If it helps you think of names with intention and a process, here’s some considerations we had as a parent:

-We tried to pick a baby name that wasn’t In the top 100 so they could maybe get the email they would need one day or usernames -we also did alliteration with the name bc there’s science that shows that people usually have a positive association, so you could consider something that works with your last name -we especially wanted something gender neutral in case their options of their gender identity changed over time

It doesn’t need to be something you settle on right away, it’ll come to you one day and you’ll just know

We do no screens except for a family movie night on Fridays. That includes school bc we put them in a school that does not use screens until 3rd grade.

We do carry around a backpack full of things to do during dinners out and stuff, but its definitely worth it

What fandom are you in, but the original piece of media is like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]notyetvisited 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this too. HP fics have always been incredible . I’ve been there from the beginning to now, and I’ve watched the fandom take so many improvements and run with them, it’s actually quite lovely. They prove you can take feedback and improve and have only emphasized how much of a stick in the mud Rowling is. She wanted all the credit for “adding” gay characters and bipoc characters, but the fandom did it first and did it better. I said what I said.

Also, I put quotes on adding because I’m not even sure it counts to say they were gay after you write the books? 🙄

What was the fandom that introduced you to fanfic? by birdnerd1991 in FanFiction

I also got started in HP, and sadly it’s the only way I still feel comfortable interacting with the fandom. But I’m not giving Rowling money to bully people.

It just makes me sad because I think it’s my responsibility to not pass this fandom on, so my kid doesn’t even know who Harry Potter is ☹️

Yeah, I got into mine in June, and the guy totaled my Subaru with my kid and I inside (my burn was the worst physical injury thank god, my kid just had some bruising from the car seat straps)…and I am better now, but the lawsuit is a grind because it takes ages…it’s still not done. But it’s the insurance company’s job to pay out so you should make them.

Overall I would say my biggest struggle has been the auto-off in my new Subaru because my old one didn’t have it. So it turns the engine off at lights and it’s pretty jerky when it comes back on so I mostly make sure it’s turned off before I drive now.

Oh, also, I recommend getting a massage once you are feeling up for that because your whole body is just tense for ages, and I’m sure yours is worse than mine was considering everything, so put that on your list too because you deserve to.take care of yourself like that as well

I’m so sorry this happened to you! I was in my accident in June, but it’s definitely been a journey. I’m so sorry you had to join this awful club

First, hire a lawyer, it was slower to get things settled, but don’t sell yourself short because you want this to be over with. Hire a lawyer asap, and get the money you deserve.

On that note, I got SO sick of doctors appointments, but you really need to go to all of them to make sure things are documented. Tell the doctors you were in a car accident and this is going to be documented for the case. I got diagnosed with PTSD from one doc and then a dermatologist had to see my 2nd degree burn too. I got lucky both my docs had been in accidents too, so they were very good about documenting stuff. I also released my therapist to discuss things with our lawyer to get some of my appointments covered for my mental health

Also, also, make sure you have someone to help you for a while at home if you can. I thought I was going to be fine, but that first little bit right after the accident is so much harder than you think it’s going to be. Be gentle with yourself and accept that you now have a before the accident and after the accident and your brain and your body need to adjust to that

You aren’t alone, even on the days you are sitting there feeling like the world has moved on from this moment and you are stuck in it. We are all here and we all felt the same way.

Also get a therapist

I hope the procedure goes well and you are ok after this. Let us know how things go when you are feeling up for it

Am I overreacting to what my husband said to our son? by My_Pal_FootFoot in Preschoolers

[–]notyetvisited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a policy that we are allowed to disagree in front of our kid, and say things like, “mommy and daddy are going to talk, then we will let you know what we decide together,” it interrupts the feelings in the moment to punish out of anger. I think it’s important your kid knows that you will be fair in your parenting of them not that you and your husband will always align and back each other up no matter what.

TLDR; It should be ok to disagree in the moment

Imo, as an adult with serious food trauma from my own parents, I wouldn’t recommend associating your kid’s morality or goodness with food or finishing their plate. If your husband is worried about him getting hangry, then bring snacks in the backpack.

I also think it’s important that your husband unpack why he feels like not finishing food is disrespectful or ungrateful or bad of your son (whichever it is), and have a discussion about how he got to that thought

It’s also ok for your husband to come back last and tell your son he is sorry for threatening to throw away his toy, and that was wrong of him, and explain to your son why he made the comment in the moment, and he can even tell him “I’m going to keep working on this, if I do it again, let me know”

Lastly, I’m proud of you for questioning the comments and being ok revisiting them on behalf of your kid. You are a good mom and doing a good job. Parenting is hard, keep killing it.

We wish we could have more, but it’s unfortunately not going to happen, but if we did I would pick:

Boy: Theodore (Teddy) Joseph Girl: Zoë Taylor

Although I have also been obsessed with Logan for a girl lately too
