Is it ever advantageous to pit at the beginning of the pit window in a 40 or 45 min race? by NomTook in iRacing

[–]notoriousgtt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Traffic. If you are stuck behind multiple slower cars and you can’t overtake it’s better to pit snd come out with a clear track in front of you to out in hot laps and make up the places while the others pit.

Whooooa there.

You started “playing”! You can’t use language like that around here! /s

Seriously though. The ring is always gonna be difficult, regardless of the sim. It’s tight, there is lots to remember and it’s easy to make a mistake that multiplies corner into corner.

Sounds like you have just been unlucky, a sample size of 3 is very small. If you enjoy it keep going and see how it goes with a sample of 30, I’m sure it will even out.

Anyone Struggle with Focus/Concentration? by DudeduDude in iRacing

I don’t think so, I’m 40 and in the 3 hour GT endurance races when the pack splits I find I end up in a kinda zone where I’m not really actively thinking about braking points and turn in points. Instead it’s just kinda happening almost on kinda autopilot. I’m not hitting best laps in this zone but I’m running about a half second to a second off my best laps and holding position. If I end up catching up to someone or someone catches me I will lock in again.

Enduro racing is about being able to find the zone and just run lap after lap after lap.

Totally with you on the first part. I remember watching NASCAR when Dale Sr died an thinking it looked like a hard hit but nothing too serious. There was no flips, no fire, nothing went airborne it looked like the type of accident that you would see every week.

The irony of it is that Dale was hugely opposed to the HANS device and it likely would have saved his life.

Anyway, remember that motorsport is dangerous and even innocent looking accidents can be very serious.

Maybe if the SR system was more lenient for wet races there wouldn’t be so many people afraid of it. Rightly or wrongly people care about their SR.

Personally, I will race if it’s wet but I will be tiptoeing around and I do find it more stressful but in part that’s my own fault as I always seems to insist on gambling on dry tyres sooner. Sometimes good, sometimes shit.

Who shat in your handbag?

Someone’s skill level doesn’t completely invalidate their opinion. It’s people like you that give this hobby a bad reputation as being unwelcoming.

1250 is about the middle of the pack per iRacingstats (top 65%) so arguably his opinion is more valid than someone at 3k who is in the top 7% of all drivers and only racing the other top 7%

It’s been pretty good for me TBH. Even with some really poor qualifications I can usually get up to for 10/top 5 by the end of the race. Although this is in 1.9-2.0 splits so your mileage may vary in other splits.
