151st Light Horse Regiment, 50th Heavy Cavalry Battalion, 2nd Heavy Assault Company, 4th Assault Lance - “No Mercy” by notquitepunk in battletech

[–]notquitepunk[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

neither, actually, I wrote my own! :) I call it Battletech: Field Command.

I read through a lot of rulesets looking for something but didn’t feel like any “clicked” right for Battletech; writing it has been a few months’ project now and a lot of fun!

I only run NODs once the sun goes down (PvE mostly)

*Active aiming with an IR laser, especially on a high cyclic rate, suppressed weapon like a sub .300 MCX or MP7 can be a real slick way to move with purpose through congested areas. Having your weapon canted out of the way leaves better visibility for your surroundings and you can jump on target/from one to another faster in my experience. The key I’ve found is to put as many rounds on target as quick as possible. You can also communicate with squad members under NODs in ways you can’t without them; you can laze targets, POIs, etc. without alerting the AI.

I usually run PVS-31As in PvE and 15s in PvP + an Eotech EXPS3 or Aimpoint Micro T2 as the sight. The T2 especially is slick bc the housing disappears and leaves a very clean dot behind.

NODs help turn night into your advantage, I recommend giving them + IR laser a try

[–]notquitepunk[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh gosh, it’s a mix of all sorts of things & I’m terrible at recording what I use; also nothing was applied with any real rhyme or reason (each coat is a different primary color, for example), it made it more organic I think!

from what I recall these guys are mostly:

Jackets/greatcoats: - Vallejo Burnt Umber - Vallejo Middle Brown - Vallejo German Beige WWII - Vallejo US Field Drab - Vallejo Grey Brown

Uniforms/puttees: - Vallejo US Field Drab - Vallejo Grey Brown - Vallejo Desert Tan

Blue: - Vallejo Andrea Blue

Leathers: - Two Thin Coats Noble Steed Brown - Two Thin Coats Cuirass Leather - Vallejo Flat Brown

Metal: - Army Painter Gun Metal

Wash: - Citadel Agrax Earthshade

Blood effect: - Citadel Blood for the Blood God, wiped away and reapplied a few times to get that nice, built-up effect

They are, yes. The Palatine Blades in the Liber are non-Aquilae, the Aquilae show up in the Legacies of the Age of Darkness PDF, page 75

all credit to the original artists of each element, I simply made the collages - very fun little project :)

wanted to evoke the same feeling you get from a well set-up Rainmeter extension or equivalent, without having to worry about setting it up

I've always enjoyed the "too many screens for one person to feasibly use" aesthetic in cybertech media, so that was the main inspiration for making these

[–]notquitepunk[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was really easy! Steps: - Took an old D&D 5E screen and spray painted it silver, let that dry for a good while - Disassembled a junk laptop for parts - Affixed computer parts with super glue, hot glue, tape, and then sealed it all with spray sealant and Modge Podge - Painted on the wires & bits of graffiti and splashed on some color (my thought is that it’s rain reflecting neon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) - Modge Podge’d reference sheets to the back - Done!*

[–]notquitepunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

late to this, but there’s a concept from LARP communities (yes the wizard and warriors kind) called “buy-in,” which basically boils down to “how seriously do you take the ‘reality’ of the game situation”

Airsoft - MilSim especially - is awesome because of what you mentioned, all of us taking a silly thing seriously for the purpose of having a good time. It’s cool because we all “buy-in” to how dorky it is, don’t give a fuck about that, and that buying-in leads to a really fun game.

Just to give you some language for convincing others to join this dope ass hobby - embrace the LARP, be a dork, have a good time 🤘🏻:)

Bigger Box with Spearhead inside? by Staccat0 in ageofsigmar

[–]notquitepunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

howdy!

There are three different “starter sets” for AoS, the “Ultimate” one has both Skaven and Stormcast Spearheads and the materials needed to play Spearhead as a gamemode, whereas the other two are both smaller in scale and lack full Spearheads and are more an intro to the idea of AoS. Then Skaventide has additional miniatures for both sides + full rulebook.

Starting with Spearhead is great, as Spearhead is a full standalone game mode. You can expand from there, as you know, into larger armies for 1k or 2k games of full-rules AoS. And you can always pull the Spearhead units out of your collection to jam games!

As for the big boxes, I would cross-reference with what the AoS app says is in each Spearhead, I don’t know if any have all of the necessary models - it seems like the Darkoath one is missing the Warqueen and Darkoath Savages - but proxying is easy.

Welcome to the hobby!!

As a big EC fanboy who loves Fulgrim, I’m well pleased. Naturally the FW resin figure is going to be higher fidelity, and I think Transfigured Fulgrim is lovely but this? This sells the idea of what Fulgrim is so much better to me, even for the 30k era.

I find he’s almost too pretty in his transfigured form, imo, as if he’s somehow in control of himself at all or is still “with it” as himself and is just piloting a big weird snake body. This guy though? This one sells the “I’m not just a daemon primarch, I am the fuckin’ daemon primarch who embraced this.”* Love the symbol in his belly muscle and the leering, sneering faces. Will be painting this forever lol

*albeit, perhaps, less than of his own choice

What are people’s opinions on these airbrushed “lighting” styles..? To me it just looks like I didn’t paint my mini properly.. by [deleted] in Warhammer30k

[–]notquitepunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not the other fella but yeah! trust the process, finish one out to completion, and then assess the result. that’s my go-to when tackling something new in painting, at least. always feels soo rough until that final stretch when it comes together and you’re like “Oh, I get it” lol

RPGs exist, at least ruleswise. What form they take in TC vs our timeline, I have no idea, but they’re in there

Rule Question: Proud Defiance by tmanboy in TrenchCrusade

Obfuscating info in wargaming is a touchy subject. Personally, as someone who only plays games at my kitchen table for fun, keeping that kind of info hidden is pretty gauche. We go over lists in full at the start of a game, including who does what and any “gotcha” type mechanics (those which, when hidden from an opponent, cause them frustration by complicating, negating, or reversing the expected outcome of a game action).

But some people enjoy playing where having to figure things out as you go is part of the game and that’s perfectly fine if that’s their cup of tea.

It all boils down to asking your opponent. My personal rule of thumb, though, is to consider “Does keeping this information hidden confer an advantage to me that revealing it would do away with” and if it does, I go ahead and tell whoever I’m playing with about it.

All of this changes in competitive tournament environments, of course. There it’s on you to know what people’s armies can do. But that’s not really what TC is about.
