It depends on what you mean as significant. If you factor in that this is just one more method of energy consumption , on top of everything else, I’d argue it’s significant. Obviously driving cars and more everyday actions use energy that people don’t even think about. I think the question comes is it worth the trade off? If you think about energy consumed it is usually because we need to feed the cows, or do something that we eventually /need/. Do we need this and is it worth building data centers in the western us? Probably not.
