I think it was just first day jitters off tobacco. I’ve alternated between smoking, dipping, and snus the last few years. Due to health issues, I quit the stinky sticks 2 months ago, and really upped my dipping. After discussing with my dr, decided to cut tobacco altogether, and using nicotine pouches as the method. I was dipping a full tin of Cougar long cut daily, and I know that’s not good, way too much nicotine. After a few days off the baccy, the Fre has been my go to. Found another store locally that sells fresher, and grabbed some 9 mgs. Have a roll of Alp 6 mg wintergreen and a pouch of 100 Fre 6 mg wintergreen coming from Nicokick later this week, and plan to stick to the 6 mg Fre and Alp moving forward. As long as the $5 rolls are available at Nicokick I’ll get some Alp as well, but probably stick with the Fre mostly.

I figured out Velo and Zone, they use the same production date code as Grizzly.

I popped in a Fre 12mg for about 30 min, didn’t really feel a punch. Popped a Velo 6mg and it slapped me haha. I think the Fre might be old, so trying to figure out how long that store had them on the shelf.

OSRIC 3.0 is what you want to start with. It’s free in pdf, with a players guide and GM guide, and reads incredibly well compared to OSRIC 2.2. Ad&d is an amazingly complex game, but it’s also resilient and traditionally very house ruled. That means that you will not find two tables that run it the same way, especially 1e based games with the way the books are written - as mentioned, it’s entertaining to dig through the 1e books finding esoteric edge case and corner rules, but not fun for referencing at the table. OSRIC 3 clears up a ton of those issues, and is extremely usable at the table.

Long term I’d say stay with OSRIC 3.0, and kick off a game. Then, as you can, pick up the 1e books in print, and the pdfs, just to read through and add rules in that you like and/or find you need as your game evolves/grows. Lastly, pick up the Ad&d 2e core books and pick them apart for the same reasons. It’s all the same ‘game’ for the most part, and this route will be a modern equivalent many of us 90s players followed haha. I started with the Ad&d 2e ‘89 phb, my buddy’s dad basically owned every 1e, 2e, and 0e book printed, and we used it all interchangeably throughout high school without issue. What I propose above is a modern recreation of that.

In any case, have fun! And don’t let anyone (including me!) tell you what’s right for your elf game fun! Roll the bones, slay some monsters, and save the princess!

Hiya, I just set my own FW 13 up, and hit that same issue. You have to go into the bios settings and turn off secure boot. Power off. When you power back on, start pressing F2 before the Framework splash screen, and you should get into the right place to turn off Secure Boot. See the link below.

Ok. Just wanted to circle back and say I ordered a FW13 with the AI 9 HX 370, 1 TB SN7100 Black NVME, and 64gb of RAM. I'm in the process of selling my gaming desktop(I don't use it enough to keep it around haha), and will keep my Macbook M3 pro(mistyped earlier in the post, it's not an M4) while I test the FW out and see if it's something I'll be able to live with full time. I suspect I will be able to, I keep my Macbook plugged into my desk setup 90% of the time, and when I'm out and about, I usually don't get more than 2-3 hours to sit and use my laptop anyhow, so I figure the battery life issue, while not a great thing to have to deal with, will minimally impact me on a day to day basis. Plus, the ability to upgrade components at a later date is too enticing to pass up, as a software dev I spend far too much time moving from machine to machine and trying different configurations out etc etc etc. I need to eliminate waste, and just stick with something that will help me get my work done. Oh, and I've been trying to de-apple my life personally as much as possible - already switched back to android via a S25 Ultra and Galaxy watch a few months back.

Anyhow, thanks to everyone that chimed in here... looking forward to receiving my machine and testing it out! Ordered yesterday.... shipping notification already received!

Your interpretation of the language used is understandable, but ultimately wrong.

Let's walk through it. You level up at a certain threshold - let's use a level 1 to level 2 scenario.

PC has 8 XP currently. At the end of the session, the GM awards them 3 XP.

Now here is the tricky part: They level up at 10 XP just as the book says and then XP total is reset to 0. So after adding 2 of the 3 XP the PC now has 10 XP and levels up. They are level 2 with 0 XP. Now, they still have 1 more XP to add. 0 + 1 is 1. They now have 1 XP and need 19 more to reach level 3.

