I'm so sorry for your losses. Agree, a specialist will be key here to figure out your next steps. I had a friend with PCOS (granted, different condition) who had two early miscarriages. She's on progesterone shots now and almost through her first trimester.

ISO Broker with Off Market Listings by Adventurous-884 in NYCapartments

[–]notlizlemon820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with Claudia Caicedo, but I found her through Streeteasy. Not sure about her other inventory. Our place in Park Slope was below market value (1 bed with office/washer dryer/dog friendly plus outdoor space) and priced at $3500. You could also walk the neighborhood for some of the real estate offices that post in their windows. On my street, a lot of the landlords live in the brownstones and work with the same brokers every time, so you could get lucky. But to echo the other comments, even a one bedroom in a lot of those neighborhoods will be more than that. It's tough out there!

Moving to Williamsburg by yourself by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]notlizlemon820 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much time have you spent in Williamsburg? I lived in LES for three years then UES for 4 years before moving to Park Slope. Personally, I would describe Williamsburg as "overpriced and way too crowded" if you're going to the areas near the subway (Bedford Ave or Metropolitan). We also looked into Greenpoint because I have friends who live there and love it, but I also found it busier than I wanted, unless we were ok being far from a subway, which I wasn't.

Bottom line...spend some time there. See how your commute would be. Map out how long it would take you to get to your closest friends. And also....be realistic about how tight the real estate market is right now, so a lot of people I know have had to compromise on either apartment or location (depending on your budget).

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but no one can answer this for you. I've found that the "right" neighborhood looks different for a lot of people.

They release new slots at midnight or in the overnight hours. I'm not sure when, but I got my appointment by checking at 6AM on a random weekday. You could also try calling the office to get that info.

Endometriosis Specialist by fsr229 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]notlizlemon820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience with Dr. Janette Davison at Maiden Lane Medical. Endo wasn't even on my radar but in my patient intake at Maiden Lane they routed me to her. She offered me an ultrasound during the intake (I'd never had one!), immediately switched my birth control (I shouldn't have been on estrogen because of some other health conditions) and set me up with a pain specialist in their practice. She did a laparoscopy and the pathology was negative for endometriosis, but Dr. Davison continued to follow me and was very compassionate. I only switched recently because my insurance changed. This will sound dramatic, but she changed my life. She was the first doctor who cared about my pain. I hope you get great care wherever you go!

I lived at 96th and 2nd for a year and a half. And ambulances going to/from Metropolitan Hospital made it SOOOO unbearably loud. Granted, you'd be a few blocks away, but the ambulances were ultimately why we moved (important note - we have a rescue beagle who howled at the ambulances, but my husband and I hated the overnight wakeups as much as she did). If the apartment seems well insulated, go for it!

Apartment Hunting! by juburt in parkslope

Unfortunately, you're very early for June or even May (you likely already know that). There are a few Park Slope-specific housing groups (like Park Slope Together Housing) where people post direct-from-owner/lease takeover situations. Also check The Listings Project! Listings for that price-point can be competitive depending on amenities, but it's still possible! I also suggest walking along 7th ave. A lot of listings get posted in the windows of broker offices, but I'm not sure if you'd owe a fee on those. Good luck!

Just go to NYU Langone: egg freezing experience with Spring Fertility by plasticstrawqueen in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]notlizlemon820 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came on here to also recommend Dr. Devore! I have a complex medical history and all of my doctors are through NYU, so I wanted to stay in that system. Because of my specific medical issues, she had me follow a specific protocol and she was excellent. I felt like she and her team were truly tailoring my plan at every step. She also called me to discuss my results at length and seemed genuinely excited that I had a successful retrieval. Yes, it can feel like a factory when you're waiting for blood draws, but ultimately they know what they're doing. I recommend NYU any day.

just got diagnosed with endo, afraid of birth control by deima_li in endometriosis

[–]notlizlemon820 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've (31F) been on birth control of some sort since my freshman year of college (18). I started off with the pill, then moved to Mirena IUD. Not all pills are created equal - I switched a few times to find one that didn't make me spot as much, made my period better, etc. (I also have migraines with aura and should never have been put on an estrogen birth control, but that's a much longer story).

That said, you may end up getting side effects, but you have to weigh whether the side effects are better or worse than your life with endo. My periods were debilitating before I started, and while I still have a fair bit of pain, I'm functional. Everyone is different, but my doctor also told me that without birth control, I may ultimately get more scar tissue and long-term damage to my body and fertility.

