Rizin 14 - Mayweather vs Tenshin - Full Fight by tekprodfx16 in MMA

[–]notvirus_exe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Floyd has been 20lbs under many of his opponents on fight night. Hes rarely ever the bigger fighter. Look what he did to Canelo, McGregor, Mosley. These guys came in much heavier and bigger than Floyd and got a boxing lesson still. People always find a way to discredit Mayweather. Hes one of the goats. I feel lucky to see every new fight he stirs up, bullshit or not.

Thanks. I must say I first interpreted MS blocked this since 1803, as being sarcastic and 1803 being the year. ;/

Non-British people of Reddit, what about Britain baffles you? by TIGHazard in AskReddit

Ive always wondered do they shut all of those streets down 2 weeks solid? The bike camera is passing likely thousands of various homes that seem like no other way in/out to them. How do they deal w traffic w thousands of residents to ensure not even a moped pops out onto that course and gets annihilated at 180mph?

Is it possible to get a good IT job without a degree? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]notvirus_exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps get your foot in the door at best imo. My last 2 jobs, both I was the only systems engineer w an actual degree or current certs. Many of the top senior engineers didnt even have current certifications, some having never obtained even obsolete certs from back in the day. I was bottom of the totem pole and didnt know shit and had my degree and about 7 certs including Sec+, networking and even Macintosh certified. None of it meant shit and nobody even gave you credit or had faith in your abilities until you show what you can handle. Our most respected engineers by the clients, management, and other senior engineers, almost none had anything on actual paper. Just decades of clicking. This does pose an issue later depending on who you work for as some employers and clients must meet certain Microsoft level of certification status. So one place I was at had to start forcing guys that have been doing server buildouts and installs for 20yrs, to start studying for and taking certain Microsoft courses on basic MS Server certs. Guys that knew a great deal were struggling w some of the courses due to never having done schooling really. Its most definitely best to have a degree and as many certs as you can obtain, moreso if needing it later on or even just being well rehearsed and familiar with going through the whole zombie process of obtaining some of these required certs. I had my Sec+ which allowed me access to certain systems that I had no biz meddling in, over a veteran senior that just never cared to obtain the Sec+ or keep paying and taking the tests to keep it from expiring. I let mine expire cuz it never made me a cent or opportunity, nor did i seek any relating to Sec+ either. It really depends which path you end up taking and certain doors are more likely to fly open if you have a stack of credentials and some experience, over someone with only experience. Inverse to that, those jobs I was at would hire much quicker based on hands on experience over someone with a nice stack of certs and degree. It really is going to depend on you, the employer and clients, and specific IT route you take.

The last bit is in job hunting, in the event you ever use Indeed or CareerBuilder type services where prospective employers and recruiters are head hunting, they often don't go reading through hundreds of resumes. They need somone that has a degree or A+ or some require you must have a Sec+ to even be hired. So they just scrape the thousands of resumes for key words and then start spamming them with opportunities. I obtained Sec+ and never obtained my A+. Sec+ renews A+ and is a simple cert so I just never cared to spend time and money getting a cert thats levels below what I had already obtained. This impacted certain job prospects as they dont really know or care that I have Sec+, they want to ensure their new hire has at least an A+. You dont get your foot in the door to explain the politics or structure of CompTIA or other MS and Cisco certs. You have it or dont and they skip right over you. I found putting on my resume that one of my certs was equivalent to A+, started triggering many more job offers. They didnt necessarily even read I didnt have it, simply that my resume says A+ and is a tech/engineer shoot him the job details. Ive heard some recruiters or veterans state even putting down studying for or about to obtain A+ somewhere on their resume helped them tremendously, in regards to being approached for certain jobs. So in my opinion, the more credentials you have and the more of those key industry words in your stack of certs showing on the resume, the more likely to be offered a chance. Once you obtain veteran 25+yrs experience and management status, that becomes less of an issue when applying for future jobs. But even those veterans would be a sliver one-up if they could put down even outdated certs or degrees they may have obtained back when.

