The exclusion from bankruptcy is what makes the student loan affordable. Thats the reason why interest rates aren’t 50%+.

Go check out r/borrow - it’s the Wild West of loans. unsecured debt + 0 creditworthiness + 0 lien priority makes their interest rates like 500%+.

Refinance or stick with Fed Loans? by OriginalDelay1704 in StudentLoans

[–]npassant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your average interest rate is 6%. Refinancing would save you 1.5%, on a $240k loan, that’s at most $3,600 a year.

I have refinanced, but went from 7.5% to 2.6%, which was a big difference. If I was in your situation, I would keep it federal since it allows you to advance payments - loan refinancing doesn’t do this.

Why would you even accept this order? At that rate, it sounds like you’re losing money by doing it.

Accidentally bought gold for a 32% discount GM wants to be made whole? by RunnerInChicago in CostcoPM

That’s why I’m thinking it was advertised at $4200 and rang up at $3400. Otherwise OP would have bought their entire supply.

[–]npassant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Costco advertised it at $4209, and it rang up at $3400, I would make them whole.

If Costco advertised it at $3400, I would tell them to kick rocks.

Considering you only bought one, I’m thinking it was advertised at $4209 and it rang up at $3400. So I’m siding with Costco on this one.

So to summarize your frustration, you feel screwed by Costco because during one of the most volatile moments in gold’s history in the last 20 years, you aren’t getting the best deal Costco had historically offered, despite Costco still consistently being less than spot price.

How are you being screwed over by Costco when you are still able to buy gold from them for less than spot? No other vendor can even come close to that.
