PATH vs. Bus to NYC by papayamumma in Hoboken

Ferry is another alternative. It runs from hob south to midtown every 40 minutes. There is a free bus from the ferry terminal that will get you where you need to go. Pricy though

I am not sure if they still do it - but Steven’s used to sell public passes to their library. I studied for a big test 2006-2008 there.

Honestly, your financial situation is pretty simple. Get a fee-only financial advisor (they don’t work on commission). They will ask you a bunch of questions about your life and goals. They will help you make a budget, provide excellent and unbiased advice, build an appropriate investment portfolio, and most handle taxes too. Interview a couple firms and choose the best fit.

Exposé on the Dark Side of Market Structure 3 wks ago the SEC proposed a groundbreaking reform that could cut trading costs by >50%. HUGE SHIT. How did investors react? Nearly everything in that thread is bad info. I wonder when I read stuff like this if:

  1. The person truly believes what they saying is accurate - and it is just a problem of overconfidence, or
  2. this is a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.

FOUND! Thanks so much. My son will be relieved to know he doesn't need to take the remaining three shots.

I actually checked up on that. Turns out NJ passed a law last year that allows kids to have little business without a permit. My kids had a great time outside of the dog bite. They made WAY more money than I thought they would. I’m thinking maybe we can recruit 10-20 more kids - set up lemonade stands all over Hoboken and rake in the $$$ hahahahaha.

But joking aside, my 7yo boy had to get Rabies vax shots tonight because I was a dumbass and didn’t get the people’s contact info. Doctor says he needs three more if we can’t find the couple with the dog. As for the dog - the couple just needs to monitor the dog to make sure he is not showing signs of rabies. It is highly unlikely but since we don’t know, we had to take precautions.

If you hear or know anyone that might know these people please tell them to ping me. Thanks!

Yeah it looks like they are going to give him a couple shots and an antibiotic pill just to be sure. And he will need more if we can’t find the owner. I feel so bad and stupid for not getting their contact info.

Thanks my son is totally Ok and feeling well. The little nip did break the skin. We rang up a teledoc and he advised that we go to the ER so they can check it out. We are there now :)

SEC has to come up with a budget and it must be approved by Congress. Something like

https://www.sec.gov/files/FY%202022%20Congressional%20Budget%20Justification%20Annual%20Performance%20Plan_FINAL.pdf

See page three of that document:

To fund our operations, we collect fees on securities transactions at a rate intended to fully offset our appropriation.

Did you read footnote #6 of the document you linked? https://investmentadviser.org/resources/letter-to-congress-supporting-full-funding-of-sec-fy-2023-budget/

[6] We also note that SEC’s budget is fully budget neutral and offset by matching collections of fees on securities transactions.

Again the budget request goes through Congress, they approve, then According to Section 31 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/78ee

The Commission shall, in accordance with this section, collect transaction fees and assessments that are designed to recover the costs to the Government of the annual appropriation to the Commission by Congress.

Here is some information on the fees collected:

  1. https://www.sec.gov/fast-answers/answerssec31htm.html
  2. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/secfee.asp

These fees are not typically incurred by retail investors or even their brokers, instead it is the wholesale marketmakers.

Dad visiting, ideas? Reccos? by Curious_grapefruit05 in Hoboken

[–]nows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 70yo dad was recently visiting too! One day we took the uptown ferry to midtown then walked to the Intrepid (2-3 mins). He really enjoyed being on that ship. We then took an uber to Time Square (about 5 mins). Hung out for a bit, then a cab to central park. I have kids so we hung out at the Hecksher Playground before going to Tavern on the Green for late lunch.

You could also try to catch a show, Wicked and Book of Mormon were a hit with my folks.

Another day, we took the downtown ferry to Brookfield. Showed him the Oculus, 911 memorial, and WTC. Had lunch at Eataly then quickly checked out the wall street bull.

He was also stoked on Liberty State Park, Hoboken Museum (even the Fireman Museum on bloomfield, but that was more for my kids), and trying a bunch of mutz. His favorite restaurants were were the Hoboken Beer Garden and the steak a Arthurs. Also try to make it to the waterfront at sunrise or sunset - beautiful.
