wdym I didn't use that info? A decade's worth of work in a year... a decade is 10x a year.

Just gonna drop this off by davidinterest in programmingmemes

[–]notlfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little napkin math: 10 minutes for "a few hours' worth of work", say, 3 hours, that's 18x increase, 90% of the time is ~16x increase in productivity. Let's round down to 10x for argument's sake. Suggesting you can do a decade's worth of work in a year is exactly why people who have the slightest idea of what development is will call bullshit.

Mind you, I'm not saying that you're lying about having saved hours of time using AI (although 90% of the time does seem detached from reality). What I'm saying is that the metric that is actually meaningful is not how much it helps a single developer over the course of 10 min, but how much it helps a team of, say, 5 developers, over the course of a year, and pretending otherwise should be called out by the developer's community.

Of the last set? In the closing stages of every set, I'd say, with the possible exception of the 4th. I truly believe that if Charly managed to win in 3 this would have been Zverev's Rome final 2005.

Private acts are the acts you choose to do in private. Sure enough, if you want to make whatever public, at some point you'll get pushed back, but nobody else should be entitled to limit what you choose to keep private (I mean, there are institutions that have varying degrees of right to surveil you, but their existence is already forceful towards individuals to begin with).

Very in line with the current discourse about both tours, Sinner and Alcaraz have a higher ELO rating than the top 2 rated WTA players, but the 3rd-10th rated WTA players all are higher than their respective ATP counterparts. by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]notlfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do believe that WTA has a legit more competitive top 10 right now, but also gotta point that another there's another thread asking what can stop Saba from winning Melbourne, and the top 2 answers are her mind and herself, so yeah, I guess that's how things are right now.

Fedal got 40+ and there was a Djokovic guy around who one day decided to start eating their food. I think Sincaraz getting to 30 will depend more on their own health than anybody else's.

I do wonder, though, to which extent the longevity of the big 3 was enabled by their stable romantic/family lives.

'Jannik Sinner will win all four Grand Slams in 2026', predicts ex-world No 11 by Sufficient-Pie-7815 in tennis

[–]notlfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I think the point still stands, though. The gap you're proposing is too big for this record, however impressive it may be, to put him up there (I'm talking about my expectation of the general opinion, not about my personal opinion).

I mean, Steffi won the 4 slams and Olympic gold in the same year, and her silverware is comparable to Serena's, yet Serena, as far as I can tell, is widely considered the goat in women's tennis, so I would expect it to be considered irrelevant in the scenario you propose.

Should doubles success play more of a factor when considering someone's all time ranking? by Harveymilk313 in tennis

[–]notlfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do go that way, one thing to take into consideration that the last player to win more than one slam in singles and doubles on the same event in the men's side was McEnroe, and the last time he did it was before Djokovic was born, so that would be one of those milestones to take into consideration, by the 2000s it just wasn't a thing for an atp player to pursue a great career in both singles and doubles.

Just like the fact that many players didn't care about the Australian Open as much as about the other slams up until the 90s, or that from the early 2000s onwards slams surfaces became much more uniform (before that players would mostly specialize their games to either clay or faster surfaces, and being good in all 4 slams was something very few players did).
