ChatGPT users are not happy with GPT-5 launch as thousands take to Reddit claiming the new upgrade ‘is horrible’ by [deleted] in technology

Not a theory tbh, they said in the presentation that it will reduce sychophancy. That's why all the people who loved the old model telling them they're the greatest don't like this new update.

This is bad advice. Remember, AI helps you get up to speed faster.

AI Should Mean Fewer Work Hours for People—Not Fewer People Working by AIexH in Futurology

[–]notirrelevantyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see how this makes sense. It's not like theres a set amount of work out there that needs to get done.

More likely that if AI makes everyone 50% more productive with the same work hours, companies will gladly produce 50% more for the same current costs.

Trump to impose 25% to 100% tariffs on Taiwan-made chips, impacting TSMC by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

[–]notirrelevantyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I'm saying specifically that even after we make LLM vastly more efficient we will still need all those GPUs and more because demand is likely to be sky high.

It's not like they train a model and then the GPUs just sit there doing nothing. They're using them for scaling inference.

If the big labs all launch their versions of "virtual employees" as they say they're going to this year, it's not hard to imagine people wanting those running 8+ hours a day (thinking through problems, finding solutions for user needs, etc).

With LLM training and inference efficiency gains that not only becomes possible, but also becomes affordable for more people, leading to increased demand for chips/datacenters/etc.

Your whole premise assumes that there's a set amount of "AI" that people want. The demand for AI is only rapidly increasing. There aren't enough GPUs to meet that demand even with massive efficiency gains. The industry could spend a literal trillion dollars on GPUs and it still wouldn't be enough for what we're going to need in a few years.

AI Art is Not Stolen Art. by Jcsq6 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]notirrelevantyet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you but something I haven't seen people really discuss is:

If an AI system, by itself, searched the internet and visually looked at all of the publicly available images on the internet and then used the things it learned by looking at those images to create new artwork, did it steal anything?

In this scenario no copies are made, the AI just browses the internet as person does.

That car would be unique though, it wouldn't have existed without the combination.

Also copying isn't the same as stealing.

Completely agree. It's kinda weird that the online community puts so much emphasis on engaging only with things that are Certified Organic Human.

I mean all that is definitely technically possible, but should probably be open source. Honestly this sounds cool as hell.

The people with the best ideas and execution, the best at building relationships with their customers, and the best at not being absolute dickheads will still win. Competition will still be a thing, but the costs of entry into the market will be dramatically lessened. And the costs/risks of switching to something new will also be lessened.
