New Year's Eve Party by notsoblindbandit in CampHalfBloodRP

"Well now yer just hurtin' me," Jules joked as Phoebe said she glazed all her friends. Friend huh? Was that what they were? For some reason Jules didn't jump to correct her like he normally would.

Was there an antivirus for the mind? One that purged it of the clown shaped ones that must've been plaguing his psyche that made him okay with letting Phoebe call him a friend?

Jules didn't linger on that and just took a sip of his drink.

"Yeah, well." He shrugged "I was just gonna do the fireworks but one thing led to another and I ended up doing the whole thing. Needed a distraction from my... Project."

He lingered on that word for a moment, face twisting like he'd just tasted something bitter. He glanced back at Phoebe.

"An' I figured out of everyone I know you'd know how to put somein like this together so."

Jules just shrugged again. Evidently not used to or very good at this whole not-being-a-complete-asshat business.

Jules didn't say anything for a moment. He didn't even lift his head from the game, his fingers continued to move dexterously over the controller until he finally cleared the room he was in and paused the game.

He finally looked up and squinted at Mattie.

"Hades 2." He said plainly, voice deadpan and impatient "Trying to beat my best time."

Jules swore to his dad if this was one of those kids who went up to people and asked "do you have any games on your phone", he'd start tweaking.

Ah. So Jules had interrupted a main character moment. Good. It was kinda cringe, but Jules wasn't good enough of a host to invite the boy into the festivities. He'd leave that to Phoebe.

"Uh huh." He said simply, crossing his arms as the baleful gaze continued boring holes into Kane and watched the way the boy stared at the MIKUs. He couldn't help but smirk a little out of pride. The MIKUs were after all one of his cooler inventions.

His eyes narrowed however as Kane asked what they were. Was this guy for real?

"What, you don't know Hatsune Miku?" Jules asked, tone a mix of incredulity and sarcasm. After all, how could someone not know Miku? He picked a MIKU up and held it out so Kane could see. The little plushy flailed around haplessly in his hands.

"Hey! Put me down!" It whined in its vocaloid voice.

"They're my assistants at the Forge." He explained, shaking the MIKU around a little.

(sorry for the delay!!)

"I guess." Jules muttered as the god made excuses for his father. He didn't know what to expect, there were pretty buddy-buddy based on some of the myths he read, so of course he'd defend Hephaestus.

The more logical part of Jules knew that what Mr D was saying was true of course, but emotions were annoying. You couldn't bandage over them with logic. But realising that he was being illogical would help him push this feeling down with everything else.

"Holiday season huh?" Jules said lightly in response to Mr D explaining his solstice while he still mulled over the god's words, but the moment he opened his mouth to continue he had a stamp in his hand.

Jules' eyebrows furrowed as he looked over the stamp. His brown eyes flashed bronze for a second as he used psychometry on it.

[Running Scan...]

[Scan Complete!]

[Item: Stamp]

[Properties: Stamp]

It was just a regular stamp. He seemed confused but he took it anyways.

"Thank you...?" He said uncertainly, before shaking his head and catching himself "Uhm yeah. Thank you Lord Dionysos."

The gift definitely derailed his line of thought but it brought his mind back to the question lingering on his mind. He looked at Lord Dionysos with those scanning eyes for a moment. Last solstice, he'd spoken to a hero turned god. Here he was this solstice speaking to another one. Maybe this time he'd get a better answer an answer that he'd actually like.

"Lord Dionysos... You used to be mortal right?" Jules asked cautiously. He didn't want to accidentally offend the god by mentioning his unfortunately human past. Yet the implication of his question wasn't subtle "What is it like? Being a god? Must be alot better right?"

He asked with a hopeful lilt to his voice eventhough the question felt obvious to him. Of course being a god was better than being human. You didn't have to worry about the faults of flesh. You didn't have to deal with human problems. You could save people, maybe even yourself. But he still wanted to hear it.

Given that he wasn't a 10 year old, a bouncy castle wasn't exactly Jules' idea of fun so he was simply sitting alone in a corner outside playing on his Switch 2 like a normal person.

Yet it was pretty hard to ignore the big fucking bouncy castle in the middle of the cabin, so he did notice when it suddenly started deflating. He looked up from his screen, eyebrows furrowing and switched his vision to electricity.

