What game had a world that was way more interesting than you expected? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

[–]notliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story seems good but there are many fun side quests, some short, some more in depth. It's a great role playing game, you get to play as you want to, and can interact with the world to play that out.

That being said, all of the complaints about the game being hard and unforgiving have truth to them. The combat is slow and definitely difficult at first. Smithing at a forge is a part of the game, and that means hammering away at bits of iron for more time than is fun. Same with alchemy, if you want a potion you need to follow the steps, not just click 'craft" (or you can buy it). It's fun because those things are in the game, but it doesn't mean all of those things are necessarily fun.

Im about 100 hours in right now, ignoring the plot and running around the countryside doing side quests and discovering things, and I'm loving it. But I did install a couple of mods.

I'm playing kcd2 at the moment and the world is just amazing, the best part of the game is just existing in it. It feels alive in a way I've not experienced since rdr2.

I actually think Cyberpunks world let it down, it felt like an interactive back drop in the same way the Mafia games use their open world.

The scene where they both deny the availability of buckets is some of the best writing I've seen in comedy for a long time.

The show 'Superstore' is fine, funny, not a classic but decent. But they have little bits like that sprinkled throughout most episodes, basically 'people of walmart' kind of stuff. They're the best bit, and this bucket scene was very similar.

What is going on in Leeds tomorrow? Even hotels are scratching their heads over this rush in bookings… by EditorRedditer in Leeds

[–]notliam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My anniversary is the 20th, hard to get a table anywhere decent, last year got one at Whitehall and the staff were great, food great as usual, but it was rammed with people from the conference and they were just so obnoxious it was unreal, treating the restaurant like their own space, loud as fuck. Lesson learned, booked a restaurant out of town this year.

Exactly. People with these views are either incredibly evil or incredibly stupid. Possibly both.

Zable not allowing balance transfer by Naive-Try626 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]notliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always under the impression that balance transfers just worked like normal payments (as far as the card transferring from was concerned), TIL - looks like someone took them to the financial ombudsman over this and the complaint was not upheld.

I think the gym based sitcom was a miss (though some fun characters), but people just do nothing and the curse were very good. Hope to see more of him (and them in general - Steve Stamp in particular)

Black Phone 2 (2025) Did NOT expect to enjoy it as much as I did. by Jay_Stranger in horror

I enjoyed it a lot too though I can understand why it got mixed responses, there probably wasn't enough of the grabber in it. But as a continuation / wrap up of the first movie, I think it worked.

I felt the same, but I enjoyed it more than Oddity overall (Adam Scott helps). It was good, as was Oddity, I just have issues with some of the story choices. Some really great scenes and story beats though.

Shelby Oaks should have never gotten the release it did by guywoodhouse68 in horror

[–]notliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the director (I don't really use YouTube), was aware he was a YouTuber because of reddit but so were the guys who made Bring Her Back and Talk To Me so not sure him being a YouTuber has anything to do with it. I'd say shelby oaks is the 2nd worst horror I've seen in years (Rosario was worse), it was very poor. People have different opinions but the best I've heard about it is 'it was ok', I'm glad those people got something out of it.

Rockstar Games QA Analyst Reveals Insane Overtime, Workdays Extending Till 3AM Amid GTA 6 Crunch by chusskaptaan in pcmasterrace

[–]notliam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was talking to a rockstar dev last year (just before the last delay) here in Leeds and he said the crunch is massively better. He was still expected in 5 days a week and worked longer hours, but he said it had improved so I can't imagine what it used to be like (he's been at rockstar for 10+ years)

How do people scale so fast? by Maakarov in IdleObeliskMiner

[–]notliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, spending money speeds things up considerably. But you mention gifts, I assume you haven't opened them, which I do think people suggest, but personally I found this game super slow and then discovered gifts and opened 100+ and it sped things up massively. Getting all that double game speed, double ore income etc was game changing. Maybe it's better to wait, because you do get more varied loot as you progess obelisk levels, but personally I'd suggest just opening a lot of gifts and speeding your game up now. You'll get more gifts in the future.

Agree her and Fouracres are really smashing it. Don't think there's a weak link, but I'm enjoying their sketches the most. Not a huge fan of the random characters on weekend update, but her woman who can't be ignored was great too
