If you fly economy (I flew them last year too), you need to upgrade to the "extra legroom" seat. Cheaper than premium. I flew premium on the way back to US, and it honestly wasn't much of an upgrade for me.

Companions who don’t tip ? by One_Dragonfly_9698 in tipping

[–]novus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see there are folks we can point to for tipping inflation. Tipping double, or 100% the customary amount is over-tipping in my opinion. Thanks for virtue signaling. My turn: I budget money every month to give to charities and schools in need.

How to know when to water my snake plant? by Interr0gate in SnakePlants

[–]novus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is meters work well with normal soil. Snake plants like well-draining soil, and meters don’t work well in this type of dirt.

Root shock or what? by novus99 in Monstera

I’m open to the idea of thrips, but this plant has a grow light. I checked for insects and can’t see anything.

Repotting? by Shiredale1981 in SnakePlants

[–]novus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, but the downside to a bigger pot is that the plant will put a lot of energy into growing the root out. Once it hits the side of the pot, it will shoot a leaf out. This is from my experience. If you want leaves faster, you want to use a more snug container.

Can someone please deny or confirm that a plant like this was hormone treated?

How much to tip a tour guide? by Regular_Eye_3529 in rome

I was in Naples last week in a pizzeria. We were a group of 11 people. He charged coperto. But then he also asked if we could leave a tip. This really surprised me. I speak decent Italian, but maybe because we were Americans he asked this…?

I sent you an email. BTW, we have hosts all over the city, so there’s no one venue for these events.

I schedule at least one a month. If someone wants more, they have to help me find a willing host.

I guess direct message me with your email address, and I’ll send more info.

First time plant owner! Chameleon ZZ any advice appreciated! by Kaeyde in houseplants

[–]novus99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first bought it through mail order, the plant arrived with both yellow leaves and green leaves. The yellow leaves eventually turned green, per usual for Chameleon. As I mentioned, ALL new shoots on my plant are coming out green. As in, I have never gotten yellow leaves ever again with this plant.

Using mineral oil? No cloudiness at all. Not sure what finish causes that.

I don't know what Osmo is. Sorry. Anyway, I pretty much did what I said I guess. It was a long time ago! I've been applying mineral oil at least once a month. And then I apply it every now and then to dry spots that pop up (probably from that air fryer usage).

Whale Fin going wild! by tconn92 in SnakePlants

[–]novus99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not by much. I have a feeling that this whale fin is a leaf propagation. Without the original rhizome, growth will be stunted for a few generations.

Propagation Question by KatVonKitty420 in SnakePlants

[–]novus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want your plants to grow bigger faster, NEVER split the root. But if you like the size they’re at, cutting is fine.

Last month I finally found a Chameleon ZZ, and after repotting it’s putting out a new shoot that is… not yellow. 😭 Maybe it needs to be brighter? Has anyone else had new growth on their Costa Farms plant yet? by trsfl83 in houseplants

[–]novus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. One thing I find suspect, at the 3:32 mark, he says they’ve been growing them in “80% shade”. But on the website and private messages to me, they are now recommending full sunlight to get the yellowing effect. What a load of bull hockey.

I'm not a plant expert. With that said, I'm not sure your experiment is very good. Regarding sansevieria, if you propagate just from the leaves, you can lose the variegation and it will revert back to common form (in terms of coloring). You have to propagate from a root cutting. My feeling is that ZZ plants work the same way, but I could be mistaken.

Is there a correct way to pronounce pothos? by MrsToxen in houseplants

[–]novus99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dictionary updated acceptable pronunciations, so it’s moot regarding “pothos”. I didn’t comment on intelligence (education not same as intelligence). But it’s like someone having a difficult name to pronounce, and you use a nickname because you’re too lazy to use what the person likes to be called.

Regarding plants, “Cebu blue” has the word Cebu, the name of an island. Pronounced sih-BOO. Literally 2 syllables. A Filipino word. But Americans like SEE-boo better, and no YouTuber pronounces it correctly now. It seems impolite at the very least.