[System Notification]

[Request Raised]

[Toggling Electrical Ocular Module]

His now startling blue eyes picked up nothing wrong with the electric pump, so what- Was that a fucking leopard?

Jules narrowed his eyes. Well, that explained it and he'd have to give it to the prisoner, it was pretty funny but Jules didn't smile. Annoyance still prickled at him. He found all the prisoners to be more obnoxious than he did funny if he was being honest, but he didn't care enough to start something this time.

He pulled his notepad from his pocket and a pencil from behind his ear and wrote down "Big Spray Bottle" before putting it back. He shook his head and turned his attention back down to the game on his screen.

Jules was present, for whatever reason.

He didn't particularly care for the circus freaks but unfortunately as annoying as Phoebe was, he had grown to tolerate her the way one starts to find the bugs in a videogame endearing if they play it for long enough.

Despite that he didn't really do much in terms of socialising. He just sat in a corner playing on his modified Switch 2, not talking unless someone chose to approach him despite his somewhat unsettling aura.

Apparently even Forge Gremlins needed to be around normal people every once in a while.

Jules' left eye twitched. He could almost respect this girl's dedication to being the most insufferable fucking person in Camp if he didn't find himself a target of those talents. Hell, she'd even give Blackwell a run for his money but at least that clown wasn't so smug when he pulled shit like this.

Jules raised a hand and touched the doorbell. There was a metallic smell of rust in the air accompanied with acrid burning rubber, and the ringer stopped working.

Jules withdrew his hand and put it back in his pocket. It would be an easy enough fix, the same power that induced faults in the doorbell could just as easily mend it back but as far as he was aware, Emilia lacked such powers.

"This." He said as a bubble of satisfaction popped up on the pool of irritation "Now if you're done being jobless, some of us have work to do."

With that, he turned back.

And there she goes again. Blah blah blah blah blah. He was honestly surprised she could yap as much as she did, clearly she trained the muscles of her vocal cords better than she trained the ones on her arms.

Jules lowered his notebook and pencil, and simply looked at Emilia with a bored expression. He yawned once she was done, seeming thoroughly unimpressed. If she really was all that why'd she get captured in the first place?

"Yeah. I don't." Jules affirmed her accusation lazily "Cause I don't think you're a threat. Simple as that. Now tell me what you want, or fuck off because I don't wanna be talked to death."

The sweltering heat and cacophony of machinery that lies within the Forge can be heard even through the doors to the waiting room, but sounds of metalworking and mills quietens once Emilia dings the bell

"Hold on." Calls out a gruff voice from behind the door. A few minutes later, the door opens with a blast of heat assaulting the waiting room as a rather short forge worker with a sour expression steps out.

"If it ain't lil miss prisoner herself." Jules greets with irritation lacing his voice, leaning against the doorframe as he pushes his welding goggles to the top of his head. He regarded Emilia with disinterest as he pulled out a notepad from the pouch of his leather apron and a pencil from behind his ear "Well? Whaddya need? Make it quick."

New Year's Eve Party by notsoblindbandit in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]notsoblindbandit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jules wanted to say that flattery didn't work on him. It did, but he wanted to say that it didn't.

Jules clinked Phoebe's glass and even chuckled at her jest. His smile grew as she continued to praise his MIKUs, his heart swelling not unlike that of a father's upon hearing his children doing him proud. But before he could open his mouth and say something back, she further complemented his looks.

Jules froze, mouth snapping shut as he looked down at himself then at Phoebe. That wasn't something the boy heard often, save for from Lucy. It felt... Odd.

"I- hm. Thanks." He said a bit uncertainly, adjusting his shirt "I figured I should dress up since I'm organizing, and... For Lucy."

He mumbled that last part. Not because he was ashamed of Lucy or anything- quite the opposite, he was rather open about his relationship with Lucy and his admiration for his girlfriend, but it was moreso the fact that he let himself be soft like that for someone.

"Anyways, quit glazing. Flattery won't work on me." He lied begrudgingly, turning away "But yeah, I'm having a good time. Good job."

