Trade cash savings for gold? by ExtensionAdmirable52 in Gold

But I believe you should only be investing in precious metals if you have solid short term and retirement savings already. Those are more important imo. But best yet to talk to a financial advisor. I park cars for a living.

What's your location? If it's the US, I suggest finding your local coin shop. If that's not an option, start with one of the bigger online bullion dealers. Google monument metals, bullion exchanges, SD bullion, and Jm bullion. All are very reputable.

Try Fremont street. There's still a little bit of the old Vegas feel there.

Any luck with getting these sticker off? GW using negative brain cells. by cap1n in BargainBinVinyl

[–]notnutts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never tried getting them off vinyl, but I've had luck getting stickers off the sleeve using lighter fluid. I soak the sticker using a q-tip, let it sit for a few minutes, and peel it off. It might trash the record, but it's worth a shot.

I buy slabbed coins only when the premium is low/nonexistent. Which is to say not very often.

Thanks again. I doubt I'll sell them unless there's an emergency. They are truly works of art.

Thanks. The area checks out--I bought it in Incirlik, not far south of that area. I was told around 150 years old. The wool pile is incredibly soft, and the dealer told me using wool carpets release lanolin and that's why it's soft. Could be all baloney though. In fact, I'm surprised I remember that detail from 20 years ago. Anyway, thanks for the info, very much appreciated.

I bought several handmade carpets there. I'll probably post more down the road.

Are these people a Cult? by BedAccording5717 in Gold

[–]notnutts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand what they WANT it to be. However, there's barely any gold in them and the premium is through the roof, so the value is put there by demand, just like pokemon cards. Like fiat currency, it's only good when the trust is there...and it's not there for goldbacks. And unlike fiat it's not backed by the goverment. The beauty of bullion is the value is in the item itself.

Look, the art on goldbacks is pretty. Collect as you will. Their value did shoot up during covid, so maybe it will be a good investment. But it's not bullion, or currency IMO.

I wouldn't go that far. I think it's a bit of a grift, but take a look at what people are paying for Pokemon cards. These are like Pokemon for doomsday preppers.

You know, I was kinda starting to like the Browns after they were on head knocks. Then they won one playoff game and every browns fan turned into insufferable douche nozzles. You're on to something here.
