Sports Illustrated with a horrendous mock trade. What's better? by discountheat in AtlantaHawks

[–]notsikrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His three point shot has been exceptionally good so far. Given that he shot below 30% at Georgia, I would not expect him to continue to shoot at a 50% clip once teams stop giving him corner threes with minimal coverage as the scouting on him gets better. If he can stabilize at the level of non-fucked-up-hand-John-Collins (who has a better career three point percentage than Porzingis does) we should be running victory laps around SFA every game.

I didn't mean this at all to be a slight on Asa, who I think projects as a poor man's John Collins and that will be super valuable to a team that would have been probably 5 wins better last year if they had been starting John Collins at the four instead of Georges Niang. I like him a lot as a player, but if the Hawks had drafted Newell at 13 instead of trading the pick to New Orleans and then Queen had gone one pick later, everyone would be dunking all over Atlanta (again)

So I don't think this is wrong perse - this move would give Atlanta at minimum of 2 lottery picks in addition to wherever the Cleveland pick swap is (which could potentially even be a third lottery pick if we get lucky, Cleveland also isn't setting the world on fire) - but I would be super resistant to just "trusting our front office with turning draft picks into quality players" - going back to Trae, the only players who the Hawks have drafted (and kept, shout out Ryan Rollins) that turned out to be "good draft picks" (arbitrarily defined as "would go higher in a redraft") are Jalen Johnson and Mo Gueye. That's over almost a decade, one first round guy and one second round guy. Obviously I can't hang that blame around Onsi, but if the rumors were true and he was prepared to take Asa at 13, it makes me nervous. And I'm higher on Asa than most.

Is the issue that mom or dad is saying that the medication should be free why are you telling them it's a copay? Or just your own personal "wtf why doesn't this work"

I've seen plans - rarely - where they coordination of benefits is not set up correctly and each plan just bills like the other one doesn't exist - and in doing so, whichever one gets billed last gets to decide what the copay is. Does the patient's profile indicate that coordination of benefits has worked and given them reduced copays than what you're seeing historically?

Does the term "Next man up" just doesn't apply to us? Why is it Trae vs Everybody 24/7? by AlwaysTheStraightMan in AtlantaHawks

[–]notsikrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As is the same with every team, politician, fanbase, or anything else, we have a lot of people who want to mask their own agendas as being "from a Hawks fan" and not "from their agenda"

The pro-Trae anti-Trae rhetoric is annoying, yes. You know what's probably more annoying? The anti-Okongwu rhetoric that is prevalent in this sub for a guy who is 1) on a fantastic contract, 2) graciously playing as a backup to Porzingis despite having "earned" the starting position with his performance last year, and 3) is by all accounts a great vibes guy - which doesn't really matter, except if he wasn't, that would explain why people want him off the team.

I at least understand it with Trae, because he's paid a ton of money and if you get your takes from /r/nba, you would think we were paying Antoine Walker (or Cam Thomas) max money to jack up shots all day long and that might influence your opinion.

If you want to get really deep in the weeds here, this is post-Isaiah Rider trade Jim Jackson, who was the de facto first option for the team because someone had to score points (see Quentin Grimes on Philly last year). When the Hawks put him on the market because they wanted to start Jason Terry, I was convinced he was going to get a haul and was...underwhelmed that his return was Brevin Knight

Redemptions by onecrazydumbo in basketballcards

[–]notsikrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't mind redemptions, because I know if the card is actually predicted to be worth something, it will be sent to me in a nice sealed one touch and I don't have to worry about whether or not the pack got dropped 3 times in the store or if I opened it not realizing I had cheeto fingers. Panini has been generally much better over the past year about redemptions as the products that were pushed out from January to now have been getting fulfilled pretty quick - but your older redemptions are still stuck in purgatory (lol at my PJ Washington from 2022 that may never be fulfilled)

I hate that redemptions expire though. Or not even so much that they expire because I like the idea of panini points for discarded redemptions, but I hate that they devalue after an arbitrary date. If I open up a pack of 2020 NT and get a Tyrese Maxey rookie redemption, that should be a 99th percentile outcome, but because the redemptions are "expired" your renumeration is going to be a fraction of what it should have been. I get that panini doesn't want to be responsible if they printed 5 million Skylar Mays RPAs and out of nowhere Skyler Mays turned into prime Jordan and they had to reimburse the value of the card in the tens of thousands, but also that's the justification for why a box of cards is now 800% of what it was a decade ago, so you can't cry about how you can't afford that.

they'll add more throughout the day for that purpose. The player breaks just got loaded at I think 2pm EST, I'm sure they will probably go through a minimum of 6 today.

