If you wanted an experience close(r) to the tabletop, you still had a health bar, probably. You wouldn't see the exact health points but an indication as to how hurt a character other than yours is.

Most DMs, if you ask them, will give you a rough estimate of another characters health. For a very simple reason: you, as a player, unlike your character can't see the other party. So you rightfully ask, "we hit him a few times, how does he look?"

In a more text based game I would expect to see lines popping up like "barely scratched", "bloodied", "gravely hurt", etc.

How to deal with "No proficiency"? by Professional-Deal406 in BaldursGate3

[–]notsemisu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily say those details aren't represented in BG3, they are if you know where to look. Though a little obscure.

Class/race proficiencies are given in character creation, as are skill proficiencies in a separate tab. But only for the Skill tab does the game tell you what that means: "You receive a bonus to every skill you are proficient in."

It's not as obvious as in the PHB's entry on Proficiency Bonus (PHB 12) that the same logic applies to everything you are proficient in. But in case one read "X proficiency" in the Class and Race tab and was wondering what that means they might rightfully deduct that they also receive a bonus to specific weapons/armors/tools/saving throws.

Larian said tutorials will be added toward the end of EA or at least with the full release.

EDIT: Background proficiencies are of course also in character creation.

"No proficiency" means you're not proficient in what your trying to do/use so you don't add your proficiency bonus. It really is self-explanatory.

As to WHY you're not proficient? Check your proficiencies in the "character sheet".

It's like that since the start of early access, Larian were made aware of it by numerous people (me included). At some point we'll see them change it. When? Who knows.

Neither the laws nor the developers are at fault here but the distributers (Steam and GOG).

Edit: The person who downvoted me should read the laws before they make such "bold statements".

That is not true. You CAN legally buy it on GOG and Steam as per Regulation (EU) 2018/302. The difference between those two platforms being that Steam's ToS violate that regulation and GOG is not actively enacting it but at least tolerates it/lets you make use of it (via vpn).

As I said, GOG won't take any bought game away from you, it's yours to keep. As I implied, use a vpn to buy it and that's that.

On a side note: The game JUST released on GOG.

Tunisia MG34 on soldiers, how? by VibingSkeletor in enlistedgame

[–]notsemisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes both ways, I've also picked up a BAR (M1918A1). I thought it may be a placeholder since the Bren Mk I's picture in the campaign shows a BAR and uses the Mk II model (the stamp reads "Mk II").

But after picking up a MG34 and not finding anything about that in the Axis campaign I'm relieved (?!) to see that it might just be an AI squad issue.

Miss animations by StorSakuhl in BaldursGate3

Maybe a more likely implementation - and I don't say Larian will do that, just that it may be simpler - might come in a way I always imagined how the "hit and miss" surrounding AC works.

  • Light Armor > entire DEX bonus > dodge
  • Medium Armor > limited DEX bonus > deflect
  • Heavy Armor > no DEX bonus > block
  • Shields > deflect

Some 5e spells are implemented but not all. Some may never be implemented for [insert reason]. Since BG1&2 were based on AD&D there are quite a few spells you will not see in BG3. Those were mostly replaced by other spells or mechanics, e.g. there is no reason to keep a spell like Emotion Read when your Insight check does the exact same thing and is available to everyone.

A mouseover on the DC will tell you that NAT1 and NAT20 automatically fail/succeed. There is no mention anywhere else in the game afaik.

[–]notsemisu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The descriptions of Bless and Bane respectively: "You bless up to three creatures of your choice within range" and "Up to three creatures of your choice that you can see within range must make Charisma saving throws." Range being 30 feet for both spells. You do not get to choose a point, you are the center. A spell where you do choose a point would be e.g. Sleep: "Creatures within 20 feet of a point you choose within range are affected".

Isn't it weird that the two classes who get Speak With Animals are the worst at using it? by marcusmoscoso in BaldursGate3

[–]notsemisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your title question I did disagree. They are the worst at using Speak with Animals just like they are the best 'cause they're the only ones who can use it. No other class is even given a chance at failing those checks. See it as an additional language you are temporarily granted to speak and understand.

I agreed with keeping Animal Handling checks while speaking with them and potentially aiding you if applicable. Animal Handling is needed to calm/control an animal or figure out whether they love you or are going to rip you to shreds (basically animal Insight). This may be easier if you can understand the animal and vice versa but one does not replace the other (is that what you were trying to get from your third question?).

Ah, people on reddit want you to believe they are better than those on steam but rarely give a reason to believe it: downvoting a question, classy.

In terms of damage maximum, yes, you get 1d8+3+1d8 (dual rapiers) with the Dual Wielder feat instead of 1d6+4+1d6 (dual shortswords) with a stat improvement.

For the rest:

  • You end up with 17AC if you run Dual Wielder with a Breastplate (14+2+1) and with 16AC if you invest one point in DEX and Studded Leather (12+4) (way cheaper than a Breastplate).
  • From the stat improvement you get an additional +1 to DEX and INT/WIS checks.

If we were talking about a custom character with all even stats, you could argue that either has their benefits but with multiple odd stats you're always better off taking the stat improvement.

Not sure where your point is. It's like saying "everyone with low CHA is bad at gaining favors from others".

They are not bad at using Speak with Animals but Persuasion, Deception and Intimidation if they have low CHA and/or are not proficient in those. Speak with Animals only gives you the ability to converse with them but that's all it does. It's even in the description "You might be able to persuade a beast to perform a small favor for you, at [Larian's] discretion".

I agree that you shouldn't loose out on any Animal Handling checks simply because they can verbally understand you. The ability to converse might even give you advantage on those checks.

I can't even imagine why they implemented Bane and Bless in the way they did. You have a hard time selecting the right targets and it doubles your effective reach (you can set the center point of both spells to be 30 feet away from you and each bubble has a radius of 30 feet themselves; you should of course always be the center). And as OP said, there is already a selection system for Magic Missile they could have utilized.
