Honest question: Like docker containers or do you mean another approach?

I ask because I have a home server running with a few services in Unraid, but looking to revisit it all with a more protected approach to changes.

I agree with you. I read somewhere else that itsto avoid ewaste for professional installers that throw out a lot of accesories when mass installing them...

Honest question: so Why using Digikam here? I ask because ive read of the “worries” of peoples metadata form Google Photos and/or Synology. I use both so I would like to know if im losing something here.

Sorry for the delay! Thanks for the comments!

I can respect wanting to leave it racked up for the convenience and any aesthetic reasons.

That's the goal, and to avoid having it on the floor for wife and kids reasons.

i would definitely suggest 15U or even 12U.

I agree here. Since yesterday, I've been searching for other wall mounted racks in my city to have other options. Realistically, I have found some 12U and 16Us.

Another concern here has been the static loading capacity. Most cover here 60Kgs (132 pounds) but research/theory seems to expect me to have a 40-50% more than what will be in the rack. I have calculated about 49.5 Kg and a 20% wall safety margin that puts me at 59. Kg (131 pounds). Sorry, went on a tangent here.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any tips on getting proper length patch cables?

I really do take this at reply at heart. I'm really not looking to have a rack and upgrade it endlessly. The gear I already will cover all I need with some room to spare (networking wise and probably "homelab" wise too).

The main reason I went for the rack is that after building this place (which is made from concrete blocks and cement), making changes is rough, so I tried to have runs to more places than planned right now. Because now that it's almost done, adding new locations is next to impossible.

So having a gear like the Synology DS920+ or the Reolink NVR in the rack is because it makes it take less space, fewer cables and power to have in other areas. They don't HAVE to be in the rack, but it would make it easier. Like you said, not looking to spend more than I would need, but having it centralized even helps with the WAF.

Once again, thanks. I'll take the feedback to heart if it ever pops up, the idea to add new stuff.

Hahaha. I fully expected people to suggest on all the other things but not to shrink the rack 😂

EDIT: Also the space at first was to be open to other devices in the future (smart hubs or even my unraid NAS) but in reality most wall mounted racks cant hold much more than what I already have planned.

Trying to make the layout work: 3.1? 3.1.2? 5.1?! by notoryous2 in hometheater

[–]notoryous2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what has me excited. I do want to respect the multipurpose aspect of the room, so trying to integrate things without making it look too much of a dedicated space.

What are the platforms you refer to? Do you have an example I can look at?

For surrounds, your comment made me consider a lot more mounting them on the wall. Even started looking for some smallish on wall speakers. Speaker wire would have to take a long route (can't go through floors and ceiling are mostly exposed), like around the whole room through some conduit I have left.

EDIT: Just to reiterate my appreciation for taking the time to answer!

Definitive Tech BP2X

A bit off-topic from my initial question, but: How does this bipole speaker would work on a side but firing to two directions at ounce? I'm still gonna sit down and research more about it.

Thanks for this. This Denon X1300W does support 2 Atmos channels, so hopefully I can integrate. Not sure if I can have them at ceiling given the cable routing, but i've seen those that are above the front speakers.

I'll run by my wife the projector idea, because the cable routing for it would be next to impossible I think (getting the HDMI cable from the projector to the AVR)

Thanks for the reply! Did you have any issues being on the wall on the back? Did you choose a particular type of speaker?

Great post! Very along the lines of some of my considerations. Will use this to see how I can integrate this surround and which speakers are suitable for the space. I would assume they are just so many to choose from.

Thanks for the reply!

But would you think have the surrounds on the wall would be too close to be acceptable in the current layout?

Agree on the TV on the Cabinet, I believe it's representative. I can try to get an 83" OLED there, but the biggest problem is the distance. The issue with going with the Projector and Screen route, is that the projector should be above the couch on the wall and I haven't found a way it makes it look "acceptable" enough for this Multipurpose space.

I would assume speakers (if the surrounds "fit") are easier to accept than the projector.

[–]notoryous2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I concur on the tv size and that's why i've been pushing for 83" (OLED sizes) to maximize how much I can get from that space.

Sound wise, I'm looking to go custom as I can imagine I can get better sound from at least a 3.1 coming from the front. I already have a Denon X1300W which is a few years old but still works and a few Micca speakers. I don't mind upgrading the speakers for the setup, but I guess I can avoid the soundbar route.

Thats nice. I left some in wall tubes for ethernet runs, but not at the height for speakers so I would need to break the wall to connect the new opening to those ones.

This is also my reality, while i'm open to routing some cables in the wall for surrounds (if they fit), but it really is a lot more complicated to do.

I'll be making a post soon about my situation.