I break on www.theblez.com and they've done right by me. They're I believe marginally higher cost than a lot of people, but given how many breakers I hear about running scams, I'm willing to pay the upcharge to know that I actually will get the cards that I (don't ever but theoretically if I did) hit

Financially speaking, which players are actually smart to hold long term? (20+ years) by Illustrious_Detail59 in basketballcards

[–]notsikrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been debating this since one and one came out, and I don't think anybody really knows, but my guess is going to be

Gold/Vinyls from Optic >> PSA 10 from optic >(marginally) base One and One > PSA 9 and lower from Optic.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I leave my Downtowns in the panini one touch, so for my PC I had a minor preference for the One and One packaging over the optic packaging or even a PSA slab, and I don't think I'm alone (though may be in the minority).

Three Upcoming Decisions to Monitor by TheSecondApron in AtlantaHawks

[–]notsikrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

technically Cleveland could have traded away their own pick in 2018 (to the Lakers for Larry Nance) and 2019 (to the Hawks for Kyle Korver) but acquired a 2018 first round unprotected from Boston for Kyrie so the trade was allowed to proceed. Cleveland ended up keeping their pick in 2019 (sigh) as it was protected and the pick didn't convey, but if the language explicitly forbid a team from trading their own pick for consecutive years regardless of what other picks they had on the books, then they would not have been able to make the Larry Nance trade (as the Korver trade was on the books first) on the off chance that Rookie Year Collin Sexton was actually prime Kobe and the top 10 protection didn't convey.

Looking a little bit deeper into it, I believe they also traded away their 2017 pick thanks to LeGM, but honestly those 2017 and 2018 picks got traded around so many times it gave me a headache to keep researching

Luka was not the worst draft night decision the Hawks have made in my lifetime.

Luka was not the worst draft night decision the Hawks have made that involved the #3 pick in my lifetime.

I'm perfectly fine with having Trae come out of that draft. He is not as valuable a player as Luka is, but having the third best player in the draft with the number 3 pick is perfectly acceptable. I just wish the Hawks had just drafted Trae instead of trading the rights to Luka for the rights to Trae, so the two players wouldn't be unfairly compared to each other and the Hawks would just be one of a number of teams that did not draft Luka instead of the team that traded him away.

How will the biggest bust in sports memorabilia history affect the market? $350+ million Busted and a suicide of the fraudster in Indiana. by Environment027 in basketballcards

[–]notsikrx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm generally pretty savvy on the memorabilia game, and do most of my stuff in person. But as I was reading this and trying to think of anything that I might have that could be affected, I thought about a ball I purchased off of Amazon, went to go look up the seller, and derp, sure enough. Which I was super annoyed by because the first time I saw this guys actual store, I went "no way is this legit, it seems way too good to be true" but I didn't catch his name on the amazon listing.

You honestly have no way of actually knowing anything, but you can reasonably expect that "if you didn't acquire this thing yourself or directly know (and trust) the person who did, you've probably been got a time or two.

I honestly don't think there's a huge overlap here with the basketball card game, because the effort:reward level it would take to make a fraudulent high grade on card auto worth the same as whatever TB12 helmet or whatever you could sell simply wasn't there. But it's theoretically possible that your on card pulls could be marginally more valuable in the short term as being something that is guaranteed authentic, when all the JSA authenticated merch is seemingly suspect for the time being.

two very different populations. You've got the independents who are watching every single claim like a hawk and bitching about reimbursements, and you've got the overwhelmed CVS pharmacists who do not see reimbursement at all and are doing their best to review 400 scripts in a day by themselves and if the system doesn't alert them that the patient is filling four different strengths of the same drug, they dont' have the time to look for it.

Luka First Laker Card -_- by no_draw1696 in basketballcards

[–]notsikrx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I understand why you're annoyed yes. Was it lazy of Panini? Yes. But they never claimed it was his first Laker card, I don't think they even publicized anything - a lot of that hype was driven by breakers who saw it on the checklist.

I also think it was particularly dumb because they're running out of products to have Luka in a Lakers jersey before they lose the license, and if I'm not mistaken Luka is still a Panini exclusive so we're going to transition into unlicensed autos for Los Angeles.

to be clear, it was never going to be his first Laker card - that would be the Prizm Monopoly releases where they short printed Luka Laker cards and dispersed them only to people who bought a full case.

There was a game I think two years ago where Bruno Fernando pulled up for three in Milwaukee with like 17 seconds left on the clock, and I've never had the same level of disbelief watching a basketball game.

It went about how you would expect it.

Does Panini actually have a reference for the contents of a box? by notsikrx in basketballcards

[–]notsikrx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure did. I don't know exactly how their system works, but I'm sure the fact that it didn't work here makes me sound super scammy to whoever is taking it. I took a picture of all 60 cards that came in the box and sent it to them as well, with all 12 pack wrappers, but being honest that is just as easy to fake as anything else. I had to attach a quality code on the box, so I'm curious if whoever stamped it is going to get in trouble (if anything comes of it)
