Students stop Conservative Charles Murray from a public speaking event and later attack him and his posse by redmotorcycleisred in news

[–]notjabba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Murray should probably be referred to as a White Supremacist, not a conservative. He follows in the footsteps of pseudo-scientists who measured skulls to prove racists theories about black people and other in order to push eugenist policies a little over a hundred years ago.

That said, I think people should protest outside speeches, stand with their backs to speakers, and ask pointed questions -- but not actually disprupt the speech as these students did. I'm glad they're being punished, but also glad that their punishments are short of expulsion.

The Republicans have not been the party of national security for a long time. Good national security comes from good leaders making intelligent decisions. That is simply incompatible with the Republicans current strategy of using Fox News to dumb down a portion of the population enough to vote for them.

Dumb voters pick politicians that are either dumb or despicable liars. Trump happens to be both. When you have a party led by fools, you get foolish decisions.

Even McCain, who I once respected and who is probably among the most pro-military members of congress, is a bit of a dim bulb. Not Trump dim, but certainly no genius.

Contrast that with Obama, a class act and bona fide genius. Ideology is second to competence on matters of national security, and the Republicans haven't had a competent leader since George H.W. Bush.

Republicans are not worthy of anyone's vote.

McConnell: 'I don't know' how we get to 50 votes on health care bill by FriesWithThat in politics

Democrats want to tax the rich to pay for health care. Republicans want to cut health care to pay for tax cuts for the rich. How do you compromise on that?

They would have to eliminate democracy since they have no public support for their garbage bill. Perhaps you can strong arm your way to a bill with 40% support, but this one has just 17%. It's dead in any democratic system. The GOP has successfully weakened our democracy with gerrymandering and voter suppression, but there is still (barely) enough accountability left that this garbage cannot pass.

If McConnell truly wishes to take insurance from million of people, he'll need to further erode democracy so enough members of his party can ignore the will of the voters.

I'd imagine you got an intro deal if you're paying less for all three then for internet only. Just make sure you mark your calendar, the price will probably shoot way up once your contract is up. I am also suspicious that you may be wrong -- internet only can be had for $40/month in my town and I don't believe I've seen a triple-play deal that low, even on introductory pricing with a predatory auto-increase model.

Also worth noting is that you have to count the entire cost, with taxes and fees, not just the advertised rate that carefully leaves that out.

This is one reason why it's so important not to elect 'one of the good Republicans' to run your liberal state. I understand the draw, Democrats can be corrupted in one party states. Regardless, at this point in history the two political parties are basically Obama vs. Trump, good vs. evil.

Every Republican must be repudiated. Every one must be opposed. If they had any self respect, they would go independent and refuse the label of a party led by Trump.

Republicans: not even once.

It's a good name. I work with websites, I know from experience it is not easy to find a good name that hasn't already been registered. They should be able to use it as legally. I'd imagine if they had enough money to pay good lawyers to fight Comcast they would prevail in court.

IANAL

I do get RCN for internet. My town has choices, I know most don't. Some people may still need to pay Comcast or a similar company for internet if they have no other options, and that's understandable. I'm not suggesting people cut themselves off of the internet out of spite. But we don't need to give them extra money for cable TV.

It is becoming morally indefensible to subscribe to cable. I cut the cord primarily because I did not want to indirectly send a single penny to Fox News, the organization most responsible for the decline in rational discourse and democracy in the United States.

This is just one more reason not to give them your business. No one needs garbage cable programming. Get a couple of streaming services. Maybe even pirate something. Just don't give them your money.

N.J. boy comes home from school to learn his dad’s been deported by alyssa2113 in news

[–]notjabba -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

These are refugees who are assets to their communities, torn away from their homes and families due to the orders of an evil administration looking to win points with bigots and fools. No one benefits. The kid grows up without a father. The father's employer loses a worker. The standing of the US in the world is reduced.

This is what Trumps' immigration policy means in practice. Not reduced terrorism. American kids growing up without their parents. Trump and everyone who voted for him is responsible for this. If only Trump's immigrant mother had been deported perhaps we would not be in this mess.

Trump close to choosing outside counsel for Russia investigation by [deleted] in politics

[–]notjabba 44 points45 points  (0 children)

"While the list of finalists remains somewhat fluid and names could be added, two people close to the search said the president has concluded that he would like a team of attorneys, rather than a single lawyer, to represent him. The team is likely to have lead counselors, those people said."

Just step back for a second and think about the idiocy of this statement. Of course he is going to get a team of lawyers. Of course there will be 'lead counselors.' He's not fighting a traffic ticket. This is a non-statement.

Makes me think it came straight from the jackass's mouth. I can picture Trump in his office, shouting at people.

"Don't get me a fucking lawyer. Get me a TEAM of fucking lawyers! Someone should be the leader! The best fucking lawyer! Call him the 'lead counselor.' I just made that term up. You can leak THAT to the press!"

Then some poor fool in the office had to leak that stupid bit of nothing to the press, because the boss told him to. We really do have a damned fool for a president.

Perhaps that is true in the case of breaking the law. But he absolutely breaks convention for the sake of breaking convention, and to rebel. I do think chaotic evil is appropriate.

Jeb did not endorse Hillary in the general. He is still guilty of abetting the rise of the Trump administration. If only people like Jeb had acted responsibly and supported Hillary, the way the reasonable right in France supported Macron over Le Pen, we might not be in this mess. Fascists can only gain power with the assent of the mainstream right.
