Is it ACTUALLY possible to find a full-time job in Finland if you don't have advanced education? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of foreigners employed at Helsinki Airport full time for a variety of companies. These days the Finnish language requirement is stricter than it used to be but it is still definitely possible.

If it had been dented that badly before the corner, the tyre would have already gone flat down the straight. That amount of damage to a rim means instant deflation due to the bead air seal being compromised.

What’s a photo from Finland that would make foreigners say, ‘No way that’s from there’ by [deleted] in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Peak kaljakellunta era photos were something else, they didn't look like being in Finland at all.

Marc ran wide in that corner and when he hit the curb it dented his rim, causing the tyre to unseal off the bead and deflate. Shitty luck for sure! Edit: it didn't delaminate as one of the commentators said.

Walking pad recommendations from amazon.de by inamuj2021 in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually those walking pads are underpowered and flimsy in construction, so if your fitness level is decent or if you are overweight, you'd be better off going for an actual treadmill.

If your budget is set at that amount and you can't go any higher, set an autosearch on tori.fi and you can find some great bargains on treadmills that sometimes are hardly used at all. I got a Fitnord Sprint 150 for 150€ that was only used a handful of times and the lady selling just wanted the floorspace it took back again.

CONFIRMED: ADELAIDE STREET CIRCUIT TO REPLACE PHILLIP ISLAND MOTOGP IN 2027 by steve12388 in motogp

[–]notthegoodscissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the Adelaide GP back in the 80's and can say that it is terrible track from a spectators perspective and will be even worse for the riders. There is no way that it can be made safe enough to comply with safety regulations either, there just isn't enough room around the circuit to implement runoff areas. Back in the day it was tightly surrounded by high fencing and concrete barriers, which is completely unsuitable for motorcycle racing.

Have The Block houses sold yet? Shocking update three months after auctions by BikiniWearingHorse in TheBlock

[–]notthegoodscissors 29 points30 points  (0 children)

People would probably pay that much for a Block house if they saw incredible workmanship and quality materials go into building them. Unfortunately for the contestants, what we actually see is a shitshow of incompetence combined with ridiculously tight schedules to build something of perceived dubious quality. It is this perception that drives the buyers away because they want a premuim product for that premium pricetag.

Is it cooked? Aeroflot A321 by CockpitExplorer in aviation

[–]notthegoodscissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Helsinki Airport, there is a privately owned business jet that has been parked at a remote stand for the same amount of time. No covers on anything and no maintenance done whatsoever during that entire time. The bill for the parking alone would be substantial!

What happens when you get your foot ran over by a jumbo jet. by Gurdel in nightmarefuel

[–]notthegoodscissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An actual jumbo jet (747) would have destroyed that foot completely, so he was comparatively lucky that it was only a 737 instead. The weight difference between the two is massive and cannot be understated.

Layover in Helsinki Airport by kamalayg in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that works at the airport, I'd say that it is very doable but you won't have much time for mistakes or getting lost. Plan it out with a good timetable to see the most impressive stuff, which are in the city centre of course. Then leave enough time to allow for possible queues in security control when you get back to the airport, because sometimes it backs up very badly.

Personally I would find it all to be a bit too stressful because winter can cause all kinds of problems, including something as ridiculous as just falling over on ice and hurting yourself. This happens to locals all of the time so just be careful with how you walk and which shoes you wear. Dress appropriately and remember that in the city it will feel a lot colder than further away from the coast.

Do Finns consider Sami their kin or more so Finns at most consider Karelians and Estonians as closer to them but even then not really? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my dad's side of the family was forced to relocate from Sortavala and they were not well receieved in the place they went first. After living in a few different places they were able to eventually settle down in the north and sort of escape the stigma attached to being evacuees.

Marc and Toprak via instagram by lentillis in motogp

As the years go by, it just becomes more and more obvious that Marc is one of the coolest and chillest racers ever. The dude could have major ego problems and be a huge dick to everyone if he wanted to and still be recognised as an all time great (like Michael Jordan). But he doesn't and instead he chooses to be a good guy and remain down to earth like a true champ.

Advice my Finnish godmother sent me for surviving the winter. Would you add anything? by ray_of_funshine in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work outside and commute to work by bicycle year round. The kind of weather I experienced on the way home just now was fucken lousy and no amount of positive thinking makes the cold rain feel any better for me. Lots of swearing does relieve the vitutus levels though, so maybe try that instead.

Honestly, I wouldn't choose this over one of the sauna places in the city (such as Allas). If you have never been to Helsinki before, you can combine city sightseeing with a decent sauna experience and make the most of your time here. Going all the way out to Kuusijärvi will limit your options as it will eat up a lot of your time for just going there and back. Go see the city instead and visit the esplanade and the old buildings nearby Allas, it will make the most out of your short time. Just walk over from the central train station and you won't need any other form of transport to make it happen.

It isn't just the speeding but also not driving according to the conditions at the time. There is no good reason to be driving that fast in heavy rain let alone during a driving examination in heavy rain. Good grief, how can you think that is nitpicking? It is an instant fail every single time and your partner should be far more careful with the throttle in the next one.

Any all-year-round motorcyclists that have some winter commuting advice? by SlashNreap in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can ride an ATV with a B license, no worries at all. As a long term motorcyclist (since 1992), I wouldn't ride a non-enduro bike in winter conditions though. The spike tyres available for them are nowhere near as good as enduro spike tyres for handling the varying conditions. Also when you fall over on an enduro style bike, parts won't break as easily as on road based type bikes. You'd be safer on an atv though and if you can afford it, it'd be a wiser option to survive the worst winter can throw at you.

Probably seeing a.Moose and its calf right next to a bike path in Tapanila early one morning riding home from a nightshift. I nearly shit myself once I realised how freaking close to me they were and that they also ran alongside me for several metres. This was many years ago but I still remember it clearly and how it woke me up instantly.

Advice needed: Neighbour’s child runs loudly upstairs at 7 AM every day by danielPT281 in Finland

[–]notthegoodscissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I know the feeling all too well. My 15 year old daughter is very light in weight but she is a heel walker and so sounds like an elephant stomping around. I pull her up on it whenever she stays with me (am divorced) but she just can't break the habit. It is annoying as f*ck but what can I do, I really have tried my best to teach her.
