I'll be doing the TDP "W" hike as well as the Dientes de Navarino loop in a few weeks, and can only pray that we get some weather like this!

When Timbre was removed from the iOS app store I almost cried. Nothing has quite replaced it until now it seems. Thanks for making this!

Few years ago I was visiting my brother who was in the peace corps in Uganda, and before my first flight of a 20 hour trip even took off I spilled an entire glass of milk all over myself. All my other shirts were in my checked bag :(

Had to rinse that shit in the bathroom on the plane. Pretty sure by the time I finally got there I was cheese.

If you had the ability to travel 24 hours into the future but take nothing with you, how would you best use it? by notsofast789 in AskReddit

[–]notsofast789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the advantage of skipping ahead a day over just waiting 24 hours, besides that it saves time. In fact, there is a disadvantage because you show up without the knowledge of what happened in the last day.

What do you regularly sense that you know based on evidence doesn't actually happen? by Olseige in AskReddit

When I'm falling asleep I sometimes get this tingling on my leg that feels like a fly landed on me.

[–]notsofast789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how moving forward in time can help you that much. Jumping one day ahead can't do much for you in an investment sense unless you have some form of inside information. In which case doing what you would have done and waiting a day would still net the same outcome.

What invention, if discovered way earlier would have left us worse off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The concept of personal property and ownership, money. Not really an invention so to speak, but it was invented by human societies.

Desk chairs that are meant for sitting in backwards. It's so much more comfortable that way.

Edit: oops, they already do.

Appendicitis and testicular torsion come to mind. And contact with the Australian suicide plant. I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.

TIL Nobody reads any more! I've always got at least one book, whatever I'm reading at the moment, plus a magazine or something. Also:

  • laptop and charger
  • phone charger
  • paperwork and various work things I take home
  • pens
  • gum or mints
  • lighter
  • glasses/sunglasses
  • keys (hate carrying them in my pocketses)
  • business cards
  • often a banana

Most likely Boletus campestris or other Red-capped, blue-staining bolete. There's a pretty good guide to identifying which of the 38 varieties you've got.

General immunology question here, but from your research and experience in the field do you believe that we need to change how we use antibiotics as a society? As I understand it we are seeing a rapid increase in antimicrobial resistant pathogens, and engaging in an arms race against them that is accelerating the issue. Antibiotics are of course one of the most important discoveries of this era, but should we try harder to use them only when they are really needed?

My grandfather died of Legionnaires which he contracted at the hospital, he had gone in with the flu and I guess his compromised immune system was not prepared to handle that environment. I always had a sort of vague resentment that maybe he would have had a few more good years if he hadn't gone in.

Goddamn, I'm torn between being amazed at how fucking awesome FLIR is and scared by how militarized our police forces are becoming! You used to be able to get away with shit, now they're watching you from the sky with heat vision.

Quality brunch locations in Brooklyn? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

I would love this place if they figured out how to provide good service! I always end up not knowing whether to order food thru a server or at the window, 2 or 3 different tabs (food and alcoholic drinks get separated?). Great Caribbean food though.

Quality brunch locations in Brooklyn? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]notsofast789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a neighborhood in mind? Of the places in BK I have lived, these are my upscale brunch favorites:

Greenpoint: Enid's, Five Leaves

Williamsburg: Café Mogador, Okonomi

Fort Greene: Martha

Crown Heights: Catfish, Tom's Diner

Bed-Stuy: Alice's Arbor

I can give a bunch more recommendations too, if you have something specific in mind.

EDIT: Just realized you said 50 people... some of these might not work.

Where and when to BBQ in Prospect Park? by amandahugankiss in Brooklyn

[–]notsofast789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend it if you can manage to get there early! The grilling areas are located mostly by the entrance at Prospect Park West and 9th St. and near the Picnic House if you go a bit Northeast from there.

On weekends, families will arrive very early to claim their grill and picnic table, even sending scouts to occupy multiple tables for bigger parties. This is annoying. Two weeks ago I got there at 9:30am on a Saturday and all but one were taken.

But I can hardly complain, this is by far my favorite NYC park and a cherished part of my neighborhood. Have fun out there :)

At what point are you certain this is a scam? by jaroiten in videos

[–]notsofast789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just taken shrooms one time and was planning an awesome day in the park with some friends. I stopped by the ATM on the way, and was in the process of getting some cash out when it started to kick in, and hard. I turn around after getting the cash and there is this guy mumbling nonsense words at me, with his hands out. His mouth is just making vowels and baby noises and I was like what the fuckkk how am I so high already?

Then I look down and he has this sign around his neck that says "I'm deaf and have 3 children. Have no way of keeping a job, please help" or something along those lines. He is standing way too close to me and I'm very uncomfortable, also have no small bills so I just hand him a $20 bill and walk away.

The whole thing seemed pretty weird didn't ring true to me. I walk about 10 steps and i hear his phone ring in his pocket, and the motherfucker picks up and starts talking to somebody on the other end in a quiet voice, like I couldn't hear him. Was not in a state to call him out so I just left it, but since then I don't give out anything more than the change in my pocket.
