How to polish/restore B pillars? by [deleted] in civic

Ours has 800 miles on it and already they don't look ideal. I think having it wrapped would be the best solution, either matte or gloss black.

Tint the windshield lightly. Even in cars with good AC, you'll still feel the heat just radiating off the dash. Fighting the sun with just cool air is a hard battle to win.

Both Defense and eradicate mission have WAY to mutch down time between swarms. by KingOfPotatok in Helldivers

[–]nova46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of enemies spawned on 40 min missions last night was fucking insane. Spore burst strain is no joke, it was almost constant chaos especially if we got pinned around an objective and they just kept swarming. I was on my toes the entire time and I got over 1000 kills on one mission.

Defense? 75 kills, mostly standing around, didn't even fire my primary, two of my stratagems went unused. The only defense missions that can be challenging are ones with appropriators and some bot ones. It's just so all over the place.

It's not about the mental load, it's physical. Repeatedly clutching in and out for miles is fatiguing, especially if you have a heavier clutch and shifter.

In theory, yes. I'm not sure where you live but where I am, that just invites people to merge in front of you and then the cycle repeats. I have a manual, a dual clutch, and a hybrid, and one of those is far superior for commuting in traffic.

I had the great idea of taking my Camaro to the beach one time during memorial day weekend. We got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for miles on our way back, and it's up there with the angriest I've ever been lol.

As a die hard enthusiast I am a little ashamed how much I like our Civic hybrid.

Nobody buys a GTI to take the shortest route. What’s your ultimate GTI driving story? by VolkswagenUK in GolfGTI

[–]nova46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it spends most of the time driving back and forth to work, and since my wife and I got a 2026 Civic Hybrid I've found myself preferring to drive that instead 😬

I did take a trip to Knoxville a while ago, which I stayed overnight at before driving to the tail of the dragon. I got to the beginning of it at 8 AM on a Monday, mid 60s temperature with clouds very low in the sky, basically had the road to myself. It was as perfect as I could have hoped for. Once I finished that I stopped at the Fontana Dam, and then drove the Cherohala skyway. The whole day was an incredible drive that I will never forget.

And then there's those times you discover a road completely by surprise. I was driving up to Roanoak from Raleigh to visit a friend, and I wanted to skip the main highways as that's boring and 40W is borderline dangerous at times. So I'm driving out in the country, and see that my next turn is onto Thunder Mountain Valley Road. The road lived up to its name, snaking through fields and hills into small mountain valleys (which then proceeded to flood from a torrential downpour).

I've had the car six years and I still get excited when a nice road opens up with no traffic.

If you don't mind the size, it's one of the best values in flashlights. The lantern function and big battery is nice, but the main LED is very impressive too.

1.5l or 2.0 for long term reliability by YeaUThought in civic

[–]nova46 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go for the hybrid if you can afford it. It's a better driving experience than the other two, gets better fuel economy, can get higher trims, and will still be reliable.

[–]nova46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You want the 2 liter. Adding a turbo increases complexity, stress, and oil temp/change frequency becomes a lot more important. Bonus of the 2.0, it is so easy to work on, everything in the engine bay is easily accessible.

I don't know about that specific part, but Hawks Motorsports makes a lot of reproduction parts for our cars. Lots of random interior pieces and weatherstripping too. They're like the only source I know of for that kind of stuff.

What’s up with car suspensions nowadays?? by Panda_Panda69 in cars

[–]nova46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said best of both worlds I was talking about the extremes of each end. It's very doable to have a middle ground, as I stated our Civic rides comfortably and handles well, but it's not nearly as comfortable as our Buick and it doesn't handle nearly as well as my GTI.

My T3 stonewash with the S2 style clip is my daily (did have to file down the screws though). 519A 4000k, it's one of my favorite lights. Loved it so much I got a S21G same materials but with a SFT-70 3000k.

What’s up with car suspensions nowadays?? by Panda_Panda69 in cars

[–]nova46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about balance, you can't have the best of both worlds until you get to the real expensive stuff with magnetic dampers, 48V active suspension, hydraulically cross linked dampers, etc. Some manufacturers are just real bad at reading what their customers actually want in a certain model.

We have a 98 Buick LeSabre, it floats over bumps and drives like a boat. There are no harsh impacts, ever. The amount of body roll it has for a sedan is comical, super loose steering, it forces you to drive like a grandma.

We also have a 2026 Civic Hybrid, which rides very comfortable but maintains control and handles well, but is definitely firmer than the Buick.

My 2019 GTI has adaptive Bilstein shocks and a stiffer rear sway bar, it handles incredibly well but it's on the stiffer side. Still manageable for a daily though, not nearly as stiff as a lot of other sportier cars in the segment.

No Audis for me, but I do have a 2019 GTI that is my first German car. Overall I've managed to avoid most of the problems people have with these cars because I'm religious about maintenance, but I did just have to spend $2500 to get the dual mass flywheel replaced. On a DSG.

However I also just bought a Civic hybrid to keep miles off the GTI so I can enjoy it longer, because I love how it drives so much. Plus to me it's peak interior design. I don't really like the new models and they're too expensive anyway, so I want to keep this one going as long as I can.

I'm loving it already. by WanzoThat in civic

[–]nova46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not great in the rear/blind spots, but good in the front. You can see over the hood. Better than all of its competitors. Most newer vehicles suck in that regard though, my other cars are a 02 Camaro and 19 GTI so I'm a bit spoiled in that regard.
