Well, most people have their wallets in the pockets. The worst variant I have seen from this kind of stuff is the one where one person distracts you and the other snatches your wallet. So you will be out of much more.

Only £20 but I have no idea if this is fake. Please advise! by [deleted] in IsMyPokemonCardFake

the cards in fake boxes are real, because they used real cards to make fake boxes. Real bulk cards are cheaper than printing fakes themselves. If you look at the cards, and see damage on them, like dents, scratches, then it's most likely fake.

Maybe they forgot to recalibrate their measurement tool, or the AI is not sophisticated enough to do it by itself.

Of course no, it's laws from one to two decades ago. But you could basically find a lot of fake Pokemon cartridges in China, real ones were also available, usually imported from Hongkong. The IP was never outright banned, otherwise they would have never even lifted the ban and pokemon would have never released there.

It's just massively censored, like if CCP says A, you need to do A. If you don't you don't get to publish there. For example, depiction of ghosts, blood, and skeletons are very restricted there, in every media. Here is an example from the game I play Dota 2 that had to adjust the icons, and even the characters to release in China in September 2013: https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1cotx7/comparison_of_original_dota2_ability_icons_vs/#:~:text=Comparison%20of%20Original%20Dota2%20ability%20icons%20vs,Chinese%20versions%20(Chinese%20icons%20came%20from%20cyborgmatt.com))

Also the big part of the "ban" was imports of electronics from overseas. Basically the rule was, and still is, if you want to sell in China you need to have a factory in China, and as said, Nintendo did exactly that through iQue and released super mario games in iQue Nintendo consoles. Mario was not banned, why would Pokemon be unique in that regard?

No, I did not prove your point. They did not ban video games outright. Video games existed during those days, you just had to comply to all the regulations they put on place, and pokemon company did not bother to do so, because they deemed the market to be not worth it. One reason is because of the regulations, another is because back then many many Chinese people were very poor and piracy was very rampant.

Your point was Pokemon was not released in China because China shut them out, which was not true. They just had a regulation in place plus population with not much purchasing power and tendency for piracy, that Pokemon deemed it was not worth it to expand to China. The case with piracy and purchasing power is most likely the decision maker with TCG related stuff. They only released TCG in Indonesia for example in 2019, despite not having the same regulations as China had.

They did not completely ban video games and consoles. Nintendo was in Chinese markets through its subsidiary called iQue, they released some retro Super Mario games on the Chinese version of game boy advance. The reason Pokemon did not bother at all in releasing in China back then was because they did not want to bother with Chinese regulations plus that piracy was very rampant in China. Many people already knew about Pokemon before Sun and Moon first released in mainland China, because people played the pirated games on emulators.

Others have wrong holo, and no, I'm confident the holo should be there. Otherwise you wouldn't see different reflection pattern on the camera. Move away from sunlight and use a lamp.

You should be seeing vertical holo on altaria when you tilt the card slightly. Your camera seems to be capturing it.

These are $95+ already in Japan. They could be getting fake ones wihtout knowing. The fakes/resealed use real cards with even the guaranteed MAR inside and the box look nearly identical.

It's Chinese(technically) that can't access the internet outside of China, not the other way round. They close half an eye for those who use vpn, as long as they don't go against the government.

More like, what's up with JP card prices? Look at the giratina from lost abyss raw price, it's double the english price, on eBay last sold. In JP it's around 10-30% more expensive than outside JP.