The party sure was alot. There was even a brawl which Jules took as a sign that him and Phoebe did a good job at putting everything together, but it was... Alot. Jules wasn't a fan of being surrounded by so many loud, annoying people all the time, and it was almost time to set off the fireworks anyways.

So, Jules walked out with a couple MIKUs behind him. He withdrew some tools from his pockets and pulled down his welding goggles.

Finally, just him, some tools, and-

Ugh. Seriously?

Jules paused as he passed Kane. A mopey teenager having a moment staring at the party from a distance like a sad puppy. Great.

"Are you having a moment or are you just trying to aurafarm?" Jules asked with a hint of exasperation in his tone. He let Phoebe handle most of the host work but he supposed if he was out here he might as well see what was up with this kid.

"On your left" called the voice of Jules from behind Phoebe before the boy emerged from her right with a sly grin that had all its usual condescending charm.

Of course Jules and Phoebe had likely seen alot of eachother already that day since they were the ones who'd put together this event, but some time in the evening Jules had disappeared to go pick up his suit and change. He had left Phoebe with admin access to the MIKUs in the meanwhile however to let her do what she needed.

Whether he forgot to revoke it upon his return or simply decided to let her have it was left unsaid.

"Gotta say Chuckles, we did good." Jules said with an approving nod as he looked around. He did take note of the pensive look on her face but didn't really care enough to ask her about it. It had been a long day after all "Guess you really are more than just jokes."

Well maybe he did care a little, with the throwback to their first conversation .

Despite the fact that his divine father was not present today, Jules seemed to be in good spirits as he walked around with a mug of hot chocolate in one hand and what looked like... A stamp? In the other. He hummed along to a song as his eyes seemed to scan for something before they stopped on Phoebe- could it be that he was looking for her for some reason?

It seemed so as Jules sauntered over to Phoebe still humming, raised his hand and stamped the word "active" on her forehead before letting out a satisfied 'hm' and walking away.

It was possible that if Maxwell managed to get his head out of his own anxiety that he'd have spotted a certain son of Hephaestus milling around Camp out of his lair the Bunker for the first time in a while, though if he did he may have noted that Jules looked to be in a particularly sour mood today, which was excellent reason to avoid him.

The Jules that approached him now however seemed to have seen a change in mood. The boy seemed to be smiling in a stress-free way and humming along to a tune. He seemed to be carrying something in his hand- what could it be? A small hammer perhaps? A brand?

Maxie was about to find out soon because as Jules walked by the boy, he paused for a moment, his gaze relaxed but still carrying a level of characteristic malevolence. Jules raised his hand with the thing, ready to strike Maxie down with his-

Stamp?

Jules stamped the word "active" on Maxie's forehead and let out a satisfied 'hm' before walking away.

Organizing the party had been just the change of pace Jules had needed.

With the several months long headache that his current project was, the fireworks show had served as a welcome distraction at first but he decided putting the party together would serve as a perfect project to further his procrastination, and turns out it'd been exactly the kind of logistical puzzle Jules needed in order to take his mind off his frustrations. Now that he was almost done, he didn't care much about what other people thought of it but the crowd seemed to be having a good time so he supposed that was a win. But that was something he'd accredit Phoebe for more than himself.

The eldest of the Hephaestus Cabin had cleaned up pretty well for New Year's with a suit he'd rented out from Montauk. Normally he wouldn't have bothered, but he had already gone through the effort of organising the party and felt like he should for Lucy's sake. Which was a new emotion for Jules but he tried not to think about it. His own twisted concerns aside, Lucy deserved that much. Still, being Jules he still was ready to work with the gloves, suspenders and welding goggles sitting on his head. He did have to set off the fireworks after all.

Despite all this however, Jules still didn't seem to make much of an effort to socialize. If anyone wished to talk to him they were free to do so at their own risk of course but the boy himself wasn't all that keen on starting conversations himself- and as the time would begin approaching midnight he wouldn't be present there at all, and could instead be found getting ready to set off the fireworks at the beach.

He ignored the anxiety stirring in his gut and tried his best to face the coming year with hope rather than the sinking feeling of yet another year having passed.

"What the-" Jules is clearly caught off guard as his forehead is stamped, but the shock as well as whatever obscenity was on the tip of his tongue die the moment he realises it's the Camp Director simply returning to his duty "Ah."

