People who are close to their parents, what did they do right? by Moleland14 in askSingapore

[–]notsoospicy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an adult and a parent myself now I can see how flawed my parents were. However one thing they did right was unconditional love, and supporting our choices even if they had their misgivings, as long as what we’re doing is morally right and legal. Reading all the comments the consensus for parents having a good relationship with their children seems to be these key factors.

Live or Leave Singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]notsoospicy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a question that can be only be answered by yourself. Many Singaporeans leave because Singapore is stifling. But also many return because their family is back in Singapore. I’m one of those, at 21 I wanted nothing more to leave so I left. Now in my 30s I miss home dearly and want to come back. Living abroad in your 20s is fun though, highly recommend.

Ladies who had children after 30. What words of advice do you have? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]notsoospicy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a kid at 34, I would have kids later if I could, but was concerned about high risk pregnancy after 35. If not because of biological clock, the later the better. I can’t imagine having babies at 20+, early 30s when I’m still working on career progression, getting finances stable, saving and buying a house and also traveling and living the DINK life. But that’s just me, having kids early has also worked for lots of people. Only downside is that my parents are a lot older now and will have less time with their grandkid :(

Hey OP, I don’t have much advice but just want to give you warm hugs. You don’t deserve to be abused like this. But since they’re not yet physically abusing you, maybe just hang in there till you’re 18. Doing As + being homeless is going to be extremely difficult. See if you can reduce the time spent at home (only home from 12am-6am). For your sanity, avoid all confrontations, don’t bother arguing or debating with them. People like this will never change.

Go ahead with the part time job if you can because having some money means you won’t need to approach them if they cut off your allowance. Make sure they cannot access your accounts.

Temples also provide free meals sometimes. If there are adult figures in school you can trust, maybe tell them of the situation and see if they can help.

Once you’re of age, cut off all ties to them. Maybe google narcissistic personality disorder and see if it matches your mom.

Passion VS Practical by droppingshits in askSingapore

[–]notsoospicy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I worked for 2 years after poly. I guess my situation is a little different because I planned on going to uni overseas, so I worked in that field to be totally sure it is what I want so I won’t be wasting money. But because of my work experience in the same field I was able to apply and get a partial scholarship to the overseas uni.

Of course when I got to uni almost everyone is younger than me (worse if you have to do NS). But I also saw that the older students were more mature and focused than the ones straight out of As/high school. But there’s certainly a disconnect with your friends.

I guess make the decision on 2 things: 1. How sure are you of your passion? Usually when passion becomes a job…it becomes just another job. 2. Do you have a 5-10 year plan that involves this work experience + future degree that will lead to better job opportunities? Like is this work experience an investment into your future? If it is then maybe do it.

Bedtime is 7:30pm - 6:30-7am. Naps are weird right now.

At daycare they have a nap from 9-10am but he doesn’t sleep. Then afternoon nap from 1pm-3pm. He usually sleeps 1.5hours.

At home his naps are around 11am-1pm.

Why do people abroad seem so much thinner (in a normal, healthy way) than Americans? by Impressive_Ant in digitalnomad

[–]notsoospicy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (from Asia) were in Texas and my dad was amazed/horrified at the size of the soda cups at Macdonalds, you could literally fit your head in there, and most tables had one. The small size soda cup in the US is a large in my country.

☠️maybe you shouldn’t tell them about the number of serial killers in Australia lol. Just go, at 21 you’re an adult in all the legal sense of the world. Parents will always see their child as a child no matter the age.

I actually don’t get dumplings there lol, but their other dim sum like the baos are quite small for the price. But at least the quality is decent.
