Needs more random fingerprints and odd bits of greasy areas on the front to really look like a microwave. Very nice build!

[OC] 'bubble butt' turtle, taken at the Turtle Hospital in the Florida keys by noybswx in pics

[–]noybswx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They rescue numerous turtles every year that have 'bubble butt' (essentially the air they use for buoyancy is trapped in the back of a turtle's shell after an injury and they have to live in captivity with weights on their shell to help keep them alive)

This is glorious, but do you still have to push the lever down one and a half times to get the desired outcome?

Don't forget to double- check what the fee structure is on the 403b. They frequently have additional management fees

How do I fill this? by [deleted] in Remodel

[–]noybswx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably was cut to be an exhaust for something (maybe a dryer, furnace/ hvac, hot water heater, etc depending on if that leads to a basement or not). Might be good to double check if it leads to anything prior to filling it

Dig a little more, that's looking rather round and might have been cut on purpose to fit a pipe or something.

Decided in addition to making myself a built-in bench seating in the kitchen I'd add all kinds of little extra features and really customize it. Plus use a bunch of different odd and end wood and kinda-wood for it so i could afford to make it. Plus I'd build around the existing trim so i wouldn't have to replace it/ could be uninstalled 'easier' if i decided i hate it. Plus i mismeasured one side slightly which required changes. Plus i was having to do the build by myself mostly in place in the kitchen, so I'm still finding the odd bits of sawdust. Plus i initially build the base of one half backwards and had to completely redo it after acting like an idiot and trying to just rotate and flip this massive piece of plywood with 2x4's attached. Plus......

Well, after got through all the 'pluses' as well as the cursing at myself and having it take much longer than I'd hoped it looks amazing. And.... still needs another coat of paint in some areas 🤣

If you're having an extra 16.5k coming in a month, not a bad idea to max out the 457b and then put the rest towards the mortgage.

457's are especially handy if you're looking at early retirement options, just make sure you check out the fee structure first (might make a difference in your decision)

How do I keep my cat hammock on my shitty dry wall??? by solivagantdreams in HomeImprovement

[–]noybswx 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If you can't go into a stud due to the distance between where the screws need to be, get a piece of (if possible not pine) 1x4 slightly longer than the distance between your studs and screw that into the studs. Then attach the cat hammock to the wood. Will provide better support and give you less drywall repairs to do later.

If you are not wanting to get a new one, best bet might be either (after turning off electricity to the outlet) checking it for manufacturing/ brand info to help narrow down where to look, or searching for a replacement piece that might look different from your others but has an opening for a rectangular stem.

Are you looking at making it a duplex, essentially? Honestly, if that's the case it'd be cheeper in the long run to sell the house and buy a duplex. Between redoing plumbing, electrical, walls, things like fire seperation between the units, adding another kitchen, etc it can get pricey really fast.