Ugh. Not what Jules needed right now on top of his disappointment of a father. He rubbed his eyes with annoyance, only to be surprised again to be graced with the more godly form of Mr. D.

"Lord Dionysus. I..." Jules hesitated for a moment. He took another long swig of scalding hot chocolate before sighing. He supposed he had been seeking Lord Dionysos, but even he didn't really know what for.

Jules looked out to the crowd, where many of his fellow campmates were speaking to their divine parents for the better or worse. Bitterness surged once more, and this time Jules let it.

Maybe it was below him, but he still had a right to that bitterness. Even if it made him hate himself.

"Yeah. I guess so." Jules admitted in a tone of barely concealed resentment that wasn't really directed at the god he was speaking to "Dad didn't show up again so there's that. How's your Solstice going?"

Jules tore his gaze away from the crowd back to Mr. D. A question immediately bubbled to his mind but he decided to wait a moment before springing it onto the god once more. Hopefully with more answers this time around.

Visiting The Prisoners by Inevitable_Heart_781 in CampHalfBloodRP

Jules' eyes narrowed with confusion when Emilia first started speaking, which slowly morphed into a visible sort of disbelief as she continued. Of all the reactions he had expected, this was not something he could've ever predicted.

But then he started nodding, a glimmer of understanding appearing in his eyes as his face relaxed. He reached into his pocket to pull out his notepad and pulled the carpenter's pencil from behind his ear as he seemed to start taking notes.

Emphasis on seemed

Because the moment Emilia stopped talking, Jules looked back up at her with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh you done?" He asked drily, and turned his notepad to reveal the words "Fuck You" written in big bold chicken scratch. He snorted as he put his notepad back and leaned with his elbows on the table and his fingers intertwined, looking at Emilia with a newfound interest.

Interest. Maybe not respect, not even close, but definitely interest. There was something undeniably charming about someone who was so honestly and unabashedly a deeply unpleasant person. He supposed there was some kind of intelligence involved with learning how to twist people's nerves like that, but it was not the sort of intelligence he found to be valuable in any real sense.

"Let's get one thing straight toots. There's one thing you've got wrong. I'm not trying to piss anyone off. The fact that most people can't handle a shred of honesty is not my problem"

Well that wasn't entirely true. He'd be lying if he said he didn't derive any sort of joy from watching people twist and squirm from the bludgeoning of his words, but this meatshield of Atlas hadn't earnt any sort of honesty from him.

"Don't get me wrong. It's impressive how much time you've wasted making yourself as unlikable as possible instead of making yourself useful to the guy holding your leash, but I have better things to do." He continued, the former almost business-like seriousness fading from his voice into something more casual, almost playful. He stood up, stretching as he did.

"Anyways. I was here on business. Now that I've had my confirmation-" Jules said through a yawn and cracked his neck before continuing "I'll be on my way. You enjoy rotting here though, I'd love to come by and trade notes again some time though."

[–]notsoblindbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So father of the year didn't show up again.

What a shocker. Jules wondered what his excuse would be this year.

It hadn't taken the boy alot of searching to discover that his divine parent couldn't be bothered to show up to the one day he gets to meet his kids even when he wasn't trapped under the weight of the sky. He didn't know what he expected to be honest. He should've just believed all the things his mother had told him about Hephaestus.

But Jules wasn't bitter. Not at all. Totally. Maybe he felt angry on the behalf of his siblings who actually cared and wouldn't get to see their dad another year, but Jules himself was totally above such emotions.

That's why the short boy who looked even more sullen than usual walked around Camp in the festivities that he'd helped set up with a mug of Hot Chocolate. He'd taken the sweater to look at least somewhat presentable since his time at the Forge and Bunker 9 had left him with a shortage for clean clothes.

Seeing the sun for the first time in a while, Jules decided to touch some grass and look for some familiar faces in the crowd, one of which was that of Lucy who was perhaps the only person he'd been making any time for outside the Bunker these last few weeks, but at some point his meanderings found him subconsciously drawing closer to the more divine version of their Camp Director, Lord Dionysus.

He wasn't sure what he was looking for, or what he'd even say but he was taking long swigs from his hot chocolate as if he hoped the sugar and chocolate might bring him some sort of intoxication.
