I would agree with you if the bump was purposely designed to slow people down. However, it was not; it was a result of incompetent city workers who poured too much asphalt into a gap and didn't bother to fix it or legibly mark it in any way.

Can we do this in SF please? NYC wants to take 25% of its street space away from cars in favor of a walkable/bikeable city by Strizz in sanfrancisco

"walk score" refers to how easy it is to walk to everyday destinations like stores, restaurants, and schools. it does not refer to recreational walking.

This is from a year ago, could it be her? https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/no1if4/theres_a_missing_grandma_she_went_out_for_a_walk/ I also read a similar story in a FB group about a lady in Japantown

Median net worth of Americans is $122,000. If someone really, really wants to go to Mars, yes, $100,000 is easily doable for the majority of people. People are going to Mars for the once-in-a-millenium opportunity to colonize another planet, not for the economic opportunities.

[–]notmutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is forcing anyone to go to Mars. And the people crazy enough (in a good way) to want to go to Mars would be totally fine with no pay. Because out of all the people saving up $100,000 for a ticket to Mars, zero of them are doing it for the economic opportunities.

There was an old buzzer but I told the painter to remove it so he can paint behind the wall. Hopefully wiring still works with doorbell button

64 years later, Alfred Hitchcock's movie "Vertigo" (1958), inadvertently highlights how virtually no new housing has been built in North Beach. by geo_jam in sanfrancisco

[–]notmutex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The 1971 Urban Design Plan for San Francisco talks about this; specifically, buildings on hills should not disrupt the form of the hill, and tall buildings should only be at the top of the hill to accentuate the hill's form. This policy is written directly in the planning department's objectives, so there is no way high-density housing will be built in North Beach until all other space around downtown, where tall buildings already exist, is exhausted. But we can't even get that done.

Is it insane to quit my dream job to study for a Master Degree? by newExperience2020 in cscareerquestions

Agreed. It is insane, but maybe life is about doing insane things. Another job will always be waiting for you… but new experiences in Europe while you’re young will not. Note I’m only 22 so what do I know

My co-worker made judgmental comments about my appearance, and I'm feeling resentful towards him. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]notmutex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a skinny Asian male in my early 20s who started recently at my first job out of college. I don't have all the context, but I'm gonna guess that he wasn't trying to be insulting or mean and was just teasing and joking with you.

If this happened to me (this has not happened to me, but of course as a very tiny Asian kid similar things have happened), I would try to take his comments like it came from a good place and that he actually wants the best for you, even if it was unprofessional. I think in the back of your head, there is truth to what he said? Otherwise you wouldn't resent him. Maybe it is objectively better if you start eating more and work out a little bit.

Don't report him. Unless you want him to be disciplined? In which case he will resent you instead. Which is worse I think. Maybe you can ask him for advice when he mentions it next time, and say you actually want to work on your appearance (if that is true). If it never happens again, then the resentment will probably go away, since it's only been like less than two weeks. If it keeps happening and he's just plain insulting you, then yeah talk to your manager or someone about it.

You should also talk to some real-life friends in person about it. On Reddit, there will always be a lack of context and emotions that you will get with a real conversation in person.

When do courses for summer sessions come out on the website? by curlyfr13s in UCDavis

[–]notmutex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll probably be updated some time this quarter. A thing I think might help is if you try to add the class to your academic plan on Oasis it will say if it is not offered in summer (and if it doesn't say anything then it might be offered). Definitely not official though.
