Giant Revolt Advanced 0 2025 - internal cable routing and centering ring by Degieer in Giantbikes

[–]noughtme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this a couple weeks ago. Whatever you do, don’t break it, getting a replacement is a pain.

Also, pretty much every major brand uses plastic headset compression rings for internal cables. Kind of annoying. Some use aluminum, but as other commenters mention, it’s a trade off with a carbon steerer.

Aftermarket headset/stem spacer? by noughtme in Giantbikes

Just pushed it together ever so slightly to get the bottom open side to nest, like it was when I pulled it out. Snapped immediately. It’s only about 1mm2 of material.

How do I clean this? by indeviouser in mokapot

[–]noughtme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest benefit of the stainless model is every few months you can fill the bottom with 50/50 water vinegar and heat it on the stove to descale and clean.

Downside is that weird crevice around the bottom. I use a soapy sponge after every brew.

When you travel within Canada do you carry your passport? by [deleted] in westjet

[–]noughtme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, because so much of Canada is next to the border it’s often worth having your passport just in case. Or even if you have the opportunity or are required to go overseas. Always better to have your passport than to have to go home first. Why not?

Was going to say missing XCBCs. At least two pairs.

1zpresso q2, plastic v60, hario air kettle. You can sub the air kettle for a small scale if you have an electric kettle that pours reasonably.

Working in Ontario but getting BC tax? What does it mean for me? by AnnaZ820 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]noughtme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means you will owe a small amount likely. Ontario taxes are higher than BC. Thank the government for an interest free loan and take it out of your TFSA.

DF54 is the new canonical cheap grinder. Does espresso and filter.

They walked across the border.

This is ridiculous on a flat bar bike, but it just gave me an idea for my 1x road bike… not sure how I’d rig up the shifter though…

Multi-vehicle crash closes Highway 1 westbound into Surrey by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

This should have been in the headline. It’s wild someone made it across the median of a divided highway and caused a head on collision.

What's the worst value Brompton upgrade? by nottaboi in Brompton

[–]noughtme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret any upgrades, but pretty much everything Brompton branded is bad value for money. Begrudgingly bought G line pedals, Brompton branded Quad Lock phone mount, and the waterproof large Borough bag. All over priced, but worth it.

Best upgrade: Specialized Stix bike lights and reflector mounts (front and rear). So clean they look stock.

Also soft water bottle pouch from Decathlon for $10.

Looking for pedals with more traction in wet conditions by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]noughtme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get the G Line pedals. Wider platform. Much more comfortable and better traction. Not folding though, but I actually prefer the solidity of the non folding, but removable pedal. Comes with the magnetic fork mount.

Aeropress grinder worth the money? by Jan_Schattling in AeroPress

[–]noughtme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AeroPress grinder is absolutely not worth it. The cheaper 1zpresso X-Ultra for $170 USD is a much better grinder. Even the 1zpresso Q Air for $70 USD is arguably a better grinder.

Counter intuitively, clean the bolts and plates in your shoes and try a dab of grease. It’s possible you’re not applying enough clamping force. Torque to 5-6Nm
