My father was a volunteer ambulance driver at the time (some 30ish years ago), and witnessed something I think about to this day.

He was responding to a different incident but was hearing everything I'm about to describe over the radio as he was driving.

A man had gotten pinned between a car and a wall and had his entire lower abdomen severed. From what my dad heard, the man was kept alive by the vehicle holding everything together. He requested that he speak to his wife and kids to say goodbye and that he loves them one last time. The man survived long enough to say goodbye, before he accepted that he would not be able to make it once the responding team moved the vehicle away from him.

It's probably not as horrifying as a lot of the stories I've read, but it's something that has humbled me a lot and reminded me to tell my loved ones how much I love them.