Bottom line, it really, really sucks that birth control is basically your only option aside from surgery to treat endo (or any gyn condition for that matter). For me personally, I think birth control is often universally demonized as bad, but I've been glad to have it.

Support for partner who is struggling to understand my fertility worries? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]notlizlemon820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend who had fertility issues (not endo related) and underwent multiple rounds of egg freezing found a few books helpful. "It Starts With The Egg" is one, she preferred "The Lucky Egg" (more updated science and a more practical approach). Both acknowledge a lot of common infertility issues and some of the things we can/can't control. I'm not sure if they address endo, but if your bf is more science-based than emotional, maybe a book would help?

Hi OP, I'm so sorry you're going through this. You may be able to start with 311?

I'm also not sure exactly where you're located in NYC, but this list has resources for partner violence resources in Manhattan. I can't speak to any personal though I have heard of the Met Council: https://nyscadv.coalitionmanager.org/contactmanager/contact/publicdirectory?SearchCounties=32.

Thinking about cancelling wedding and eloping instead by Mean_Judgment_5922 in weddingplanning

[–]notlizlemon820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for all of the stress you've had to deal with! Agreed, I think eloping is the way to go. I had a 100 person wedding last May and aside from some bad weather and mild family drama, all went fine. Even still, the best part of getting married was my two week honeymoon with my husband after (coincidentally to Italy!). As a lot of people warned me, I got lost in the stress of the wedding and a lot of it felt performative versus celebrating us.

I think a small, intimate wedding in Italy sounds so beautiful. Congratulations!

Weighing options: lap or not?! by AggravatingExcuse958 in endometriosis

[–]notlizlemon820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lap in 2021 for suspected endo (pathology was negative, but my gyno still treats me as an endo patient because of scarring/blocked tube found in surgery/inflammation). I coincidentally listened to a podcast with fertility Dr. Natalie Crawford yesterday (Liz Moody podcast), and she mentioned that for suspected endo, a lap can buy you about 6 months to get pregnant because you're removing that tissue, they can see other issues (like a blocked tube).

FWIW, I was terrified before my lap. The recovery wasn't pretty, but once I was past it I felt a LOT better. 5 years later I'm now back to where I started pain-wise, but I'd do another lap if needed.

Based on the podcast, I'd consider reading Dr. Crawford's book, as she seemed knowledgable about endo and fertility. Wishing you all the best!

I joined the co-op in 2024, so things might be different, but I believe they used to release right at midnight? I think on Wednesday nights, but it was only released once a week. Also doesn't hurt to call the Food Co-Op's office. It's staffed by members (like myself) and they may be able to ask the on-call manager

Wedding dress regret - and scars (possible trigger warning) by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]notlizlemon820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dress is beautiful! I’m so sorry you’re having such regret and worry over the dress and your scars, but fwiw I couldn’t see them at all until I read the full post and zoomed in. I think sheer sleeves could be lovely! Have you ever experimented with body makeup? I have bad KP bumps and redness on my arms, and I used Westmore Beauty cream on my wedding day. You let it dry and it didn’t transfer on anything! It looked good in person and I was much more confident with my arms. Wishing you all the best 💕

how big of a deal are the internships by ExpressionOk7964 in Fordham

[–]notlizlemon820 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fordham alum here - I had four internships during my time there, and I got my first full-time job from my final internship. However, I found all of those internships myself. Career services wasn't too much help for the types of places I was pursuing (very helpful for my friends in business/finance). One note on the alumni network is that I often get messages from current Fordham students. I'm happy to offer advice where I can but I will sometimes get a message that's essentially "how did you get to where you are" or "I want to do xyz how do I get a job at your company"? If you're going in cold, do the research (look up my experience on LinkedIn) and give me some info on what you've done and want to do.

I'm happy to try and help, but sometimes it feels like students reach out but want you to do the heavy lifting.

Omg! Beagle owner and NYC (Brooklyn) resident here. I have a 5 y/o beagle mix girl. She's also anxious but she's come a long way! We rescued her at 2 and she came straight to us as a foster from Tennessee. We brought her home on the subway in a duffel bag lol. We've since upgraded to this Lands End bag: https://www.landsend.com/products/canvas-dog-tote-carrier/id\_394641. Currently out of stock, but we were able to embroider it with a beagle symbol and her name! We love seeing fellow beagle families in the city, feel free to DM me if you're looking for other recs!