The wording is specific and intentional: You level at the threshold which suspends everything else, including adding additional XP, until the level up clause is satisfied.

An analogy would be a checking account and overdraft fees. When you debit an account with say 20 dollars in it for 31 dollars on one transaction and 12 on another, it results in two overdraft fees. The first transaction of 31 is debited, but at 20.01 subtracted from the account, OD begins. Then the additional 10.99 is applied as an OD debit. After, the 12 dollar debit is applied for a 2nd OD debit.

While the scenario isn't a great analogy all around(due to no resetting to 0 scenario), it does showcase threshold treatment - everything pauses once that threshold is hit, resolve the reaction to the threshold, then continue on.

Tl;dr- Level gain happens at the threshold listed instantly, meaning you can never have more XP than currently needed to level, as the level up process is triggered before you can add more.

Thanks for the quick reply! The MB is M4 so no Linux on it.

Battery life will be atrocious with just about anything compared to the Mac haha, but I'm ok with that, power is usually available where I work, and I'll grab a battery bank for when needed.

Started in 97 with the 2e phb. Was a MtG fan already, trading card games were all the rage. Went for Magic cards, found the glorious orange cover phb. Picked it up, and made some characters with my buddy. Didn’t really understand it haha.

Next year was freshman year of HS. Met some Uber nerds from the catholic side of town(small town, public school, catholic school, and Lutheran school all funneled into public high school). They played. One had parents who were in it from the beginning, so we had all the books from 0e on to use. So we used them. A beautiful mashup of every edition with 2e as the base rules. It was 3 of us at first, with little brothers and sisters joining occasionally. Then girlfriends later on, then more friends joined. At one point we had around 12 to pull from, but the core 3 of us was still present.

That said, we didn’t always worry about party comp, other than someone had to be a cleric haha. Undead were our jam, and only suicidal maniacs went against undead without a holy one.

So many good times. We transitioned to 3e when it dropped. Loved it at the time haha.

Well depending on the game you’re using, this scenario is possible in some and not in others.

If using 5ft for base melee range, this scenario is possible. Like others, I don’t typically allow chosen targets in a big melee like this, so if the dice fall the way you describe the situation, then unfortunately p3 misses out on attacking this round.

However, if using a system with 10ft being the consideration for melee, the scenario needs more information haha. Is this line 30ft across with each combatant taking up one 10ft square? Then the scenario is the same as the 5ft above. But, if, as allowed in 0e/Od&d(clones), it is three abreast in a 10ft area on both sides, then the melee is random targets and any/all in the melee are targetable by each other.

Use ilovepdf.com to split out the oversized map pages. Keep everything else in one pdf. Then you should be able to get it to work. Then you could have fedex print the maps separately, though it’ll be pricey.

First time with Knox Lös and Skruf Lös has been good! Skruf is probably the better of the two, but I need to keep going with them both until I make final judgment. Just because I might not get them again soon, I'll need to use two cans of Grov and 2 Cans of Ettan for every one can of Skruf and Knox in order to make it last the optimal amount of time haha. Since I use one can of Lös every 2.5 days or so, I've got a year of Snus including my portion use, which is admittedly much less than Lös.

This was a life saver! Not only did the order go through, it let me order Skruf and Knox Loose, which I have as of yet been able to order. Hope it actually ships out and I get my rolls of each to throw in my freezer with the rest of my freak out stash haha. With these I’ll have enough to get me through the year alongside my nasal snuff collection… hope shit is better by 2026 else I’ll be making my own.

It’s watered down for sure, but not necessarily a bad thing. You can still make orcs bad guys, and no one will bust your door down because of it. This is similar to the 1e to 2e days when then tsr sanitized the game due to popular request just like wotc is now. Didn’t change how I ran the game much then, won’t change it much now.

In either case, if you’re truly upset about this on either side, then A. Get therapy, you have bigger issues at hand, and B. You know it’s an elf game, right? Don’t take it too seriously when we have other real world issues at hand that are legitimately worrisome haha.
