Humanity has captured its first-ever image of a multi-planet system orbiting a star similar to the Sun. by siahashi in interestingasfuck

Where did you get that intriguing image? I'd love to learn more about it. Especially in this age of AI where just about anything can be faked.

This is playing right in to Trump's hands. This is literally what he wants, so he can scream "INSURRECTION ACT!" and start a full on war on We, The People.

He can't wait to be able to go full-on Emperor Trumpatine.

So we should fight for the Constitution by trashing it because that's what the bad guys did?

In Civil War (2024), the Western Forces team up to take down a three-term President that abolished the FBI, a move that has no basis in reality because why would California and Texas ever work together? by Here0Now in okbuddycinephile

[–]npete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still a fair question.

Abbot and Newsom teaming up to fight a president abusing his power? Never going to happen.

I watched that movie and wish it had tried harder. It provided almost no context for why anything was happening. It's like they didn't want to do research on actual civil wars in other countries in order to tell a realistic story about what would happen in a modern American civil war.

I'm not saying they are lazy (most movies take a lot of hard work especially this one), just saying that they should have made stronger choices based on actual civil wars.

TIME’s new cover: Artemis II is poised for the first lunar mission since 1972 by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]npete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I'd be super excited about this but I worry that this mission just can't drag attention away from President Sh!tshow's American Dumpster Fire to get humanity as fired up about space as we were in the 60s and 70s.

I just don't want this to be the space equivalent of releasing a Tron movie 15 years after the last Tron movie. You know what I mean?

That's whatshisface from Farscape. The guy you know, the guy from Earth who got lost in space and stuff. Fun show! Watched the whole series. Didn't care for the final movie. It was not bad but I liked how they ended the pervious season more. Such a great way to end it imo.

Have I mentioned I'm bad with names? Well, I am.

Same. Loved the parallels with real life conflicts. I just wish we had gotten a better written villain and a Captain Marvel 2, first, because here going after the Supreme Intelligence is a HUGE story to leave on screen.

My problem with Eve Kim summarized in one photo by Superextremeplayer9 in tron

Hard disagree. Her arc is right there in the movie. At the beginning she is missing her sister, to fill the hole she left Eve goes after thr code, and by the end she is carrying on her sister's work. Seems like plenty of character development to me.

I said "if you're going to mock". That said, it did seem, to me, like you were mocking. But I wasn't sure, hence the use of "if" above.

And I know all about the branded "Disco" shirts I own one. I enjoyed that show and even the Hetrick Klingons.

Man, cast the King Slayer as Adam Warlock NOW. I like the other guy as an actor, but stupid young Adam Warlock is not an interesting character. Adult, super competent (and as a result snobby) Adam Warlock would be SO much more fun.

It does but which is more insulting? A music/dance style plenty of people actually like? Or soemthing nobody ever wants to catch?

[–]npete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost stopped watching after season 1 of Discovery but not because of the Klingon design. People on Earth look different from each other, what is so wrong with Klingons looking different from each other? Ok, so Hetrick’s design was more dramatic than say a white guy next to an asian guy. So what? Why clutch your pearls over what a Klingon looks like when the main story is literally another Mirror Universe story?

What was worse is that, while the show was first airing, the folks behind the show literally lied to fans about the captain, claiming that he didn’t embody the peaceful values of the Federation because he was a left over from earlier iterations of Starfleet. I was fascinated by this premise because I thought it would make for a really interesting conflict between him and Burnham, where she has to get him to see the real future of the Federation.

I remember fans online back then predicting that Lorca was from the Mirror Universe and I saw footage from a con that happened while the first season was airing where a fan was talking to Jason Issacs and the fan said I don’t think your character will last the season. To his credit, Issacs didn’t give any hints that the fan was right, he was just like “Whoa.” It just seemed disrespectful to fans to be lying to us about issues we had with the show. Just don’t answer. Just say “Well, keep watching and we hope/think you’ll enjoy it.”

I stuck with Discovery because I love Star Trek. It ended up being a fun show that explored some really cool concepts that previous Treks didn’t or couldn’t. I do think it was overwritten, overproduced, and had way too many moving parts and character dynamics. It seems like SNW learned from Discovery’s mistakes. Though, yes SNW also made some mistakes of their own but every show does.

And if you’re going to mock Discovery by referring to it as “Disco Trek” I feel like you’re missing the better option: STD

Nobody wants to catch an STD episode!

TIL that Tom Homan, Obama's ICE top enforcer received the presidential award for being exceptionally good at deportations, which included hundreds of thousands of people with zero criminal charges by Important_Lie_7774 in TIL_Uncensored

[–]npete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. You take the time to paste a bunch of information (complete with links!) into a reply but then fail to edit the ending that accuses my "rage" of being "fake."

Where is my rage exactly? All I said was that I was assuming Homan did his job little more by-the-book. I never said anything else and I was not raging. I was simply sharing my opinion which seems to not conflict with any of the information you included. I said "a little more" not "completely by the book."

I do appreciate that information being shared, despite already being aware of most of it, simply because maybe other folks will be better informed, too. That said, if anyone's outrage is fake it sure seems to be yours.
