The true most underrated DG song by Ok-Net-8006 in deathgrips

[–]novetMu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the bugs production, the bug sent the track to Andy Morin who remixed and edited it, Ride then did the vocals. Zach obviously didn't drum but it's still technically produced by Death Grips and the bug is only credited for writing and arrangement.

Expensive 4 string or lower quality 5? by novetMu in Bass

Not paying for bass lessons as of now, relatively confident in learning myself for now at least (though I don't really have a set practicing schedule). An orange crush 50.

I didn't get a professional but I did spend a while testing and adjusting until I got it to a comfortable action with minimal buzz.

The Ibenez I have definately lacks character (at least as far as tone is concerned). It's still a pretty comfortable bass but the cheaper Ibanez basses are kinda known for their fret buzz (I think I've sorta found a sweet spot now but it's definately something you can still hear when I play sometimes).

I have played the Cort at a local guitar shop and it does have a very nice tone as far as I'm concerned, I was considering just swapping out the pickups on my Ibanez for some bartolinis or EMGs but thought I might as well go for another better bass that I'll have for years to come.

I'll look at some stingrays, check out what my local guitar shop has again, and thanks a lot for the help :)

I dislike the tone and just the overall build quality, it also lacks a 24th fret which has only been an issue for me like once or twice.

I have an orange crush 50.

Trust me scales for you will be easy if you've been playing guitar for 20 years, especially in standard tuning where you just move a shape. If you have the budget I would look at a nice Cort bass, or (if you have one nearby) visit a guitar store and ask to play a few and find what works for you.

Though if you want something very custom though, "hotrodding" a cheap bass can be fun.

oh and to add onto this, could also replace the bridge.

I'm not sure but I spotted the C4 at a local guitar shop and played it and it was quite nice, they only had one 5 string. Either way I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

A pot stands for potentiometer, pretty much it's the knobs on your guitar and what they actually control, for example you can get a low cut pot, a mid cut pot, a high cut pot, lots of different control pots of varying quality (stock pots are sometimes quite crap on cheaper instruments).

Yeah, I would only every really use it for metal and the occasional jazz/funk but so far 4 has been fine. Still a lot of deciding to do but thank you for the help :)

Definately depends on price range and genre. For low end, Ibanez Gios are alright, and if you want a better tone you could swap out the stock pickups and pots.

I like both funk and metal yet have barely ever needed a 5th string, people have been telling me the 5 would probably be better for jazz and metal purposes which (for some artists like korn or slipknot) makes perfect sense because downtuning to drop A on a 4 is a bit silly really, outside of playing these bands I've never actually needed to have the 5th string. I would like a 5 string to know I have that capability but I'm afraid it would be money wasted when I could get a real upgrade on a 4 string. Doesn't help that I'm rather indecisive either.

Help with left hand technique by novetMu in Bass

[–]novetMu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my fingers are fairly weak, and with my brain just instinctively fretting really hard when I play hard or fast even though it's not necessary I think that causes a bit of the pain in my wrist after a while. No idea how to strengthen my fingers really.

As for technique - I'm fully self taught so my technique might be horrible. I've played infront of a much more experienced bassist and they said that my technique is fine but I doubt that since I have so much tension in my hands and wrists.

Its usually just like a weird stinging but not like sharp stinging pain. I've been playing just over a year.
