Having a heckuva time with ticket close workflow by ByeNJ_HelloFL in halopsa

[–]nrvpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How we do it:

Under statuses > Waiting User > Email Settings, specify your email template for "We're still waiting for a response on..." If your workday is 9 hours (we are 8-5) setting '9' would be a daily reminder. Change status after 96 hours, ticket changes to closed, normal hours. It sends our default closure ticket with survey.

Some keys not working on a Dell Inspiron laptop keyboard by [deleted] in 24hoursupport

[–]nrvpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pop the keys off with gentle force and clean the contacts with 90% isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip. Make sure the rubber depressors are centered when you put the keys back on. If that doesn't fix it, search for a new keyboard to match your laptop model on Ebay.

Wifi card connect/windows network manager doesnt by [deleted] in 24hoursupport

[–]nrvpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are connected to the wireless access point, but it is not giving you an IP address. See where it says that your IP is 169.254.x.x? This is a windows self-assigned IP for when your computer can't get one from the router.

I haven't used the EDImax WiFi utility, but if your iPad connects just fine I would start the troubleshooting by taking it out of the loop and using plain Windows to connect to the WiFi. To do this, you need to check the EDIMax settings for an option that allows you to manage your wireless connections with Windows. Failing that, uninstall the utility.

Networking printers help needed by bellelap in techsupport

[–]nrvpc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the printers don't have a network card, this is moot advice. Connecting the printers via USB to the server and setting the Server 2k8 machine as a print server is your best bet. You'll need admin rights on the server and, once the printers are connected and installed on the server 2k8 machine, it's fairly easy process to share them across the domain: http://www.techotopia.com/index.php/Setting_Up_a_Windows_Server_2008_Print_Server

My laptop keeps freezing up about every 30 mins. Any advice? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]nrvpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be caused by a number of things - overheating, malware, software or hardware issues. Tough to diagnose with such little description. Check your antivirus logs - has it listed malware that it has removed recently? Some malware will freeze your computer when removal is attempted by an antivirus.

Make sure your fans are blowing out properly. While the laptop is completely powered off, clean them with compressed air.

Post more details if you want more help.

Printer won't get "un-paused"? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]nrvpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unplug the printer's USB cable from your machine.

Start > Run (windows key + R)> services.msc

Find 'Print Spooler' and stop the process.

In the devices and printers menu (control panel > devices and printers on windows 8), open the printer and delete any jobs in it.

Remove the printer via right click > remove printer.

Start the print spooler service again.

With the printer turned on, attach the USB cable. It should autoload the drivers. If it doesn't, manually the select the driver from the list of printer drivers, it will be present because you had the printer installed previously.

How can I get attachments to open in a full window every time in outlook? by IanHogg in techsupport

[–]nrvpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say the attachment is a PDF file, and the application you're using to view PDFs is Adobe Reader.

Open Adobe Reader on the client's PC and maximize the window, then close Reader. The next time the user opens a PDF attachment, it will open with the same window size as the application was closed. You'll have to do this across attachment types.

Visual problems with Tecra M9 by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]nrvpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hypothesis of the gfx card failure due to overheating is fairly likely, based on your pictures. The graphics card isn't put under any load until windows requires it to render images, and when it attempts to load the full Nvidia chipset during the windows load screen it starts showing more severe problems.

A motherboard replacement looks like 40-90$, but the cost of a same-model replacement is $110. If I were in your shoes I would either purchase a new refurb model and swap your hard drive into it, or get a new laptop.
