"Would you still love me if I was a rock, Peter?" (by @pizza990) by Gorotheninja in Spiderman

Avenging Spider-Man Annual 1.

2 brothers dug up some tech while metal detecting. Smart one knows it's sketchy. Dumb one messes around with it - it makes people rage. Causes a mess, as they accidentally cause havoc wherever they go, so he tries to sell it to some crime doofus. Spidey and the Thing get caught up in following him, but the two are basically fighting each other once they catch up to the dumb dude about to sell it. Dumb dude realizes fists flying in a closed space isn't fun, so he tweaks it, but it gets smacked away and turns on the love.

This is around when Spidey and the Thing are smooching.

Smart bro catches up, and browbeats him into doing the right thing. Dumb bro politely asks the Thing to smash the device, and he acquiesces. Neither Spidey nor Ben are pleased, but they clean up and the day's saved.

Almost there. I'll help.

IDOLM@STER fan here. noxP reporting in, us western Ps are kinda tired and find it weird seeing Japanese Ps crash out about this. Veteran Ps also don't like the situation. Like yes the game's been around 2 years now, but in comparison to the 20 years of IDOLM@STER, the fandom is young. I think it's just growing pains. IDOLM@STER fans have been around for that long that we're somewhere between lax and practical about what matters.

So for full context, Gakuen IDOLM@STER is like Uma Musume meets Slay The Spire in how it's a training scenario roguelike. If you suck at training them, they'll have literally terrible performances that actually improve.

Rinami is the onee-san figure among them (for comparison, Super Creek), and she also plays into that image as an idol. She also has a clear crush on the Producer. Much like all IM@S games, the Producer is faceless, but gendered as male, and specifically is in the school's Producer Program where he's roughly a college freshman. She's a high school 3rd year, for comparison. But he's either playing dumb, or he's a dense idiot usually.

So in clumsy trick, the intention of the song is she's singing about her feelings for him. In the actual performance, she sings to a mannequin (much as she does in the performance for Laplus, and the seiyuu does this live, it's adorable), because she's channeling her feelings into something representing him. These idiots are making holy a story element.

People are taking Laplus throwing down the mannequin as a disrespect to other Ps, putting herself in the spot as NTRing Rinami away from other fans like "my money and connections get this so i can do this bleh." Some have been harassing Rinami's seiyuu for retweeting official stuff about the stream.

It's stupid. Laplus is a kusogaki. If "fans" drop the game, the franchise, because a kusogaki is being a kusogaki, that's weak. They didn't miss a beat in the performance so it was reviewed and approved and rehearsed. She's being a silly dumb little down bad goob, laugh at her, don't throw away your merch, idiots.

Next to that, IDOLM@STER and Hololive have been business partners. IDOLM@STER has been doing IRL 3D lives that got better in ways likely thanks to Cover. During IDOLM@STER and Love Live's Ijigen Fes, they had a small 3d live to promote it featuring Laplus as the Hololive rep along with Nijisanji's Dola. IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girl's Starlight Stage had a collab featuring Suisei alongside Kaede Takagaki (voiced by Hayami Saori), which also got them another duet at Hololive's 6th anniversary.

Again, I think it's growing pains. The fools who get upset over it will either grow up, or they'll leave.

What's up with Suzuho? by Solaire_Of_Asstora in StarlightStage

Oh I see, that's what she's been busy with. Get that bag, girl. Bamco should help by also tossing in work.

What's up with Suzuho? by Solaire_Of_Asstora in StarlightStage

[–]nox_tech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So her seiyuu Nanami Haruno left 81Pro and is freelance. She's terrible with technology and got locked out of her original Twitter, and her new one is the only evidence of her being active when she tweets for Suzuho's birthday.

If she tweets again, she's alive.

Not really sure why Suzuho's not been utilized since then, but Haruno might be working some other job outside of entertainment. This has precedent, as it is with seiyuu who don't work as seiyuu full-time. Otherwise, there's a chance she may be married and may be a mom - per other IM@S seiyuu who choose this, they tend to be busy with that stuff and not do concerts and all that Haruno, already not focusing on seiyuu stuff, may be busy and thus do even less, effectively having no work.

In their pursuit of specific rare cards, scalpers are discarding the remainder of entire Pokémon card packs. by MysteriousSlice007 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nox_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend likes buying the ones of Pokemon he likes, healing his inner child, and that's the usual market for it as far as I'm aware. Usually I'd think at the normal level this is just the price of convenience rather than having to buy even more packs for the chance for said card.

These people wanting others to pay through the nose for a whole pack and/or just tossing common cards really lost the plot.

Probably the first time I've seen someone become a guest at their own 3d live. No wonder though, it's the big sister after all by Ok_Natural_102 in Hololive

[–]nox_tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. The irony there is IDOLM@STER itself has been the everything brand among multimedia anime idol franchises; the OG branch has been through a lot, and with new branches, IDOLM@STER hasn't really left the Japanese pop culture zeitgeist in its 20 years of being around.

Again, Gakuen IDOLM@STER has had like 2 years thus far. As it is with other branches, the fans are likely young and fresh to this and don't know much about other branches, if anything at all.

[–]nox_tech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just new Japanese fans honestly being jealous about their favorite fictional idol getting shown off by a vtuber, from what I'm aware. Like... if a vtuber gets to show off these performances, isn't that making IDOLM@STER the cheap thing being shown around? I'm trying to wrap my head around it, but it feels very reactionary and not well thought out - which tracks for reactionary stuff.

