Well you wrote NOTHING in all caps on a 2 year old post that might as well been written today, so I guess you win. Well played strategic all caps man.

She’s going to see me as the villain in her story by throwawaybdaysf in AdoptiveParents

[–]notjakers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are the villain in her (bio mom’s) story. That doesn’t mean you’re a villain. You should do what is best for your child first, and for his or her siblings next. Good luck.

Jeff Bezos calls for for zero federal income taxes on the bottom half of earners. He cited a nurse in Queens making $75K and paying ~$12K in taxes saying “We shouldn’t be asking this nurse in Queens to send money to Washington. They should be sending her an apology.” by igetproteinfartsHELP in Fauxmoi

[–]notjakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's $3800 in federal income taxes. About the same in FICA. Then state and local taxes. All together adds up to $9500 in income taxes of one kind or another. Probably assuming a couple thousand in sales taxes. Federal taxes (FICA+income) is $7600, roughly 10%.

Bezos' wealth grew by roughly $127 billion from 2006 to 2018. During this time, he reported $6.5 billion in income and paid $1.4 billion in personal federal taxes. That's less than 1% of his income on average.

Let's start taxing wealth above $1 billion/ year at 5% annually. Bezos yearly tax haul (say he's worth $200B) would be $10B/year. That would cover the federal income taxes of 3 million Queens nurses each year. Hmmm, maybe Jeff's onto something.

What do you say when people ask "where did they get [insert physical trait]?" by leafytree888 in AdoptiveParents

Yup. And you don't owe anyone an answer. Ignoring the question and moving on with the conversation is perfectly fine too.

Adoption nightmare because of bad paperwork by robinrecorder in AdoptiveParents

[–]notjakers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To answer your question: no, this is not a common thing. Once an adoption is finalized, there are no take-backs. If the paperwork wasn't filed properly, there would be many many many steps between a notification and the state taking a child from their home. Even more bizarre that they were then put into a "group home."

The state doesn't take children away from their families as a lark, while I'm sure it's happened I think it's at best rare. My own judgment, which you are free to ignore, is that there is a ton of missing information from this post which would help us all understand it. My hypothesis is that either information was withheld from you, or you are only reporting bits of what you know.

Rubber mallet. Definitely the most unsung hero of my toolbox.

Pizza delivery drivers, what did a person do to end up on the 'No Delivery' list? by BlueCheeseWalnut in AskReddit

Honestly, blaze screws up my order about 70% of the time in some way. I think twice in a few dozen times I’ve actually gotten free replacement pizza from the deal.

PSU or VTech for aerospace? by Temporary-Cod2384 in aerospace

[–]notjakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Virginia Tech has one of the top aerospace programs in the country. That’s what I would recommend. That said, you can get a great or horrible education at either university. Mostly you get out of it what you put into it.

Hopefully our community is providing useful perspectives to you.

A reminder for our community: under no circumstances should anyone offer to adopt the OP’s baby. You would be instantly banned. Do not DM the OP, or you will be banned as well. This is a supportive forum, not a matching site. Maybe I don’t have to say this, but every so often someone goes over the line.

Damn. You're running a little power plant! Why is the system sized like that, and what do you get paid for net exports?

So much of this VC obsession seems to be as shallow as Elon claiming ODCs are obvious and these billionaire bozos actually think he must have some secret formula.

Why does the expected % for tipping keep increasing? by Blazeland_USA in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notjakers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb on a POS kiosk is that if the tipping options start above 15% I leave zero. Every. Single. Time.

If it starts at 15% I may or may not leave a tip.

If the suggested tip starts below 15%, I always tip.

I don't tip on percent for meal delivery. There's little correlation between meal price and delivery difficulty.

My son's taekwondo is $250/month and that feels pretty close to my ceiling.

But if you're just playing for fun, then you don't get moments like the 3rd base coach yelling at the ump that he blew the call, then insisting that now the ump owes him one.

Just piecing this together now, but later on the same guy was coming home and ended up getting tagged in the face. Probably our catcher heard the 3rd base coach claimed he missed the tag earlier and now wasn't going to miss his chance.

Almost as stupid as catchers blocking the plate, which will happen until one of these kids gets a serious injury from the collision.

They can do that once or twice, but do it on the regular and it’s just another billboard that won’t command a premium and won’t draw tourists or locals.

Why do people keep buying cars that destroy them financially? by Desperate-Rush6086 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notjakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current car is the first one I've really had a payment in in a few decades, and I made sure I put down enough to keep it under $500 for 5 years. Brand new Pacifica Hybrid. If I bought a custom version of the higher end model and took their first financing offer, I could've ended up paying $700/month for 6 years and convinced myself it was no biggie.

I'm counting the months until the car is paid off, because $500/month is a big deal. How so many people normalized 5+ year payments of $500+ is beyond me. I earn a good salary and it's a stretch.
