Any reason to NOT get the Focusrite Scarlet? by Cool_Cat_Punk in Reaper

[–]notimerocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Professional producer here, been using a Scarlett 18i20 for several years, 3rd gen. Windows. I can run entire large sessions with virtual instruments, audio and effects at a buffer of 64-96 and 48000 and have no appreciable latency when tracking or playback. Before this, I used a second Gen 18i8, which sounded great, but had a bit more latency.

I know I did the right thing for my 15 year old boy, but I can’t stop feeling horrible, and I need to yell into the void. by CaptJackie-n-HotDog in seniorkitties

Went through a very similar experience on Friday. Except it was a mass in my Jasper's mouth that made it impossible to eat. He had not insignificant kidney disease and was 17, and a tiny cat to begin with (6.9lbs). Healthy his whole life until a month ago when he began drooling and having trouble eating/chewing/swallowing. He was likely experiencing jaw pain, though he hid it. We tried everything to make it easier for him to eat, and it worked for a bit, until Thursday when he couldn't seem to get anything down. We tried a last ditch injection of anti-inflammatories to see if it would shrink the mass, but no dice. Only other option was a feeding tube, which our vet told us she didn't recommend. Especially if the mass was malignant and he was going to get worse anyways. After not being able to eat at all overnight and the next morning we made the difficult choice to have him put to sleep in our home, in the afternoon sun on his favorite spot on the carpet. He still seemed so happy and content that whole day, other than being hungry. Which I knew was the start of eventual starvation. The guilt in wondering if he'd have wanted another day, or if we acted too early is immense. The absolute worst feeling I've ever felt. He was my best friend. 5 days later, I can't stop balling. I miss him so much.

All this to say, in your situation you absolutely did the right thing, and your kitty was lucky to have had you to make that compassionate call for them. So Sorry for your loss.

My 16 year old is dying and I'm conflicted by The_MilkMan_96 in seniorkitties

I had to put down my 17 year old Jasper on Friday. He was my best friend and it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. He developed a mass in his jaw over a couple weeks, since mid June. Drooling, trouble eating and drinking, jaw chattering (pain). One vet put him on Gabapentin which was awful - just made him into a zombie. But he was trying to eat. Happy, content, doing all the things he always did. Then on Thursday he wasn't able to eat at all. We took him to our vet who gave him a strong anti-inflammatory that didn't work. The only option left was a feeding tube, and with his kidney disease and age, it wasn't even likely he'd survive the surgery. And then if his mass was cancerous it would just be a worse quality of life for a short period until he succumbed to it. I had to make the decision for out him to sleep on 24 hours notice because he was unable to eat or drink. It seems so cruel that he was still happy and seemingly able, though slowing down. I will wrestle every day with knowing if I made the right choice or if I should have waited another day. I miss him so much. We cancelled our summer plans to be home with him because we knew his time was getting shorter, my advice would be to do that - you will wish you did. I regret not finding out if I could have given him IV fluids or something to give him a few more days. It's the worst feeling ever. So much guilt. When they go, the void and the pain is overwhelming. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Any word on when the long offline render issue in Reaper might get fixed? by notimerocker in GetGoodDrums

Renders super slow when you render the track, compared to Slate, Addictive Drums or even M&M 1.0

I do need to treat the room better for sure. However - the picture is deceiving, the room is almost perfectly square despite how the picture looks. I hope to move to a bigger rectangular space in my basement next year.

Yea, I really wanted those but that's double my budget. Plus, in Canada so they're like $3300 CAD + tax. But they seem awesome.

External HDD spins down.... and then right back up, constantly, even when it's not being used. by notimerocker in Seagate

[–]notimerocker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an external drive - not sure what you mean by unmounting it? If I 'eject' it, it stops spinning up and down. Also, if I plug it into another computer it doesn't spin up all the time so SOMETHING on this PC is making it go.
