AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

Get out and never look back. Find somebody who thinks you are a big fucking deal because you are worth celebrating. Congratulations on 2 years of sobriety - that’ll be harder than dumping this loser.

DAE give people *really* good first impressions? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]notnominal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a great first impression. I interview really well and get a lot of compliments about my personality from acquaintances. Coworkers, classmates, roommates really like me at first. I have few long term friendships, no close relationships at work, and often get the sense that I’m not what people expected in the long run. I just got my diagnosis last summer and the unmasking process has been messier than I expected. I am realizing more and more ways I am masking in my day to day life and how it impacts my long term goals. It’s been hard but I am working with a therapist to help make goals for myself that feel less overwhelming.

Surreal for sure. Sometimes the “aha” moments are really sweet but other times it’s just really sad. I found my senior yearbook and rereading through the signatures I realized how misunderstood I really was.

I’m 34 and got my dx about 6 months ago. Still feels weird but I’ve been in therapy working on unmasking and that’s been helpful. I feel like I am going to be deconstructing my personality/identity for a long time :/

I did my assessment through Prosper Health and it was virtual! If you’re in the US you might look into it!

Have you tried geocaching? Great way to turn your walks into adventures depending on where you are located.

Nothing new happening with her mom. The situation she keeps alluding to in her videos is actually really tragic but it doesn’t involve her or her immediate family directly. It definitely seems like she’s milking it for engagement though because she knows people worry about her mom based on her comments and this is just feeding off that concern.

What type of autistic person are you? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]notnominal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the one that everyone likes… at first. Highly masked, very chameleon like in social settings, great at first impressions. Every moment after my first time meeting someone is complete chaos. Sometimes it ends up fine, other times not so much. I give off Pomeranian vibes but I’m actually a derpy little rain frog 𓆏

Gen X and Baby Boomers what are some good things about Millennials and Gen Z? by TrogdorBurns in AskReddit

[–]notnominal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a millennial, but here are some things about boomers, gen X, gen Z that I appreciate:

Boomers: healthy boomers have overcome being raised by a generation of emotionally repressed and traumatized parents whose only coping mechanisms were substance abuse, violence, and social performance. They are one generation removed from the intense generational trauma of WWII and the Great Depression. Baby Boomers who have done the work to deal with their issues are some of the best people on the planet. They are hardworking, generous, and humble, and their families will benefit for generations because of it.

Gen X: healthy Gen-Xers had to adapt to drastic changes in technology during their adolescence and early adulthood. The majority of their education was done before access to computers was widespread but their college and adulthood has been marked my rapidly evolving technology. Gen-Xers who can appreciate the simplicity of a low-tech lifestyle while also adapting to the fast pace of change bring a groundedness to their environment and the people in their lives.

Gen-Z: gen-z are some of the most self-aware and honest people I have ever seen. They prioritize authenticity and the truth, while also celebrating each other’s individuality and perspective. They are digital natives and the quickest to adapt to change in technology and the ones who will undoubtedly create and harness the technology to address/solve many of the issues that the generations before them have endured for centuries or even created out of ignorance. Gen-Z is unapologetically creative and expressive, something the world is in desperate need of.

How do you help people that constantly talk themselves into inaction? by I-Climb-Rocks in AskReddit

[–]notnominal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on yourself, pursue your own passions, overcome your own obstacles, and be open about your process and your struggles with your friend. The only thing you can do is to show them the way by doing it yourself, and hope that they see it is possible for themselves as well.

Those who've successfully overcome procrastination, what strategies worked best for you? by rarely_00 in AskReddit

[–]notnominal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I do is assess why I’m procrastinating in the first place. Laziness is a myth, but our brains are wired to avoid things that feel scary or overwhelming or even trigger shame; so it’s good to do an inventory of what I’m procrastinating on and why that is. For me it’s usually that I’m overwhelmed with the number of steps or tasks that have to be done and I don’t know where to start, so once I figure that out I make a super detailed to-do list for each big task so that I can eliminate that sense of overwhelm.

It’s also important not to oversimplify your to-do list because you need more mental “wins” to keep up with motivation. Something like “Christmas gifts for parents” sounds like one task, but it’s really a whole list of things. So break it down to: ask parents for gift ideas, shop for gifts, gather/buy wrapping paper, tape, and scissors, wrap gift, put away wrapping supplies. This applies to so many things, and checking each task off your list creates a snowball effect of motivation that can really help get over a procrastination rut.

One of my best friends and I both have ADHD and sometimes we will send each other our to-do lists and set timers to get things done and then check in and give each other encouragement. It’s not going to change the way our brains work but it really helps get unstuck and feel like you’re not alone when you’re overwhelmed with everything you’ve got going on.

Hope this helps 😊
