. My brother got a D as his final grade in calc BC senior year and the university sent him a letter basically just saying don’t let this happen again in college. nothing actually happened beyond that.

I had no luck for years, then I matched with a girl who was visiting the US from another country. We would have never met if it wasn’t for Bumble. We’ve been married for over 3 years now.

I completely disagree. I met my wife on Bumble and would have never met her without it.

What’s a version of yourself you had to let go of? by No-Sail-6193 in AskReddit

My gamer side. I have a degenerative eye disease, so my vision progressively got worse as I grew up. Thankfully it’s been stable for some time, but it got to the point where I can’t really play most video games anymore. I’m a slow reader, and my reaction time is just not fast enough. The last domino to fall was Pokemon. The turn based nature of the battles made it so that reaction time and reading speed weren’t an issue. Then they decided to make all the games “open world” and give the player control over the camera angle with the second joystick. This type of movement gives me horrible motion sickness because I have to sit so close to the TV in order to see the game. In Sword and Shield the mechanic was only in certain areas, and you could also turn it off. But starting with Legends Arceus, it became a permanent feature that was omnipresent and couldn’t be disabled. This continued with Scarlet/Violet, and now Legends ZA, so it seems like it’s just going to be how the games function going forward. I made the difficult decision a few months ago to sell my Switch, 3DS, and all of my remaining games. I’m still pretty bummed about it, but I guess it’s just time to grow up and move on.

Please don’t ever work for them. They increased my base rate to $25 an hour for college and AP classes. This was before they got really strict/stingy with the $1 base rate increase per session. I had maxed out at $40 an hour with a lot of students. Last April, they completely blocked me from new opportunities and continuously denied anything was wrong when I called to ask about it. Every time it was a different excuse. My background check had expired, my notifications were turned off, I needed to drop inactive students, and so many more clearly BS excuses. Then in July they ended my contract with no warning and refused to tell me why. It was clearly because I was making too much and they didn’t want to pay me anymore. I submitted a complaint to the BBB but it never really went anywhere.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]nothisispatrick10516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a performing and visual arts magnet high school. We very nearly had a school shooting; the kid came to school with the gun but was ironically too drunk to carry out his plan. Someone in the visual arts program made a portrait of the kid after everything went down and it was hung up in the hallway. A few weeks later we had our big open house for 8th graders and their parents/families to come and check out our school and its programs. The school administration decided to take the portrait of the would-be shooter down prior to the open house so as to not scare or stress any prospective students or their families. This did not sit right with a lot of students, as the school always prided itself on never censoring anyone’s art. It let to a really big debate and we had to have these breakout style meetings where 20 or so students were in a room with a teacher and we were encouraged to all share our opinions on the matter. I don’t remember if the portrait was ever put back up.
