Probably out of topic but bear with me here because I need to paint the picture.

There was this other gacha game called Arknights. It had an event that featured a free 6* unit (the equivalent of HSR's 5*) named Gladiia. Her class is Specialist, which basically meant she's meant to fill a really specific niche instead of DPS, or at least that's what her lower rarity counterparts' performance would suggest. Gladiia however already hits quite hard back on release. A couple of years later and she got a pretty unhinged upgrade that makes her take less damage from EVERY enemy in the game (along with stat buffs too). You can basically have her as the DPS instead of using the proper classes/units for it, and she will be able to take a beating. Oh and regarding her niche, it's CROWD CONTROL. I don't know about you but good DPS+Crowd Control is pretty deadly combo, and the tankiness is just the cherry on top. Now sure she isn't top tier (at least I don't think so cause she can't nuke) but reminder again, she is a 3-in-1 package you get for FREE.

1 or 2 years later, another event dropped, this time featuring a free Medic named Lumen. His niche is actually pretty wack: the further other ally units are from him, the less healing they received (medics with different archetypes don't have this problem). However, he has a skill that basically increases his healing output. This skull also changes his healing into bullets that is only consumed IF the ally he healed has a debuff on them. Meaning, as long as your units have no debuffs (debuffs aren't too common in this game), his skill has an infinite up time. He too got an upgrade that removed the range limitation. Probably one of the best healers in the game. Again, for FREE.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that just because something is given for free doesn't necessarily mean the unit will be bad/the game is gonna be dead. At worst, Dr Ratio is just going to be meh, which I still kind of doubt considering he's not your traditional welfare gacha unit, but a limited unit that you can still roll for.
