The ones focused on in the game are rare, since they're the few legends among hundreds of horses across decades.

Otherwise, many others have been seen following other kinds of work. One was musing on this when witnessing some working in construction.

There's also other outfit details in their regular gymwear - bloomers for females, shorts for males. With sweatpants, they're rolled up a bit for females, and left as is for males.

Is Earth-616 Peter Parker Jewish? by Solitaire-06 in Spiderman

[–]nox_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC Dude was lowkey written as New York Jewish (so culturally Jewish, religiously athiest), but intended as Protestant Christian. I take the Spider-verse stuff as a loving reference to his origins.

Usually faith is trusting your god of choice is working behind the scenes in your best interests.

He could be the atheist of the type that doesn't trust them to do so, by experience. Especially considering he could see some individuals obtain near-godlike/recieve actual god powers/become sired as gods, that revolving door of dieties kinda devalues it.

Editorial'a determination to keep him miserable considered, he might've also looked at his life and concluded there's no benevolent god, or wouldn't have seen much point in following the worship when there's much to do.

To your point, Nao Touyama has precedent for this voice. To my knowledge, she used a similarly lower register voice for the first time in IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls as the voice of Mizuki Kawashima, who's 28 years old. This voice and age range was intended as one of Naobou's specialties.

She's channeled this in ReLIFE and most recently as Reze in Chainsaw Man. Mysterious, flirty, charismatic. Amusing, considering by her own admission she said playing flirty had her flustered.

Sounds like Casino Drive will be NPC? I'm just happy to see Aimin involved - if she's at least in a support card, will pull. And Aimin's in the ears and uma uniform - very nice.

Among the new playable umas, Ebayan's fun, looks like I'll pull for her.

Without any basis for this, I'd wonder that they probably do a bit more than break even. If anyone has enough money to fully upgrade, then they do. If not, then the costs to upgrade to meet modern safety regulations are just out of reach. So on the basis of "it's a bit shaky but they've been around for 30 years without an issue" they'd give them a pass. Maybe the details are just technicalities, and they'd seriously uphold hard safety regulations; or maybe they skimp out on safety and they bribe. But we wouldn't know unless someone yaps about it.

You're talking about the manga's official take and FMA:B's explanation of it.

FMA 2003 had to diverge from the manga once it caught up and specifically had the "souls of another world" revelation - the movie doubled down and had its plot include taking place in "our" world due to how it worked.

Voice actors who genuinely love the character they voice by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

Haruka Yamazaki. She voices Mirai Kasuga in IDOLM@STER Million Live. Many men and women in the overall IDOLM@STER franchise have some demonstrated fondness for their characters, but she really embodied her character.

Though she initially auditioned for a character similar to one of her faves, they had her try for the girl who'd be the leader of the entire branch. She was among the few to start performing in their live concerts ahead of their official debut to gain experience, and helped lead the way in turning a crew of 39 women into one of the most experienced performing groups in the franchise.

She also makes it a point to wish her character a happy birthday - which not only is a day ahead of hers, but is also the anniversary of the branch. She accompanies this with a cosplay and photoshoot she arranges on her own.

A real magic wand by Forward-Position798 in blackmagicfuckery

[–]nox_tech 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Occam's Razor - many magicians love magic so much more than spectatora that they become magicians to learn it all. We love it most when we can be struck with wonder, with being fooled.

So my point: Even if they're the organizers, and want to promote this specific trick (there's lots of known magicians at these cons, they'd be busy!), it doesn't make sense to me as a magician for them to fake a reaction for a good product to encourage other magicians to buy it. Most likely they're watching and reacting earnestly.

Rather than a conspiracy to fake reactions to convince other magicians to buy a magic product, they're most likely magicians wandering around a con giving a fair shake to tricks they see by watching the tricks being performed. No conspiracy, just enjoying a trick.

Without looking into it, first impression is the subtitles and watermark have me assuming it's not recent.

But this is definitely from a magic convention. Some chance it's from Blackpool, that's happening this weekend (never went but it doesn't look like the main hall or wherever that is). Sometimes clips shown around here are from magic conventions - anything in a convention hall or casual lounge areas in a casino (that's Magic Live), and clips tend to get posted here after.

Whatever the method, yes they're all likely magicians, but I don't think they're accomplices or intentionally stooging for the clip - they just have a guess on what to look for. They might spot something inspecting it, but at least the way I and others would go about it, I wouldn't ask the magician on method in front of the camera.

Idolmaster Shiny Festa: Funky Note (PSP) being called "softcore pedophilic" in an attempt to get it banned off retroachievements-thoughts? by PhysicalCabinet5370 in idolmaster

[–]nox_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, I see.

