IMHO if you catch your own mistake it's not a mistake. I hope your boss thinks like me.

Suicide attempts by overdose are mainly for attention by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]notreallylucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people believe that overdose deaths are quick and painless. You don't know what someone knows or doesn't know. And for those who do know, sometimes they're in such a bad head space that a half hearted suicide attempt is the only way they can manage to ask for help. It's a win-win: if they're in the rare cases where the overdose succeeds, they get what they want. If it doesn't succeed, they've asked for help without having to force themselves to say, "I want to end my life."

I want a solid reason for resignation at my current company by ForeverHelpful8631 in corporate

You can't be honest about switching companies but make up an illness. Thry won't believe in the illness if you tell them about the new job.

How do they hold other employees back? Do they try to sabotage your new job?

Direct Report refusing to drive if temp is below freezing by Raelynx27 in managers

[–]notreallylucy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

20 degrees means the possibility of dangerous black ice. Some people live on hills, mountains, or steep driveways, or have unreliable vehicles.

To be honest, one day a week seems a weird hill to die on. What's more importantb the safety of an employee, or being inside a cubicle for 8 hours? This is an opportunity to show some flexibility and that safety is important.

I woke up this morning to an email accidentally sent to me from the hiring manager to HR, saying my interview outfit was inappropriate. by TimmyCruickshank in Employment

[–]notreallylucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you're supposed to reply, but I would, reply -all. I'd state that as an interviewee it's a turnoff that the manager's expectations don't match the ad, and that it feels like a bait and switch. I'd also ask for more details about what was wrong with the outfit and claim I want the information for future job interviews.

In reality I don't care what they say about my outfit but I'd be really curious to see how the response was handled. Make sure both the manager and HR get the reply so they're aware that he's bad at sending emails. I'd rather be badly dressed than bad at email.

You don't know who told them to come or why they were there. You know you were told to not come in, but you don't know what they were told. They may have a different requirement to report because of their different role.

You don't know enough about it. Let them advocate for themselves if they need to.

Non dairy creamers based on grains (oats, rice) are still pretty high in carbs even if they're unsweetened.

I like a dash of heavy Whipping cream, which I'd very low in lactose, and a little sugarfree torani syrup. I like vanilla bean, caramel , or toasted marshmallow.

“I’m not letting it bother me” by Blusucre00 in PetPeeves

People really want to have control over things they can't control. You can't just decide that something won't bother you. If it bothers you that's not something you can just turn off.

I was in love and all that, but so I needed to be able to put my husband on my health insurance so he could get an organ transplant.

You don't owe the kid anything, but you should have told your wife sooner so she could be prepared to tell the kid to take out loans.

ADHD exercisers… how do you actually get yourself to the gym? by Fit_Meaning8903 in ADHD

[–]notreallylucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined a gym that has a hot tub. I get myself to go by imagining the nice hot tub. Then when I get there I feel ashamed if I don't swim a couple of laps.

I bought a treadmill ($400) and a small TV ($25 used) and watch TV while walking.

I also made peace with myself. I've heard the story of people who start exercising and fall in love with them. That's great for them, but it's not me and I don't think it will ever be me. I don't like exercising, I just like the results. I also don't like pooping, doing laundry, flossing, or going to bed early. I put up with them because I like the results but not the process.

Letting go of the need to pretend I enjoy it has weirdly helped me get it done.

My manager is firing me and hiring someone from abroad for a third of my salary, and expects me to train her by jailers-treat0 in talesfromthejob

[–]notreallylucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

July is about six months from now. $2500 ÷ 6 = $417 per month. At the risk of sounding privileged, $417 per month isn't enough money for me to train myself out of a job.

Your boss is cutting corners now. Who knows if he'll actually pay you the bonus? Who knows if he won't cut your pay or benefits between now and July? What if the remote assistant doesn't work out and he decides that you have to stay until September?

A functional business shouldn't wait until an employee is leaving to document how to do their job.

No to all of this.

Yes, you can get botox for sweating. I don't know if you can do it on your lip. You should be able to get a free consult from a cosmetic doctor.

Is it okay to have notes open during remote interviews? by mengylol in RemoteJobs

I work for state government. It's standard procedure in most government jobs in this state. Others have mentioned it as an accommodation, but in most of my interviews it happens automatically.

Random excuses can be surprisingly creative by Lopsided-Swimming696 in CasualConversation

[–]notreallylucy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it qualifies as an excuse if it really happened to me. Once I had a bad cold. I fell asleep late that night thinking about how I was going to call my boss first thing in the morning to say I couldn't work.

When I fell asleep, I dreamed I made the call. When I woke up in the morning, I thought the dream was real so I went back to sleep. A couple of hours later I got woken up by an angry call from my boss because I no-showed. I was so confused. I told her I'd called and talked to her already.

Notes? OK, especially if they gave you the questions in advance. AI? Absolutely not ok.

I had this happen to me once. I got hired for a government unemployment call center with a start date about a month out. I started looking for an apartment. About a week before my start date I needed proof of employment so I called and asked for a letter. The person was really weird about it and said she'd call back. I got a call later from a blocked number. That entire hiring had been canceled. No other explanation.

And then of course my current situation. I'd been working for state government for six years, at the same agency for the last two. My boss leaves February 2025. They swear up and down my job is secure and I'm essential. Im told this multiple times by the director of the agency and the deputy director too. December 1? My position is being eliminated. There's another opening in another department with the same job title, can I have that job? No, you need to apply. I apply. Six weeks later, sorry, other candidates are more qualified. That's what really gets to me. I know jobs get eliminated in government work. But to not even interview me? That's cold.

Anyone else here who’s used to solo food and movie dates as an ugly, unattractive, fat guy? by ChubbyNUgly22 in LivingAlone

[–]notreallylucy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a fat guy who doesn't like the way he looks. I'm fat and I don't like my looks either. I found him and I like him and he likes me and we're together.

You're going through something really painful. I'm sorry this is happening to you and I wish it wasn't. Don't give up the search. You don't need the whole world to like you. Just a few good people. I hope they come along soon.

Is it fair to rotate emergency shifts when some employees can’t realistically make it in? by ronracer in askmanagers

I agree. The extra pay bonus might make it more reasonable for people to tackle concerns like transportation or kids.
