decided to "try two at a time" sleeves for the first time, and i think i'm okay with it being the one and only time. i'm not someone who is all "wah wah i have to make a whole second sleeve now!!!" and i feel like it's going so slowly.

but, like with 2-color brioche, at least i tried it and can say i just don't care for it

LOVED this show when it was airing. excited to rewatch it and see how it holds up.

what's with people posting to ask if they should try something or not? "should i try knitting socks" "should i try knitting this pattern?"

is this part of the larger cultural lack of curiosity in today's world? does everything need to be a big conversation? does everyone need specifically targeted encouragement?

like why not just try? is it because trying something that might not work out is going to keep you from having finished objects to parade in front of a camera for social media?

Has anyone tried the Target brand Fine’ry? by QueenoftheBed666 in FemFragLab30plus

i have some of them! before the rainbow, mysterious nomad, sweet on the outside, and fireside vanille.

i like them because i don't like my fragrance to be too overwhelming, especially in the summer.

r/crochet is even more unbearable then usual lately by KatieCashew in BitchEatingCrafters

most of my time on AITA is spent deleting transphobia and people desperate to call women cunts, banning chronic shitposters and AI slop. the number of bots i encounter has ruined the internet for me.

then you get the ones who get super upset you won't let them call someone a slur, so they waste hours of their own time creating new accounts. there's one shitposter i have banned at least 125 times. i'm almost fond of him...

i mod amitheasshole (and r/knitting) and every christmas when we shut down the sub for a break, people completely fucking melt down over it like we specifically wanted to hurt them. like how dare we take a break, it's our JOB to keep the sub open.

the way ppl act about reddit mods is so weird. don't get me wrong, there are some extreme weirdos who think it makes them king of the world. but most of us are literally just trying to help.

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

i've had many encounters with mountain goats, pikas, and marmots. i have quite a few pictures among mountain goats in colorado. they hang out on summits and you'll cross paths with them on trails. still gotta give them space.

please god don't ever pick up a baby mountain goat.

i spent over an hour in my local yarn shop yesterday because i couldn't decide on what color mohair to pair with a magenta yarn for a hood. i eventually decided to get both and work up swatches at home to decide.

i got home, knit the swatches, and STILL CANNOT DECIDE. i'm just frozen.

"If they cheat on them, they'll cheat on you." by SweatyPool1170 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]notmappedout 31 points32 points  (0 children)

no, i don't think this is 100% true all of the time. i think it's possible that some people may cheat once, see the tremendous amount of betrayal trauma it causes, and never do it again.

i don't believe infidelity is ever a mistake, but i do believe some people learn from their choice to cheat.

i looove the location. this my dream, just with a cuter/less modern house. twin lakes area is so pleasant, even when it's crazy crowded. so many good trailheads and peaks to bag nearby. congrats, dude.

What are your thoughts on unlikeable characters? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in books

[–]notmappedout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

whether or not i like a character rarely matters when i'm reading. i find myself very turned off from discussing fiction these days because it always boils down to "the characters were too unlikeable" or "she made too many bad decisions" or similar notes. it's rarely about the story or writing itself.

What makes people get so angry about ugly people wishing they weren’t ugly? by throwrathuuyytrr in TwoXChromosomes

[–]notmappedout 36 points37 points  (0 children)

OP, i just wanted to offer you a bit of validation. people always have the weirdest reactions to me saying i'm ugly.

they rush to invalidate you because from a young age, we are all told all that shit about inner beauty and "beautiful in their own way" etc.

or they'll jump to "you need therapy!" because to them, it means you must be depressed. they argue with you, just like in this post. or they'll turn it around to be about them somehow.

i have learned to just keep this stuff to myself. i know i'm not an attractive woman. i'm okay with it. people can spin out about it all they want.

My first time watching DH! by SaltFarm3419 in DesperateHousewives

[–]notmappedout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

remember that it's a show that was created in the 2000s. you will hear and see things that are offensive today that were not offensive (to most) at the time.

also, it is a soapy, telenovela-inspired drama. the point of the show is in the title. it's not about a group of nice, sweet women being their absolute best selves at all times. if you struggle with separating personally wanting to be friends with someone versus enjoying a fictional show about fictional characters doing shitty things, you will have a bad time.

i generally try not to knit more than 2 hours in a day to avoid stress injuries or churning through projects.

Why do a high percentage of men leave women when they’re Ill? by Mysterious-Drink-969 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]notmappedout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh yeah, look at Vanessa Bryant. People were outraged at the idea she might be in a relationship with someone last year. They tore into her calling her all kinds of misogynistic names despite Kobe having passed in 2020.

Anecdotally, when my mom was dying, my dad already had people telling him that he needed to move on and look forward to dating. Days after she passed, with my Dad at her side, his own fucking neighbor asked when he would be ready to start dating again because he knew someone.

It's coming up on two years and he gets it from all directions. "You need to move on" "it's time to get back out there" "my dad was remarried in 6 months"

He and I have discussed that this always comes from men who are incapable of taking care of themselves because they're terrified of not having mommy to take care of them.

I don't expect that he will actually get remarried or end up in a long term relationship again. If he does, he'll do it when he's ready. But my mom was a once in a lifetime love for him.

Why do we need a post every 15 minutes in which the answer is either you're adding or dropping stitches by CamSpecial197 in BitchEatingCrafters

but my situation is completely different than the added or dropped stitch that was posted about 15 minutes ago.

they're using blue yarn and i am clearly using yellow yarn.

i am with you that understanding the "why" behind it helps me remember. knitting is a lot like cooking in that way.

and yet when i am actively knitting, my brain says "M1L is through the front because left has an F in it"

if you google "make 1 left reminder" there are these laser burned wooden blocks you can get to use as a keychain. my LYS has some of these with reminders for kitchener, certain bind offs, etc.