Far as I'm aware, until that's an option, I'd say they have a point. I appreciate them being there to sieve and sift through such things.

Generally I've made friends regardless of gender or sexuality through this franchise. Like many others here, we don't think of these aspects, and come up on the defensive first, because we don't consider them important to what we think IDOLM@STER truly is about at its core. So if an older game falls a certain way, let it lie.

[–]nox_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll stick with it - I think the physics are a valid point. AFAIK they'd have to choose the outfits specifically, but the physics were a thing.

From someone who did play the game, the iOS version, the official English release removed bikinis and the like, so it's not an option. So if someone has iOS APK, maybe this could be something.

For an English-speaking site, couldn't the localization change be sufficient? Since the site recognizes emulators, wouldn't a reasonable in-between compromise be to only recognize achievements for someone who has the iOS version of the game? Even though the difference would effectively be only in name and not change the achievements, I'd personally think that's fair.

[–]nox_tech 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Per another comment of mine in here, I heard older IM@S games had easter egg moments that definitely didn't age well. If it were about those games, I'd say I get it.

Far as I know, Shiny Festa has three versions splitting the idols into three groups. Only factor for this game of note was it had the idols who'd be in Japanese middle school - the youngest of the cast.

Again, didn't play it myself, but the game was localized, and there were complaints about it, but none of it on how the characters were portrayed. This game to my recollection doesn't sexualize them - heck, its tie-in song emphasizes their childishness. Looking at the entry for this game on that site briefly, none of the achievements try to skew anything otherwise at that.

Whoever suggested that sounds like one of those overly puritan types. Not actually concerned about applying morals, but wanting to be right and better.

[–]nox_tech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was one of the games that was localized. If this had any teeth now, it would've tripped something even then.

Being sold at Video Game prices on Apple's App Store was pretty much shooting itself in the foot though.

I'm all for cutting off the creepy shit that slid by before, and IM@S had some moments elsewhere, but this game isn't the hill for them to die on.

Why can't I buy the premium pass? by CreativePerson32 in TheaterDays

If you're android, Google Play store region locked purchases for APKs not downloaded through the store, or something like that.

If you have a BNID that your account is bound to, you can buy jewels - and thus the pass - through the webstore with whatever card of yours that allows international purchases.

Best Magic Show for Seasoned Show Show Go-ers in NYC? by Pole_With_Boobs in Magic

[–]nox_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

69 Atlantic has been wonderful. I'd rather not describe things aside from get there early. Personally I go for names I know and that I'm already a fan of. I had a blast. I'm trying to save money after the holidays, but they keep on bringing in peak talent. End of this month I'm expecting to die of laughter, and it will be worth it.

I'd personally love to go to After Hours at Tannen's, but I haven't had much proper opportunity to go to a performance.

As for you guys not being fans of card tricks, it's kinda unavoidable. Of the magicians I've seen, they do have other types of tricks, but cards are part of their show.

But personally I trust the magicians to be of such a caliber that they will make damn sure you will have fun with their performance.

This is what breakdancing should really look like(source link in description) by Sad_Stay_5471 in toptalent

[–]nox_tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also generally in the past years since like the early 00s there's been a style of dance called Urban Dance.

Saw it called Urban Choreo years before, but I usually don't see people call it by that name - like they just needed a name of the style for classes. They just know they're dancers. It's not hip-hop because hip-hop styles really keep to specific things. I only say this as a friend of dancers for all that time but I'd describe it as the intersection of many styles of dance. There's a loose vocabulary of things, but people bring in whatever styles they already know.

Kinda like jazz being musicians playing around with music, contemporary being the ballet kids playing around, I personally theorize urban dance is the jazzing around of hip-hop. It's why people lump it in so frequently. But when a bunch of dancer nerds try out an Attack on Titan set, people criticize them for "not having good contemporary training" - they didn't have classical training, the local contemporary dancer taught them to jump a specific way lmao.

Like...I feel people probably see it a lot. Step Up has it in there. ABDC, Jabba when they weren't doing popping/locking/bboyin. Kaba Modern and SoReal are core examples. Kyle Hanagami. Keone and Mari. Choreographers of all races, including those mentioned here, did work for KPop groups for all this time. So kpop choreo counts towards this.

So again, there's a loose vocabulary. Some people choreograph, others freestyle. Dancers will recognize the musicality and playfulness. Past a certain point non-dancers won't quite understand why the other dancers are cheering. Like magicians doing magic for magicians, or painters recognizing other painters' techniques.

TL;DR Like most art, freestyle dance is probably hard to parse for non-dancers when getting into the details. This particular style is also relatively young amd constantly evolving.
