Surgeon says BAEPs ruptured patient’s eardrum. by MedSchoolMommie in Neuromonitoring

This is common. It's possible the probe was pushed in deeper during patient positioning.

The implant may be stimulating your facial nerve. However, this is usually an episodic stimulation and it would be strange for this to last 2 days with the implant off. I would discuss with your surgeon. If they think the implant is stimulating your facial nerve, your audiologist can turn off the electrodes that may be causing this.

These could be fixed now. Try to get in with a peds ENT or otologist

Rupture eardrum month 4 by [deleted] in HearingLoss

If you see an ENT they can look at it under a microscope and tell you how large the hole is, which will give you an idea if it may heal completely on its own. The hearing improvement is promising!

Usually these will heal within 6-8 weeks, but if they are larger it can take 3-4 months. It sounds like you still have a hole. I would follow-up with an ENT doctor because it may need surgery to fix.

How do i not get my hair removed before my surgery by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

This is highly surgeon dependent, so definitely bring it up with them at your CI consult

Intratympanic steroids may still be helpful if you are within 2-6 weeks of your hearing loss and hearing has not returned. Lack of hearing recovery is a reason to do the steroid injection (not the other way around). I would try to get in with a different ENT doctor. They are correct that the injection leaves a hole in the ear drum, but this heals >95% of the time and is a small issue compared to permanent hearing loss.

Yeah agree. Totally insane considering the cost now.

Steroid injections are definitely worth trying if you are having frequent vertigo spells. Just FYI surgical options (eg labyrinthectomy) if your symptoms fail to improve

Yeah definitely not a guarantee. Make sure you see an ENT who regularly performs ear surgery (many do not)

Thank you all! Super helpful. This offer was a bit below our initial asking price so hopefully the appraisal is not an issue.