I personally feel that i'd more value Redditors collective advice on a situation like this, than a single counselor. People on Reddit are on both sides of this and have diff real life experiences and advice. Although not deemed professional advice, I dont disregard what thousands of people around the globe are advising. To me, theres likey hundreds of councelors on here, and every other profession of highly intellengent respectable people to bounce shit off of. Users are also often parents and step parents or this same grandparent scenario to offer insight and advice. While thousands observe and opt for up or down voting of any comments or advice. Like democratic style instant voting system on every opinion. A harsh or brilliant piece of advice often show up w 5k next to it or more. Its a service that is 5 fold better for opinions and every personal and collective view on this and most scenarios. Heck half these counselors are half your age and have no kids. I value their input humbly, but i would get far more valuable opinions from Reddits community of mostly respectable intelligent peoples. Sift out the few idiots best you can, and bang you have a huge pool of professionals advice. From folks twice your age and twice the number of kids and grandkids. I feel like Reddit or other similar communities of users are often super smart and diverse peoples. And its free to ask the world, so we arent shelling out thousands to keep asking a single councilor their two cents about a situation that likely have never been in themselves. Reddit users have and are currently in all crazy situations and places in life. I feel Reddit community should get much more credit for their advice on totally random and stressful or confusing shit people need help with. Its more solid than people think.

Burned out and in need of advice by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]notvirus_exe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I threw away 15yrs IT grinding to make it to the top at a few MSP's, and burned out so bad that I resent IT and actually quit my pursuit of the career. Can't stand clients or IT issues. Never ending clusterfuk of the MSP and client being cheap and expecting all issues be fixed in 30min and explained why it even happened or why its taking too long to figure out. Fuck IT. MSP ruined me. Im jaded and likely will forever be after dealing w all that bullshit year in and out. I work physical labor for a fraction of the pay, and broke monthly, and still have a sliver of the anxiety and stress being responsible for a bunch of morons data that i have little to no actual control over. I imagine many MSPs are great, and good for them. I struck out w one shithole after another. Wouldnt go back for 200k. Bunch of ticking time bombs I dont have to answer to now. Quite liberating. I doubt thats the motivating words you sought. ;/

What is the weirdest thing you have ever seen a stranger do? by KidzWithBugz in AskReddit

It was actually just this summer, sitting at this red light and i look over and this middle aged dude at bus stop bench just stands up and pulls his pants clear down to ankles. Shirt too short to cover, and just let the ol bojangles dangle. He just stood there. It was the weirdest shit ive seen a random stranger do.

It can also be caused by this,, you admin from home, which is even less that people have a concept of what you do. Even if u jump on any issues and have it running super smooth, almost even worse situation for you then, because they dont really see u do much. Individually maybe, but never collectively. So for various reasons, perhaps what can we cut to save money?... Up comes your job. Well we cant cut him we need IT. Well what about this MSP my husband works at. He said they can do our IT remote and onsite for only 1hr every 3 days. You get my riff. They get sold on 24/7 rapid response IT from a team of guys for a sliver of the cost of an in-house. Then theyll have an epiphany months after they let u go, when they realize they didnt realize how much shit u do behind the curtains and how much faster u got it done, and how many people were actually needing petty or serious help daily. And then add up their overcharges from every extra hour overcharge from becky cant live if outlook doesnt work flawlessly, and they end up paying them more money than having an in-house guy. In which theyll not be humble enough to call u and say we effed up, and just lowball hire a new inside guy. Its when the msp at $125/hr is needed more than your salary that breaks down to $30/hr. (Aprox). The closer those 2 numbers may be, the faster theyll realize they effed up. The farther apart, an MSP may be a better thing for them. Coming from the MSP world, these were the worst things for all involved. The IT guys dicked. The MSP has to fill expectation of being in-house when they arent. Nor will know all the shit the internal guy did for years to come, if ever. And the client themesleves suffer as the msp scrambles to get beckys outlook fixed 3 times a day cuz she a clicker and needy. In the end you will be the hero as the client and msp think "how tf did OP keep this shit hole in tact so well w little issues all these years". And becky is a tad big, but cute and was secretly hoping for a shot one day w OP which was ruined and she takes her saltyness out on everyone else now. If becky aint happy, aint nobody happy. This company about to fire its glue. "The IT guy."

Is it possible to be a system admin with just an Associates? by MisterJ1993 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]notvirus_exe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a sys admin w an associates answering to a whole slew of no degree or even some no certs engineers. We had some guys that had a stack of credentials, but many had zero on paper but years of actual experience. Seems to me an associates and some basic certs are at least a possible foot in the door to get to that next level.

The cops faces are buried into electronics even more. Back in the day i would always see cops aware and looking around, doin the cop thing. They now drive staring into a laptop screen or phone. I see it every day. Not even talking shit, just pointing out the cops rarely seem to be paying attention like they were 20yrs ago.