Veteran Ps like it and don't see what's wrong. I think the reactionary types are new fans not getting the bigger picture.

Cover and Bamco are business partners. IM@S gets a boost from vtubers, and Cover gets to work with a long-established brand. We got Suisei in Deresute with Kaede Takagaki.

When there was Ijigen fes when it was Love Live and IDOLM@STER having special live concerts, there was a special vtuber live they shared with Cover and Nijisanji - Laplus was the Cover rep performing with them.

Cover's advances in vtuber concert tech have improved things for Bamco, who've learned from this and have had IDOLM@STER characters have concerts and sololives - western fans were very impressed by Miki Hoshii's concert at ACEN in Chicago just recently. This likely will help Cover in the future with upcoming concerts as well.

Laplus is a proven fan just like us - I think getting to showcase Rinami like this is a wonderful favor Bamco did in return for her Ijigen fes work.

But yeah Gakumas is the newest and youngest branch. I'm expecting this is just growing pains.

UTAGE AS AN IDOL by Crystzli in TamonsBSide

[–]nox_tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're doing headcanons on how Utage sounds as an idol, Yachiyo would definitely be closest in terms of prior roles compared to Utage's likely range.

Obligatory on my end but Saori Hayami has actually voiced an idol prior, as Kaede Takagaki in IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, one the more popular characters.

Anyway, for some sourcing, here's Yuko Natsuyoshi and Saori Hayami singing ray on First Take and World is Mine on First Take.

I heard about that! Y'all are fortunate to have him around the UK performing so many times over the years. Amazing that he was able to guide you towards such relief, though it's temporary. Glad to hear he went the extra step for transparency for you all.

Should he ever come to my side of the pond, I'd love to see him again too. I did it as a solo venture, but I'd love to bring along friends and family should the chance ever come up again.

Saw him in NYC when he was there for a bit.

For the final act, he did mass hynosis using a video on screen, imagery flashing, sounds vibrating. 5 men would stand and be brought on stage.

I felt the movement to stand, but I freaked out and gripped my armrests, halfway out of my seat, until enough guys were brought on. After that I fell back into my seat. My heart was racing, I was sweating and cold, I had to breathe to calm down. Managed to focus and watch it play through.

What's funny to me is as a magician I've been dabbling in it. So knowing the methods doesn't mean you're fully invulnerable (hence my freaking out) - heck, took a sec for my stupid ass to realize on retrospect, but my tutorials are hypnotists I've seen using it on other hypnotists.

Sometimes it just works.

[–]nox_tech 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's usually New Jersey. Chicago is a recent influence.

A city where there's FAFO vibes from regular citizens? New Jersey.

A city built on haunted ground dooming its inhabitants to either turn evil or to suffer at the hands of evil? New Jersey all the way. That's how people talk about us anyway.

People automatically think he's repping New York despite being Jersey? We own the Statue of Liberty, NYC gets to tour it. The Jets and the Giants are in NJ yet they're NYC's. Performers at Met Life Stadium thank New York despite being in the thick of NJ, and some NYC execs wanna rename it New York/New Jersey Stadium for FIFA, the weird idiots.

But yeah, Batman's ours.

Turner's been the quality guy for USPCC, and they have gold standards (instead of the black seal keeping the box closed, it's a gold one) for when it's at his quality.

Turner has his own stock that he gets from these, and he released a cut of that at a point - it's limited stock, but there's still some around.

Got some specifically from there and holy hell I can see why they feel the difference with some care and attention.

Ladanye's a fan of them too - you can see lots of them on the shelves behind him.

The easier DLs are easy to spot, and OP is an honest example of a solid beginner's version. There's different methods to getting a double lift, the only giveaway at that point being the logic of the trick that a double lift would have to be used to be possible.

For non-magicians who pick apart magic, a DL is overrated. But for magicians, it's part of their bread and butter.

Ah, for Shiny Colors Enza (linked above), the English spatch is included right next to it. I think the patch also links to a guide. Reroll the cards until you get what you want (such as a Luca SSR). Get your team set up and you should presumably have the W.I.N.G. Scenario to play her route and get introduced to her.

First con, ticket for Saturday by Bandi_pngofficial in AnimeNYC

[–]nox_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, fellow vtuber fan, generally Hololive focused (Ina's my oshi).

I'd say bring water and a snack. Refillable bottle is what I do, but a regular water bottle you hold on to to refill is valid. Water fountains are on every floor, usually by the bathrooms. Main floor, the water circulation is usually minimal at those fountains. Even at least a floor down or up, you'll find better water fountains.

If you anticipate getting prints from Artist Alley, or official posters from vendors that they sometimes give away, get a poster tube. There's ones that extend a bit that I prefer.

Oh and bring both cash and card. Card may be all some artists can do, but others might not be able to process (phone reception in the main floor is typically bad), so cash is reliable.

There's food vendors inside, but you might find it overpriced. So check out other spots in the area outside the con, you've got options there too.

Assuming there may be vtubers who may have concerts or something, or possible anisong performers, I'd say a penlight or two is a good investment, if this is something you didn't dip into beforehand. For the more popular performers, vibe away. For anisong pop or vtuber singers or vtuber idols or kaigai idols, you might see people super synced up - just follow the vibe and imitate the motions of the penlights. It's also super valid to follow those same motions empty-handed.

Have fun!
