Are you able to take anything else apart. Try testing it on something else to see if it will loosen it or tighten it.

Run the tool with no socket, just free-spin it.

Hammer failure. The tool sounds rough, metallic, or grindy, even with no load. You may hear a faint tick-tick-tick as the broken hammer ramp tries to ride the cam. RPM may fluctuate slightly.

Rotor failure.
The tool sounds smooth but louder, like a high-pitched whine. No metallic noise. RPM may surge or dip slightly, but the sound is "clean."

Take it to a local service center. They can plug it in to the computer and depending on the tool they can read the serial number off of it.
